Oz: The Great and Powerful - First Trailer

shagen454 says...

Exactly. Whenever I watch a Bergman on Hitchcock film the slow still shots are some times the most fantastical shots. People like Cronenberg knew when to use special effects to really capture the horror in perception changing & human body changing.

when i first came across this remastered series i remember it was a couple of dudes.
oh well.guess i remembered wrong.
thanks for the correction @Payback.

Oh, it's still awesome. I guess it WAS technically two dudes, by the way...

Under the direction of Star Trek producer David Rossi and long-time Star Trek technical consultant Mike Okuda, the visual and special effects were recreated to give Star Trek: The Original Series a more authentic feel and modern look. Special attention was given to such elements as the Enterprise, alien planets and their images depicted from space, planets seen from orbit, alien spacecraft, and technology such as computer readouts, viewscreen images, phaser beams, etc.

the trailer Disney should have used to market John Carter

It was advertised heavily on tv. The problem is the ad was garbage. No story elements, characters, or any dialogue at all were in it. It was just a collection of half second long action sequences stuck together telling you absolutely nothing about the movie other than that it has a decent special effects budget.

Ruin - Post-Apocalyptic Short CGI Film

Nice change of tone on videosift in the last few months I see. Interesting.

If there were a few more "sad" "negative nellis" that "feel inadequate" when faced with such talent, we would have been spared many stupid movies that started of as one nice special effect and had NOTHING ELSE to bring to the table.

Just imagine a world without G.I.Joe, Matrix (at least Nos. 2 and 3), Transformers 1-3, Avatar, Clash Of The Titans, etc. etc. etc..a happier, saner place I'm sure.

And because its only irony and because I am such a nit-picker, I'm not going to activate the "sarcasm" flag.

Guy Pearce is the best. Otherwise, I have no idea what most of you people are on about. Is this some kind of cult book being made into a film, that has you guys shitting all over something that looks pretty good?

I agree. I think this was a very well delivered monologue. I wouldn't call it hammy. I wouldn't say the special effects held it back. I'm intrigued about the story and the character.

Upvote this comment if you'd rather see a sequel to the 1981 film, done with 1981 special effects, and focusing more on story rather than how many mo-caps they can fit into one fight scene.

Final Destination 5 - Visual effects for the opening scene

The way they throw money at a greenscreen to avoid having to actually film stuff. I'm sure the animators are working very hard and are extremely good at what they do, but all impressiveness of a special effect is lost for me when it's computer rendered. They're over relying on green screening to such a ridiculous degree, even in areas where it's completely unnecessary, that it totally breaks my immersion.
Also, I'm pretty sure they could do this scene with practical effects if they at all cared about the art of film making. The physical restrictions of actors and effects were one of the reasons film makers had to be innventive, which did lead to interestingly shot scenes.

I'm sure they'd do it all practically if it were possible, affordable and safe. Not much of this scene is.

Too Much Wind isn't Good: Wind turbine catches fire

radx says...

Look at this clip. The turbine head shouldn't pivot freely on its axis, and if the blades were feathered and locked, yet still spinning, it ought to cause a fuckload of friction and stress on the brakes and the gearbox, doesn't it?

The flaming mixture of oil and lubricant makes for nice special effects though.
