This.. this on vr/google cardboard would rock. This looks like the many FPS movies we've seen but on a more hollywood level. And with VR out this year it is right on time.

DOOM-campaign-new trailer

Contextual kills usually mean that the engine is going to feel clunky and heavy, the wading-through-treacle effect. I really miss the days of fast, flowing FPS games that had huge individual skill ceilings involving all things like aim, dodging, rocket jumping, bunnyhopping and other clever manipulations of the engine.

That's what i think of when i get nostalgic for old FPS games like doom and quake and (later) half life 1.

Classic DOS games roundup, circa 1995

I started college the year after. Lost a good deal of my freshman year to Quake. Oh boy, I miss those days. Only one fps that people played, and it was amazing.

Rainbow six Siege gives me sexual feelings!

The AI in terrorist hunt mode might actually be the best I've ever faced in an FPS. I play that mode more than the PvP tbh.

They react to sound like people, shoot blind through cover to probe for you, attack you where your are weak, pull back where you are too strong etc.

Bastards even recognise your choke points and sabotage them by opening other routes and or destroying obstacles. (Or recognise you are outflanking theirs if you make too much noise etc.)

Make you think and move more in terms of what makes real world sense than simply what will outfox the AI.

TBH they are often smarter than the human players who play like they are in COD or BF and wonder why the tactical players keep shafting them.

Um...I'm pretty sure having a gay orgy and 'no homo' are mutually exclusive, buddy.

@artician , I'm also disappointed at the number of online-multiplayer only games these days. They finally have the computing power to make a decent AI, and they seem to have decided to all but give up on single player FPS. I've heard that's the case with the new Star Wars game too. Crappy. I just want to kill me some bots, not get crushed by 11 year olds.

Star Wars Battlefront Real Life Mod

ChaosEngine says...

Bear in mind this is not the stock game. This is a mod that, in the words of the author, "takes 30-50 fps off the standard game"

I don't know what they used to get it running like this in 4K, but I can only assume it was more expensive than the average house.

Hovering a Helicopter is Hilariously Hard

spawnflagger says...

I remember the Desert Combat mod for BF1942 was one of the first FPS with helicopters, and I also remember how every n00b would jump in, full throttle, and immediately kill themselves. While it had a steeper learning curve, once mastered, was very precise controls.
All later Battlefield games that had helis, they dumbed-down the controls to make it easier, and they just weren't as fun or precise.

Me, flying helicopters in GTA 5. Weird thing is, I remember playing helicopter sims back in the day and I don't have any memory of it being as hard as it was in GTA.

George Lucas on his decision to "break up" with "Star Wars".

Tested Tests Valve's Steam Controller

Is the right track pad really 1 to 1? I noticed settings for sensitivity and track ball setting in the video. I would think to turn off track ball and crank up the sensitivity for FPS...

Tested Tests Valve's Steam Controller

ChaosEngine says...

Steam link is very interesting to me.

I'm a PC gamer. I don't own any consoles and 99% of the time I'm perfectly happy with that (using a controller for an FPS is sick and wrong!).

But there are some games I would like to play from my couch with a controller (Arkham for instance)

As for the controller itself, it looks ok, but I really don't see any reason to use it over my trusty old 360 pad. As I said, I'll never play an fps with anything other than kbm, so unless it's better for driving or 3rd person, I'm gonna go with meh.

Oh and just in case anyone thinks I'm just hating on Valve, I'm drinking coffee at work from my aperture science mug and I have a signed poster of the TF2 heavy in my house
