Cop Drives Man Over 100 Miles After Traffic Stop ...

newtboy says...

It took a while, but it seems he was on the clock according to the highway patrol spokesperson, but got permission so wasn't derilict. No idea if he got golden time or regular pay, or for how long, but he got paid, so personal kudos rescinded, kudos to the department head that OKed it.
A gofundme to pay the department back might be good, but I'm not starting one....I wouldn't know how.

You could find out if a Go Fund Me has been set up to reimburse the money cost. If not you could start one to make your point. Who would be the hero then?

Fly Through a Nebula 163,000 Light Years Away (30 Yrs...)

Janus says...

I like to think I rarely get triggered, but their channel name ("It's Okay To Be Smart", gee thanks for permission) really does trigger me. I assume it's targeted at children, but it still annoys me.

The video is an interesting overview, though.

FPV drone pilot is invited to film a power plant demolition

mxxcon says...

You don't know what he was hired for!
When you "assume" things like that you make ass out of yourself.
If this demolition company hired him to have a useful structural analysts video then they are fucking idiots for not properly doing research in who they are hiring and for not giving him proper permission to fly more than 1 aircraft! He's a fucking famous drone racer and it's all over his CV! Why the fuck would they hire him to take steadyshot video?! What kind of analysis can you make from a single vantage point?! Competent demolition companies use dozens if not hundreds of camera setup in critical locations, not a single done.

He was hired to create a cool marketing shot for the company and that's what he did!

cloudballoon said:

I concur. This is more a fail than a success. The commission, I assume, is not to have something "cool" to see -- like watching aerial parkour -- but to have footage at each stages of detonations for the engineers to analyze if every calculations/explosive hookups went off as planned.

With that as parameters, there's almost nothing to see here. If the drone is equipped with a wide-angle lens and/or multi-cam setup (filming both the building and the smokestack at the same time) than maybe the video would be useful. What I see here is crap, narrated by clowns.

@mxxcon: The drone controllers are the assholes IMO. Shouldn't be paid, or paid 10-20% of the commission, max!

Cart Narcs Catch A Dumb Hag

newtboy says...

I think you people miss the point. She is in the wrong, disrespectful, and insulting from the get go. He's being a douche intentionally to get under the skin of people like her who believe they have no obligations to be decent human beings, people who leave their messes for others to clean up without qualms because somebody will take care of them. She was being a dumb bitch before he arrived, leaving her cart where it blocks both the parking spot and endangers the neighboring car, and could easily damage others by rolling, that's why cart return spots exist. Maybe his car has been repeatedly damaged by inappropriately abandoned carts, we don't know his motivation for demanding others not be irresponsible. He maybe should have just moved it and a few others to block her then sat back and recorded her outrage, and not engaged with the douchey nutjob....but that wouldn't have the desired effect.

Guaranteed she litters, despite her claims....she absolutely records him without permission, something she claimed was illegal when he did it. Rules don't apply to people like her. Civility isn't part of their makeup, neither is accepting social obligations...She must be a Trump supporter.

He was calm and polite at first until she went full superbitch on him immediately.

I fully support being a dick to dicks, and a douche to douches. I would have supported him knocking her phone out of her hand like she tried multiple times...turnabout is always fair play, and she was the disrespectful douchebag first and best....eventually blocking handicapped parking in her disrespectful rage after trying twice to break his camera/phone.

If you're doing something wrong that could harm others and someone calls you out, YOU are the asshole, not the upright citizen who saw something and said something. If you get outraged at being called out for ignoring your responsibility, you are the douchebag that deserves public shaming.

Kid Physically Threatens Teacher For Not Rounding His Grade

newtboy says...

Any time someone else touches you in anger or endangers you or those you are responsible for first.

Imo, when he pushed the teacher, he gave that teacher permission to take him out...and I'll go ahead and say this bullshit about responding with equal force is just that, bullshit. Once you start a fight by touching someone, you remove any right you had to complain that they're better at fighting and broke all your teeth out. Should've thought about that before putting your hands on someone else thinking you would come out victorious.

Let's Talk About Facebook

newtboy says...

They've reported that it secretly, somehow, used granted permission to copy certain personal information from participants as a way to surreptitiously steal far more information than was allowed including the private information of any of their friends, totally against written rules of Facebook, their contract with Facebook, and common decency. Granted, Facebook did nothing to stop them.

There's tons of evidence they used it, but not clear public proof....yet. wait. It took 2 years for this to be public (reportedly Facebook knew years ago and stayed silent).

Again, reportedly they used it to target posts and 'news' individually, specifically contradicting posts and liked stories by individual users.

Yep, Facebook has a lot of blame here, but not all of it. CA are some seriously underhanded bastards all around, see the recordings.

Jinx said:

I could well be wrong about this, but my understanding is that the data wasn't really stolen, it was freely shared by Facebook. I also don't think there is any evidence that suggests that CA used their psychoanalytic stuff on the Trump campaign specifically. It sounds like they are targeting voters more on purely their geographical location than any in depth analysis of their social media profile. It seems doubtful to me that CA were the only ones at this game though...

I do think Facebook absolutely shares some blame - They hand over their users data and make app creators etc pinky-swear that they will use it responsibly and delete it once they are done...and then they do absolutely nothing to ensure that agreement is honoured. They either willfully ignored it because they knew the data was likely to be misused, or they were naive to the point of complete incompetence. I really can't see an option C.

KVUE Austin TX Closed Caption labels Child Victim as Monkey

newtboy says...

Please don't get behind stupidity like this.
When you do, you give permission for rational people to ignore you when there's a real slight or serious issue.
His explanation was rational, clear, educated, and undoubtedly correct. Get over it and back off calling auto correct racist. It makes you appear unhinged.

Side note, my brother calls his kids monkeys.....they're white.

Btw, I'm almost always on your side in these debates, but absolutely not this one.

The Most Disturbing Painting

RFlagg says...

I'm going to guess he means the movie Cabin in the Woods, at which point there's probably a painting in the dinning room. It's been ages since I saw the movie though, so not sure I remember it. (I remember the painting/sculpture in Devil's Advocate, which then had to be edited a bit on further releases to be less like the original artist version as he didn't give permission to use it. Sort of unrelated though...lol)

ChaosEngine said:

Thanks for the promote. Do you have a link to the painting? (Googling "The Hunt from Cabin in the Woods" just gives me images of cabins in the woods!)

Don't Touch or Talk to Service Dogs

newtboy says...

I would guess this is in part the result of the rash of fake emotional support animals (pets in public).
Since likely 90% of "service animals" are really pets with vests and nothing more, and treated as such, those with actual service animals need to understand that the general public has little idea how to act around actual service dogs and have some extra patience. If his animal is trained well, part of that training is to ignore distractions when working. Sure, there's no need to constantly test that, but also no need to freak out if someone talks to your dog in the store.

That said, you also shouldn't engage someone's pet without permission. It's rude and can be dangerous.

New Rule: Distinction Deniers

JiggaJonson says...

@newtboy
@ChaosEngine

It seems I'm an outlier in my opinion then. I don't agree that one second after I said "no" that constitutes rape anymore than my wife grinding into me a few more times when I tell her something similar because I'm seeing cracks in the damn that are going to cause a tidal wave.

To be clearer, I'm laying out a definition argument. I don't feel rape should be defined that way. You can't interlock two sweaty bodies and reasonably expect to constantly have a hand hovering over an ejector seat button.

I'm uncertain about what exactly rape should be defined as, but, in spite of me feeling that what happened to me was an outcome I explicitly didn't want; at some point during the initial physical union of the male and female genitalia, permissions about what is suddenly okay or not okay with that intimate contact becomes EXTREMELY difficult to define. When two people seem to be working in tandem at that point, I assert that permission is intertwined and, as a result, confusing. (hence our debate)

It's because of that confusion that I'm so hesitant to assign blame for a miscalculation of affection/passion.
@newtboy I think this is where the question of intent plays a role.

Reps. Jim Jordan and Matt Gaetz on FISA abuses

newtboy says...

I've seen this game countless times. Make iniquitous , but non specific accusations of nefarious activities, claim to have excoriating soon to be released but currently inaccessible evidence, rant about upcoming mass prosecution of political enemies, move on to the next charge.

No email needed to see the obvious, and I go to sleep at 3am anyway.
Republicans and Faux News (the original fake news) are the boys who cried wolf to the extreme, all credibility long gone. Remember, you gave them explicit permission to lie to you, don't be surprised that they are.
