Yves Behar Talks About the $100 Laptop

Farhad2000 says...

Nice concept.

But lets be serious, first of all the laptop needs Internet access to be really useful which is prohibitively expensive in Africa, it doesn't provide the necessary training to the teachers to use cohesively in the classroom, it has been actually sold by kids in Africa to make more money.

To me it seem like another technological pipe dream that would have been better pooled into real training for schools, building up infrastructure, providing water and power supplies.

Soldier Questions the Human Race and Weapons

calvados says...

In highschool, I had a very pretentious, very full-of-herself teacher who once opined to us that if there were no more guns, if they somehow vanished never to return, there would be no more wars. I reminded her about swords and all the killing that had happened in the millennia prior to firearms, and that to think people couldn't return to killing each other wholesale hand-to-hand was a pipe dream. She didn't like that.

Conflict is part of human nature; therefore violence is unfortunately part of human nature, between individuals and between groups. Evil does not exist simply due to the existence of modern weaponry, which is exactly what buddy just said in the video. To paraphrase Albert Einstein, so long as there are humans, there will be wars.

Ann Coulter Wants Jews to be 'Perfected'

pipp3355 says...

what an ugly person.

in an October 2007 interview with the New York Observer, Coulter said:[121]

"If we took away women's right to vote, we'd never have to worry about another Democrat president. It's kind of a pipe dream, it's a personal fantasy of mine, but I don't think it's going to happen. And it is a good way of making the point that women are voting so stupidly, at least single women.

"It also makes the point, it is kind of embarrassing, the Democratic Party ought to be hanging its head in shame, that it has so much difficulty getting men to vote for it. I mean, you do see it's the party of women and 'We'll pay for health care and tuition and day care -- and here, what else can we give you, soccer moms?'"

The Electric Kool-Aid Acid Test - C.I.A. Scenario Backfires

djsunkid says...

This is a fantastic and provocative documentary. I definitely have an affinity for many of the people in this video, but the extended explanation of the politics of the 60s has left me SO mad and frustrated and disappointed.

What the hell is wrong with the USA? FFS, Vietnam wasn't enough? How many other countries did you fuck with? What the fuck are you doing in Iraq? Are you going to shoot more students when you go into Iran and they protest?

...

It makes me so mad. The only thing I can imagine is that this video represents a pipe dream. Some hippies wanted change, but most wanted sex drugs and rock and roll.

I think if the movement was really strong enough to end the war in vietnam, probably those same hippies wouldn't let the current war happen.

gr. it makes me so mad.

TED -Aubrey de Grey claims to have a roadmap to defeat aging

joedirt says...

Total crap.. this guy presents nothing but his pipe dreams and begs for money. No wonder his peers have forementioned opinion of this guy. How about some results, facts, or science.. Give my foundation 100M and I guarantee you I'll have immortal life by 2050! (Of course I may not be alive, by then, but keep the money coming)

What the Bleep Do We Know?! (pseudo-science documentary)

burhan says...

it's a recruiting tool for a cult headed by a lady who claims to be possessed by an ancient warrior who lived in Atlantis. While I think it's true that our inner state of consciousness can change our outer reality in some degree, the way it is portrayed by these people seems to be indicative of the same kind of pipe dream that most cults and new age sects pass off to unsuspecting people (and their wallets) who are searching for something outside of normal religion.
