We Believe: The Best Men Can Be - Gillette Ad
I have strong feelings on how people should treat each other. The blast of comments(some your own included) declaring that it's absurd for people to dislike the profiling of most men as violent and sexually abusive, or making excuses for same, are what I am calling out for the sexism that it is.
As for joining the chorus, that's kind of exactly the opposite of what I've been trying to communicate. Picking teams and setting yourself on team man/woman or white/black or straight/gay or dem/rep is one of the awful trends in society today. I want to get away from that thank you very much. I don't have the attributation for the quote but I'd pass you this as advice:
"When you find yourself on the side of the majority, it is time to pause and reflect"
For strikeout you can use the html 'strike' tag, never knew before this thread or not if it worked on the sift either.
I don't think this ad IS a big yawn for you. It looks to me like you have some pretty passionate feelings about it. That's a good thing. But I also think your passion would be better spent and be more effective in accomplishing your goal if it was harnessed and controlled.
A lot of the work has already been done for you. All you have to do is join the chorus. I think you'll come to find that you have some very powerful people on your side.
BTW, how do you do that strikethrough thing in your text?

Speech Pathologist in Texas Fired for Refusing Israel Oath
The difference is whether they are punching up or down, or at least should be, even if local laws don't reflect it.
Does Israel need defending? Are trans people, gay people, etc, discriminated against routinely? Then it is arguable that it is the employer's duty to his workplace environment to rid themselves of forces hostile to gender and racial diversity.
So if the person above had been actively maligning Jews, for example, it would of course be a fireable offence, but requiring them to sign some sort of pro-Israeli document is demeaning, even if you are not particularly anti-Israel or anti-Judaism.
Trump Ad: Immigrants are Murderers and Dems are Complicit
You need them, they could help you learn English so you would look less like a Russian troll.
You could also use help with American history, a subject 100% of immigrant citizens know better than you, they had to pass a civics test as part of citizenship, a test you would fail miserably....almost like you aren't even from America, comrade.
Don't ever....EVER...use "we" to describe American sentiment, you do not reflect us. Plenty of Americans do want to help desperate refugees, just not the party that drapes themselves in the flag and cross while denouncing all that those symbols stand for.
Trump is the one wasting our government dollars on photo opps at the border with no legitimate use....by which I mean the blatant ploy to "deploy" thousands of troops at the border a week before the election to intercept the rampaging brown invasion that he's convinced morons is coming.....maybe.....in a few months. What do you think it costs to deploy thousands of troops for nothing for 8+ weeks? Probably more than fully supporting every person in the caravan for years.
One single Trump trip to Maralago or another of his golf courses costs taxpayers at least as much (some costs are classified, so not included in the >$3 million average cost) as yearly resettlement costs for >2000 refugees, including their background checks, housing assistance, etc. He's taken 159 golf trips so far, you do the math and gasp.
*facepalm
Side note: it did not go unnoticed that your reply had nothing whatsoever to do with my comments, and didn't address a single point contained therein.
Does't matter if they all Mother Teresa ..
The USA is not obligated to take them in.
Go back home-- We don't want you. Go waist you own government dollars.
Awesome shiny costumes!
Could burn from those reflections.
What the F*ck happened to Hip-Hop?
Anything positive done by a black man in america becomes a threat to the established precedent and will be put down. The state of "hip hop" reflects the system it operates within.
AMA - a short film by Julie Gautier
I believe only the ascent is slow mo (around 5 min mark).
The rest just looks slow because it's under water and she's freediving (only slow movement to save air). The reflections give away the timing.
-scheherazade
I can't hold my breath in slow motion.
Very nice though.
Of Course I'm Trying To Indoctrinate You In My Beliefs
Fair point, and I would agree with you that if one of your core beliefs are pro-life/pro-choice, of course you want the law to reflect that because you care about the people affected by the law.
That said, it's hard to simultaneously urge the liberals need to stop tip-toeing AND fret that a right-leaning majority on the Supreme Court might overturn Roe vs. Wade. Not because you can't want to uphold Roe vs Wade, but because Roe vs. Wade has stood a long time under a left-leaning majority which tends to argue that the liberals haven't exactly been tip-toeing.
I just wish people would place live and let live much higher up in their value systems. I've got plenty of really strong beliefs that I don't believe should be enshrined into law. The reason being that merely not sharing those beliefs doesn't need to affect anybody else, so to each their own. I believe society is better if I try to convince others of most beliefs voluntarily and not through force of law.
He's clearly mad.... but he's not wrong.
Why WOULDN'T you want your most profound beliefs enshrined in law? Everyone wants that.
I believe that discrimination on the basis of gender, race, sexual orientation, etc is wrong and I want that in law. I believe women have a right to control their reproductive cycles and I want that in law.
His core concept isn't wrong, it's just the beliefs that he espouses are wrong. And yes, they're fucking WRONG. Not different, not a matter of personal belief, they're flat out wrong and should be consigned to the dustbin of history.
Liberals need to stop tip-toeing around the right and stand up for what they believe in.
Of Course I'm Trying To Indoctrinate You In My Beliefs
The establishment clause was put into the constitution because of the church of England. This is why many people fled from England to America, because of religious persecution. It was to prevent a state religion, and by religion we aren't talking about Christianity versus Islam, we are talking about different Christian denominations.
Look at what George Washington said in his inaugural address:
"Such being the impressions under which I have, in obedience to the public summons, repaired to the present station; it would be peculiarly improper to omit in this first official Act, my fervent supplications to that Almighty Being who rules over the Universe, who presides in the Councils of Nations, and whose providential aids can supply every human defect, that his benediction may consecrate to the liberties and happiness of the People of the United States, a Government instituted by themselves for these essential purposes: and may enable every instrument employed in its administration to execute with success, the functions allotted to his charge. In tendering this homage to the Great Author of every public and private good I assure myself that it expresses your sentiments not less than my own; nor those of my fellow-citizens at large, less than either. No People can be bound to acknowledge and adore the invisible hand, which conducts the Affairs of men more than the People of the United States. Every step, by which they have advanced to the character of an independent nation, seems to have been distinguished by some token of providential agency. And in the important revolution just accomplished in the system of their United Government, the tranquil deliberations and voluntary consent of so many distinct communities, from which the event has resulted, cannot be compared with the means by which most Governments have been established, without some return of pious gratitude along with an humble anticipation of the future blessings which the past seem to presage. These reflections, arising out of the present crisis, have forced themselves too strongly on my mind to be suppressed. You will join with me I trust in thinking, that there are none under the influence of which, the proceedings of a new and free Government can more auspiciously commence."
Christian Right = Daesh for fake Christians (fans of, but not students of Jesus)
America was founded on the notion that religious laws have no place in public government or law and religious freedom is a basic tenant of our system. That makes what this idiot advocates about as unAmerican as could be.
This is part of why the right defunds education....history doesn't support their claims or plans, so they believe it shouldn't be taught.
The Day Jesus Returns
Well, in the first few seconds, although this all sounds very poetic...
The moon does not "give light" it reflects light, so if there was an eclipse, then this would mean there would be no sun to reflect, so although partially true. these are both the same point.
And I can assure you the stars will not fall from the sky. You can tell this was written before we knew that stars were actually just distant suns. So written out of ignorance.
So this prophesy immediately looses credibility.
After that it just falls to creative writing all based on the natural occurrence of a solar eclipse. That's it. An eclipse. Someone in ancient times used a natural occurrence to evoke fear and sow seeds of of a story because people were uneducated and didn't know what it was.
Today we know what an eclipse is. We're educated, so why do people still fall for these stories. they're obviously written out of ignorance (unknowing) of what is now common knowledge.
@shinyblurry, I respect your personal religion. I endorse your need to believe in something to give you strength where you are weak. But educate yourself. Don't listen to this rhetoric and outdated nonsense. Be smart. I know you're an educated man. Don't hide behind this obvious and poorly written prose.
And definitely, don't sow this stuff to others. It just makes you look ignorant to educated people. You have a brain, and if you believe in a god, then you need to believe you were given a brain to use it. So do some thinking for yourself. You and your family will benefit from the use of a little intelligence.
I'm not saying you can't believe in your God. I'm just saying don't forsake intelligence. And if you can't engage in intelligent conversation, then don't preach using rhetoric created by people who where uneducated.
(EDIT: Sorry to be blunt. Sometimes we need blunt. I'm not trying to be mean. I've been learning that sometimes blunt is the only way to get through to stubborn people. I myself am stubborn - but smart enough to see, when pointed out, my errors in what I may think of this world - we are here to live and to learn, lets engage our brains).
IMPORTANT! YOU ARE BEING MANIPULATED!!!
wow! insightful! +5
what a pleasure to see that a television program is willing to spend so much time on sharing insightful comments and reflection on social media.
I am also impressed with the quality of the comments for this video here on sift.
Footage of arrest by police in Canadian convenience store
Keep in mind, this is Edmonton.
It is not reflective of the rest of Canada. They call Alberta the Texas of Canada for a reason.
Teacher Fed Up With Students Swearing, Stealing, And Destroy
@Mordhaus I agree with you, and I didn't mean to say that was the ONLY pinpoint that was worth noting. But as someone who graduated in 2002, I've seen a steady gradation of change over the past 16 years that can in a large part be traced back to those policy changes.
I'm also not blaming the textbook companies for being for-profit companies. But, much like healthcare in this country, education is something people NEED. It's not a luxury, it's a necessity. I'm of the opinion that it should be treated like the social service that it is and the blame rests with lawmakers that force schools into patronage of testing producers with little or no oversight written into the law.
On your 1-5 list:
1) That can be a difficult subject, you're oftentimes doubling the cost of wardrobes for poor families, and it's the kid who can only afford 1 uniform that's full of tatters that gets bullied anyway.
2) I'm not anti-standards, but the way that those standards are assessed are not reflected in the tests the students take. Moreover, VERY FEW jobs (if any) require a person to answer A B C D over and over as a way to make a living. In other words, answering multiple choice questions is not a skill most people need.
3) Yes. My average classroom size is 28. 50 minutes with 28 kids in a room, you do the math on the individualized attention they get.
4) I've seen some counties near my locale that have instituted a no cell phone ordinance, banning them from the campus. It's possible, but one needs the support of the community.
5) Send your kid where you want, but I don't think my tax dollars should go to pay for Johnny to go to religious institutions. It feels, in that circumstance, that the government is endorsing a particular religious viewpoint to do so.
New Rule: Trump Is Above the Law
A possible quote, what he could say, is not fake. That word doesn't mean "reflecting poorly on Trump" like the right seems to think it does.
YOU just assigned a fake quote to me....so you're saying you're a sad racist bigot? ;-)
Child molester is hardly reaching, the Republicans nominated a blatant one and supported him until the day he lost, saying even he was better than any Democrat. Democrats booted senators hour air honking boobs once, so as a metaphor, snow isn't pure enough to be accurate.
Yes, too many idiots believe Fox news is news, it's just not.
You are assigning a Fake Quote of racist nature-- So this makes you the bigot and racist. Sad.
The rest of your dribble is just that dribble .
Christians DON"T hate Democrats .. Nice fake news.
child molester ??? wow you are reaching .. Claiming What Democrats are pure as snow? You kidding me. You are a joke.
I do agree with you lack of education statement However If is from the Democrat control to dumb down/ liberalise our Nation.
Too many idiots believe Fox news? really? How many idiots watch CNN, MSNBC. CBS,ABC and late night? Way way way more. My guess is that you are one of those.
