Sarah Silverman Comments on Louis CK

ChaosEngine says...

From what I’ve read, he always “asked permission” (his words), but it seems like that was a formality and it was gonna happen anyway.

Either way, if someone is clearly uncomfortable with what you’re doing.. ok, it’s technically legal, but it’s still pretty fucked up.

HenningKO said:

I dunno if that either confirms or denies the begrudging-but-technically-consent line... but there are plenty of other women who didn't say "yes".

Sarah Silverman Comments on Louis CK

The Louie thing is a watershed moment in what is classified as unacceptable ... because he asked permission and they said "yes" ... but because they really /felt/ "no", it's as if they had said "no".

If you don't know who Matthew Silver is:

"My role as a clown, trickster and village idiot is to parody excessive seriousness by playing with taboos, rules, and social norms. My inspiration comes from my heart. I perform for smiles and laughter, loosening people’s armor, and opening up a portal for imagination, creativity and love.

Some people see me as a raving lunatic, pompous “artistic” hipster, or attention-starved 9 year-old, but people don’t consciously understand the role of a clown in society. Read between the lines and you will start to see things from a different perspective. By breaking down boundaries, I provide you, the viewer, with permission to open your mind and realize it’s okay to act silly from time to time. We may trick ourselves into believing we know everything, constantly striving for perfection in a society that requires a civilized, job-holding, serious individual. We cannot be perfect. If we allow ourselves the chance to be flawed perhaps we can let the obstacles humble us, rather than make us rigid. In the end we can let our guards down to attain our most basic need of giving and receiving love."

Trump Attacks the Mayor of San Juan: A Closer Look

newtboy says...

Bwaahahaha!

Both infrastructures destroyed, but PRs is much better, yet they got less. PR is American, and begged for help during the storm. Haiti almost had no government after the earthquake, we just showed up to help.
You know SOME damage will happen, so prepare....but that ignores the point, Haiti had no warning and no preparation, but twice the help in 1/8 the time, even though they're also an island, surrounded by water, big water, and even though near 100% of structures were destroyed in Haiti with roads blocked and bridges impassable.
FEMA spent millions preparing in Texas and Florida...what's different?
PR requested FEMA help before landfall, and haven't stopped begging for it since.
Really, federal agencies cannot go where they aren't specifically requested by locals even in emergencies...and you think declaring the island (and San Juan specifically) a disaster zone and requesting FEMA and the military isn't a request....who's a moron again?
Couldn't that be 'Joseph Curl admits he hasn't met with San Juan mayor'? It's his job to provide emergency services and supplies, he's failed completely. Hypothetically, if she were killed, incapacitated, or trapped, San Juan just gets abandoned? Besides, pretending they don't have permission to enter town or knowledge of the need without her in person properly formatted request is just ludicrous and moronic.
They have permission, they need drivers that aren't there. They blame locals for not answering their phones and showing up to drive....but 95% don't have electricity, most cell towers are destroyed, and most roads are impassable because FEMA and the military continue to do little....but sure, it's those lazy Puerto Ricans that are the hold up.

Your ridiculous hyper politically biased opinion article actually discredits your contention. She has met them, is in constant contact, and her subordinates are stationed in the FEMA headquarters...she just hasn't wasted her time visiting that headquarters personally because there's no reason to besides a photo op, and she's busy trying to save lives. I'm sure Trump will play that game though, he likes having his picture taken.

Typical liberal trying to twist and combine facts. You are coming off like a pretty big moron. You cant compare Haiti and PR as its a apple/orange situation. Do you know the situation of the infrastructure between the 2? Do you know how the government of each nation reacted? I bet there's a lot of difference between the two.

Also, you dont know how much damage is going to be caused by a hurricane. Why would they ramp up all the services and waste tens of millions of dollars when just a street sign gets blown over? (besides you liberals would then complain about wasting government money for nothing) They knew Katrina and Andrews were coming too but the US government has to wait to see if they are needed.

Also, federal agencies like FEMA have to be requested by the local governments to be there. This is where you guys are such hypocrites. If the military moved into a location and started to take over, you'd be all up in arms about it. Well, FEMA is a federal entity too. They just cant GO into a location if they arent being requested.

As far as the San Juan mayor, here's an article from Oct 1st:
http://www.dailywire.com/news/21758/san-juan-mayor-admits-she-hasnt-met-federal-joseph-curl#exit-modal

I bet even with this smoking gun in this incompetent Mayor, who is a Democrat, that you are still going to blame Trump. You people are so sad.

"Alternative Math" - The confusing times we live in

bcglorf says...

They play this like it's a hypothetical future when up here in my part of Canada it's actually more historical.

A teacher in Edmonton was fired for giving student's a zero on assignments they didn't hand in:
http://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/edmonton/edmonton-teacher-suspended-for-giving-0s-1.1131453

After a few years in court he's won on appeal but yet to be seen if that's going to be the end of it. In my province of Manitoba, there is a tacit no fail policy in place where keeping any kids back a grade is almost unheard of. Not only does it require parent's permission and approval before holding a student back, but sometimes even then kids have been pushed along forwards a grade, ready or not.

If you look through and provincial standard math curriculum, it includes gems like this.

http://www.edu.gov.mb.ca/k12/cur/math/mathcurr.html

For a problem like 7 + 5, providing the answer 12, is incorrect. You are instead supposed to show multiple methods of solving the problem, like saying 7 is the same as 2+5 and I know 5+5 is 10, so 10 +2 is 12, thus the answer is 12. It's absolute stupidity, institutionalised and made into a standard. The nutjobs like those in this video have already pretty much 'won' up here in Canada and the struggle is to get back to a sane world where Math and education aren't butchered.

Yea, I thought that was going to be the point of the video. When I started reading about bunkers in the comments, I knew the video would be worthless. Nobody goes to war without permission of the bankers.

When Windows 10 makes you racist

ChaosEngine says...

Well, it would appear that MS is monitoring my posts here and felt that my defending them was unwarranted because literally just this morning I returned to work to find my PC had rebooted without my permission.

Granted, this is a brand new machine that I haven't finished configuring, but still, that is bloody annoying.

So I'm off for a coffee and a slice of humble pie.

Damn you M$!!!

CrushBug said:

I hear you, and would have completely agreed with you, right up until Windows 10 restarted for an update in the middle of me playing a full-screen game. Apparently it was a similar message as what he had, but I couldn't see it behind the game. So that sucked.

That was before the Creator's Update, back when my Windows "active hours" were deemed too long by Microsoft standards, which is just crap. That is fixed now.

I keep my machine updated, but it seems like my work environment has more control over Windows updates than I do as a home user (running Win 10 Pro).

New Rule: The Lesser of Two Evils

bareboards2 says...

No, you don't need my permission.

But if you and your like-minded compatriots still refuse to understand what your purity tests have done to this country, then yes, you do bear responsibility for the climate we are in.

Everyone who can't see that Clinton, in her imperfection, would be miles better for the citizenry than DT, bears responsibility for continuing the blind purity nonsense.

But go ahead. Think what you think. But what the holy hell will it take? What does DT have to do before you and your companions get off the purity hobby horse?

I repeat.

New Rule: The Lesser of Two Evils

Stormsinger says...

Don't really need your permission to have my opinions or to vote how I choose, but thanks for playing.

Seriously, lighten the fuck up. Nothing I could have done would have changed a fucking thing. Maybe you have more influence than I...in which case, -you- can take the blame. I'm not about to do so.

It has always been The Supreme Court, @Stormsinger.

And still gliding over the single most horrible thing to happen to the PEOPLE of this country. The WOMEN of this country. The MINORITIES of this country.

But sure. Stand by your refusal to vote for a "corporate" candidate.

Jesus H Christ.

Racist is what you do, not what you say.

newtboy says...

I think that's totally up to you to decide.

What he ignores is that what you say IS something you are doing...with your mouth. Being verbally derogatory gives others permission to go farther.
Actions are more important and telling, but words still matter. They set the tone for actions to come.

That said, he has every right to say and think whatever he likes, imo...but listeners have a right to react (reasonably) as they like.

The Adpocalypse: What it Means

MilkmanDan says...

I agree that NoScript tends to make it a hassle to get basic functionality out of the vast majority of the web. You have to play around with allowing scripts from some domains and not others, on pretty much every page you visit.

...Which is pretty scary, if you think about it. Are all of those cross-site scripts beneficial or even necessary from a user standpoint? Hell no. Users stand to gain nothing from all that crap running. From our perspective, they just increase load times and data usage, often compounded with auto-reloading. We should have control over that stuff in all circumstances, but it becomes absolutely critical in mobile internet where we generally don't have as much processing power AND the vast majority of people have data usage caps.

Basically what I'm saying is, the admitted fact that NoScript tends to make the web unusable is a symptom of a deeper problem with how the web is constructed these days.

If you like the idea of NoScript, but generally find it too high-maintenance, you might want to try Privacy Badger. It requires somewhat less user input with regards to which trackers/scripts get blocked, instead going with defaults based on "trustworthiness" as measured by algorithms from the EFF. Those defaults can be tweaked if you desire, also.

I usually run a Firefox (or Pale Moon) client that is extremely locked down. UBlock Origin, NoScript, Privacy Badger, Self-Destructing Cookies, sometimes Ghostery, etc. I use that as my default browser, and take the time to fine-tune the controls in NoScript, element hiding in uBlock, etc. for sites that I visit regularly.

But frequently, I'll find a link to some article that I want to read and notice that the page content won't load at all since it requires some nonsensical script. In those cases, if I don't want to take the time to fiddle with NoScript etc. permissions, I copy the URL and fire up Chrome in incognito mode, with only uBlock Origin.

Probably not worth the hassle for most people, but I guess I'm kicking and screaming my way into this brave new world.

ChaosEngine said:

Just for the record, I do run ad block plus on chrome.

@00Scud00, I used to run noscript, but it pretty much made the web unusable, or I spent so much time enabling js on certain sites it wasn't worth it.
