The Day the Dinosaurs Died – Minute by Minute

shinyblurry says...

2 Peter 3:1-7 Beloved, I now write to you this second epistle (in both of which I stir up your pure minds by way of reminder), 2 that you may be mindful of the words which were spoken before by the holy prophets, and of the commandment of us, the apostles of the Lord and Savior, 3 knowing this first: that scoffers will come in the last days, walking according to their own lusts, 4 and saying, “Where is the promise of His coming? For since the fathers fell asleep, all things continue as they were from the beginning of creation.” 5 For this they willfully forget: that by the word of God the heavens were of old, and the earth standing out of water and in the water, 6 by which the world that then existed perished, being flooded with water. 7 But the heavens and the earth which are now preserved by the same word, are reserved for fire until the day of judgment and perdition of ungodly men.

Psalm 19

The heavens declare the glory of God;
And the firmament shows His handiwork.
2Day unto day utters speech,
And night unto night reveals knowledge.
3There is no speech nor language
Where their voice is not heard.

Which human masters are these again?

Payback said:

Shiny's required to trust his human masters. He just regurgitates their wildly incongruous and self-referential errors. Any belief system that actively suppresses rational thought and "demonizes" anyone who doesn't toe the party line is anathema to intelligent society. All the worst atrocities committed in history are made by true believers like Shiny. If not first hand, then rationalized afterwards, which is just as bad in my opinion.

I think the majority of white people dont really think much about race because they mostly don't interact with other races. I think it really does depend on where you live.

I grew up in Hawaii where I experienced racism as a white person. In California growing up you notice that the mexicans hang out with other mexicans and blacks with other blacks so you naturally just hang out with other white people. There are exceptions of course but that's all they seem to be for the most part.

In Montana where I live now its almost all white. I didn't move up here for that reason; it's just the way it is.

As a Christian I see all people as created in Gods image and those that Jesus died for. We are all one blood as the scripture says.

I feel sad for those who forsake their own salvation.

I find it much more sad that people are willing to delude themselves with placating mythos that can't stand the slightest critical examinations than I find the fact that there's almost certainly no god(s) by any definition. Lack of a supreme being is not a scary thing to me in the least, but a capricious, judgmental, incomprehensible, vengeful god ready to cast immortal souls into hell for eternity over small rule infractions is horrifying.

Reality is scary. I get why people would hide their heads under the safety blanket of religion(s), I just disagree that it's any more useful against reality than hiding under a sheet is against home invaders. It might make you feel better because you can't see them, but that's all (unless they are as dumb as the bugblatter beast of Traal, who thinks if you can't see it, it can't see you).

I feel bad for your uncle, who it sounds like believes in god out of a fear instilled in him as a child. Consciously, it sounds like he understands it's an irrational belief, but fear makes people do irrational things all the time. Fear is the mind killer.

I wasn't sad about it before I became a Christian, so why do you think I am sad about it now and using my beliefs to shield myself from the harsh reality? Funnily enough, this is one of the things atheists tell themselves about believers to justify their rejection of God.

The reason Christians believe is because they have the conviction that they are sinners before a holy God, and that there is a judgment coming where everyone will have to answer for their life. We believe because there is a risen Savior named Jesus Christ who offers eternal life to all that will put their trust in Him.

You keep thinking that so you don't get sad.

I have an uncle who told me that he believes because the idea of no god scares him. I appreciate that honesty. That makes sense to me. I however don't find the fact there is no god scary or sad. It just is. There are enough real things you could be scared or sad about.

If that is all you have to live for, isn't that pretty sad? Thankfully we live in a Universe which does have a Creator, and He is personally interested in and interactive with His creation. Our lives have meaning and value and are eternally significant.

Why Love Is Never As Nice As It Should Be

shinyblurry says...

Love is an action word; it is something that you do. People today think love is a feeling but what happens when the feeling runs out?

"I'm not in love with you anymore" = I don't feel love for you anymore

This is an inferior type of love which is based on feelings and physical desire. In greek it is called Eros.

There is another type of love called Agape love, which is unconditional love. It means I love you whether I feel it or not, and regardless of whether you return it to me or not.

Eros is selfish love, and Agape is unconditional love. Many marriages have ended because they were based on Eros, and not Agape love.
