geekyglasses rages against superman vs batman

EMPIRE says...

I can't stand SvB nay-sayers anymore!

We get it... you're pretentious whiny dick-nerds who couldn't recognize a decent movie if it hit you in the face, and who love to shit on Zack Snyder

The movie is absolutely fine (with the exception of a few things).

The fact that it has a much lower fresh rating in Rotten Tomatoes than "The Room" (the Tommy Wiseau one), should be more than enough evidence to show just how fucking stupid the vitriol for this movie has become.

Bill Maher: New Rule – There's No Shame in Punting

heropsycho says...

First off, he's not talking about everyone who plays video games. He's talking about people who ONLY play video games to the point that they're socially maladjusted. Big difference.

And even if he was talking about the geekier video gaming crowd, I don't even understand why it even registered on your radar as insulting. If you're a group that's actually discriminated against broadly, fine, but nerds? In this day and age of Mark Zuckerburg and Bill Gates? Really?!

It reminds me of this Louie CK bit.

"You can't even hurt my feelings."

Us poor nerds these days, with our solid paying upper middle class jobs and even higher, with college degrees! Pity us!

Just have the ability to laugh at yourself from time to time. Trust me, it's all going to be ok.

ChaosEngine said:

yeah, but that doesn't mean we shouldn't call it out.

It's a lazy stereotype and honestly, these days it's about as funny, original and accurate as saying "hah! women! everyone knows they can't play sports!"

If you're going to pull out a lazy stereotype at least be funny with it.

Bill Maher: New Rule – There's No Shame in Punting

Asmo says...

It's a joke based on the stereotypical image of the gamer nerd...

And it's been done plenty of times before.

Seriously, there are enough thin skinned people in the world already.

"Videogamer who finally lands a date with a real woman..."

I just thought that term was weird - "videogamer." Sounds like a half-assed attempt to take a shot at...I'm not sure who. The youth? I play video games, I'm 36. Don't wanna brag, but I've seen some a poon or two, in my day...

Stephen visits his favorite Teacher

ant says...

I wished I could find my favorite (geek/nerd)y teacher. ALthough, I did see my 5th grade non-(geek/nerd)y teacher at a local church recently.

I bet his other teachers are jealous.

Morgan Freeman narrates "life"

shagen454 says...

Funny thing about that guy is he has what looks like a Bastro patch on his modern backpack. Back in the day DIY hardcore kids would put band patches on their backpacks. Bastro was a mathy "post-hardcore" band that came before the now famous band Tortoise, they also played in Gastro Del Sol with Jim O'Rourke who is famous for his own solo career, playing in Sonic Youth, (dad rock band) Wilco and many others. So, this guy is a nerd but once upon a time before capturing his head on a pole - he was a cool nerd. OR maybe it's not a Bastro patch and I'm the only nerd, lol.

Classic DOS games roundup, circa 1995

shagen454 says...

I was 13/14, games back then were magical. Anytime I was on a plane or in the car I was reading PC Gamer or CGM drooling over the demos (or shareware!), ads, previews and reviews. Remember those days? When information on gaming was largely through print?! I still remember those Dark Forces previews, I could have shot a load. PC gaming at that point really was fucking cutting edge.

1997 & 1998 also hold a special flame in gaming for me - 1997: Ultima Online (actually learned HTML and had a website for UO cuz I was a NERD), Fallout, GTA, Age of Empires, Dungeon Keeper, Quake II, Myth (incredible multiplayer component probably even still).

1998: Starcraft, Half-Life, Baldur's Gate, Thief, Grim Fandango, Fallout 2, Tribes, THIEF, Unreal, Commandos.... so many innovative games back then. Now we just build on them over and over and over again

Hardcore Henry - Official Trailer

newtboy says...

....and? That's the only way it would be good. Every Heavy Metal nerd of the 80's would be twitching with anticipation at the thought.

A Druuna movie would be great, but good luck keeping it anything less than an NC-17.

Yokay... I was just thinking about your call for upvotes and why I'm not going to upvote this. Which is fine, our tastes differ! I'm sure you haven't upvoted all my nerdy nerd hip hop music videos either.

The Birth of Captain Phasma

Everyday People React To Being Called Beautiful

eoe says...

@oritteropo:

The video definitely answers some questions:

  1. She goes to an arts school and was able to do "anything" for her final project. No dig to her, but there's some privileged shit right there.

  2. She's not super attractive, but she's cute and obviously very extroverted, friendly, and undoubtedly popular. If I was a shy nerd and was confronted by her (and probably having seen her be this way before in the halls), I'd definitely be skeptical and assume she was being an asshole to me.

  3. Regardless, she does seem pretty genuine.

  4. God damn, college art kids are annoying with all their "wow, I'm so laid back I fucking curse all the fucking time for no fucking reason or some shit. Fuck."
