Some people will block that lane to keep others from scooting ahead and making it worse up front. That's what the semi with the dash cam was doing at the time. I don't think that was the intent in this case with the van.

Sheriff Caught On Bodycam Telling Deputies To Lie

newtboy says...

Granted, intent is debatable, but it sure seemed like he was going along to me...until the other officer hinted his camera had recorded the instruction to lie.
Also he knew the crashed cop car's dash cam was on. I'm pretty sure that's why they weren't going to call it an accident, just an incident, that wouldn't require the dash cam video be viewed.

Not one contradicted the order to falsify the report on scene, and more than one said "yep" or "yes sir" when told the lie, then checked to be sure it wasn't on their camera. After that officer checked his camera and said "mine's off" it sounded like the other officer was telling him his was still recording, looking at it, covering it with his hand and saying..."when I started I hit mine for the majority of it, I hit it" instead of "mine's off too, we're good".

It sounded here like only one of the deputies filled out their report accurately....after going along with the lie on scene.

No question, not one reported the instruction to falsify charges, and none of them were charged or even officially reprimanded. The Sheriff just retired, probably with full benefits and pension.

I think the next batch of cop body cams should have fake off switches that only turn the red led off, not the recording. We could clean house with a quickness.

Watched 3:59 and interpreted that differently. Debatable whether the officer intended to lie or knew the camera was on. I'm happy that officer refused to compromise the truth.

I'm with you there on the worthless off switches, let's hope information changes our world for the good.

A Scary Time

scheherazade says...

What sort of evidence?

- Accusation/testimonial evidence?

- Or Physical evidence that is an invariant indicator of rape, that you can hold, see, measure, etc?

Anyone can accuse. That's effortless. Takes barely more energy than breathing.

(It's also effortless for a group of sour girls to gang up on a dude that upset them. Because "f that guy'. (That attitude isn't even rare.))

Physical evidence? People are convicted day in and day out of all sorts of things without physical evidence.

(Court is after all a popularity contest.)

My scary moment was when a cop detained me and told me he was going to charge me with : reckless driving, driving without a seat belt, and with threatening his life.

Why? Because I pulled up to a road block and asked him if I could drive past his road block to go home (which was a short way past the road block)... and he was having some emotional stability/triggering issues at the time, and he instantly turned red and went full on tirade mode.

Fortunately for me, after detaining me a few hours, some switch flipped in his head again and he just went to his car, got in, and drove off. Surreal.

So I asked myself :
If I had been charged, what would be the difference in court, vis-a-vis evidence, between it being a lie, and it being the truth?
Answer : No difference.

All he threatened me with was provable only by his word, and no evidence was required. I likely would have gone to jail, and had my life turned upside down... all on some person's grimace.

My view on evidence changed that day.
I will _NEVER_ convict anyone of anything, without physical tangible evidence that I can hold in my hand and see with my eyes, or at least run forensic tests on.
Testimony doesn't mean _shit_. It's absolutely, patently _worthless_.

(I also now run a dash cam everywhere I drive to protect myself from false accusations)

Basically, unless you have physical proof, I don't care.
Whatever you have to say, prove it.
No proof, no cares.

That goes for all accusations of anything ever. Across the board. Absolute.

It's the standard I want people to have for me, and it's the standard I have for others.

-scheherazade

(Aside, unrelated : I know a dude that was raped by a girl (he was nearly paralyzed drunk at his own house party). Wasn't even a secret. People at the party knew it happened. Nobody cared. When he complained, all anyone said was "Oh whatever. Shut up get over it". It wasn't even a question of 'did it happen?', it was a matter of "so what?".)

Finally, where is the abandoning of proof and evidence? Show me someone who has been convicted of sexual assault without any evidence. There's a big difference between accepting an allegation is worth looking into and convicting that person.

If a woman (or a man) comes forward with a claim of sexual assault, they are entitled to be taken seriously. That doesn't mean their alleged assailant is guilty though.

Officer pulls over daughter's boyfriend

Sagemind says...

I don't think he really does care for her!
She's a possession of his, and that's all.

This is the same abusive behavior men display when they abuse their spouse. It's purely about power and control. He never once stopped to think about her feelings, thoughts, opinions, of her future.
This is how a jolted lover acts when his girlfriend leaves him for someone else. Using force against someone's will to get their own way at any cost. and it's always the cost of others.

Abusive people need to be stopped. Let's all just be thankful this was on dash cam. They got the evidence they needed to proove he isn't fit to be in the authority role of a Police Officer.

Lets hope this footage and proceedings gives that girl the chance to make the decisions needed to remove this toxicity from her life.

It is a shame that he abused his power and position as a police officer, because I really believe he cares for his daughter's well being. He probably doesn't know how to show it, and that's unfortunate for both of them.

Car pulls out of rest area without looking

jimnms says...

The dash cam is mounted in the center of the window so it has a much better view than the driver. The driver is sitting farther back and on the left side, and probably couldn't see the car until it was too late because there is a structural pillar and a mirror blocking the drivers view on the front left side where the car came from.

AeroMechanical said:

To me, this looks very much a case of poor driving all around. The truck driver obviously wasn't paying attention to the on-ramp. He had six seconds to react and did nothing to avoid a collision for five of them. I imagine the letter of the law says that it's the merging car's responsibility to merge safely, but if you're driving in the outside lane past an on-ramp, you ought to be watching for merging traffic. Just having the right-of-way doesn't excuse you from being vigilant about avoiding accidents.

Rocket In The Sky Plus Accident

Lendl says...

It was not a test launch. It was an instantaneous launch just after sunset to launch 10 satellites. The clock on the dash cam must not be set to local time.

"SpaceX is targeting launch of Iridium-4 from Space Launch Complex 4E (SLC-4E) at Vandenberg Air Force Base in California. The instantaneous launch window is at 5:27 p.m. PST on Friday, December 22"

"The two-stage, kerosene-fueled rocket climbed into the rarefied upper atmosphere a few minutes following liftoff shortly after sunset at 5:27:34 p.m. PST (8:27:34 p.m. EST; 0127:34 GMT) from Space Launch Complex 4-East Vandenberg Air Force Base northwest of Los Angeles.

The Falcon 9 left a brilliant white plume of exhaust in its wake, catching rays of sunshine as it soared above the stratosphere. The ever-expanding plume left a teardrop-shaped mark in the sky, prompting countless social media posts from rush hour drivers and others who happened to catch an unexpected glimpse of the rocket’s trip to space."

at first I thought, "why don't they do these test launches late at night when fewer people are out on the roads?" then I saw the timestamp at the bottom was ~1:30am.

Bad driver gets 'accidentally' PIT-ed

Khufu says...

yup, he hit the brakes as soon as he noticed the guy wasn't going to shoulder check... Maybe he could have hit the brakes harder and sooner, but why would you assume the guy wouldn't look? to brake that hard when the other car was still in it's lane would have made no sense and been more dangerous in the conditions.. this guy with the dash cam did nothing wrong.

also in Canada we can have partial fault in accidents too. % of fault allocated and dispersion of insurance follows suit. so on a bicycle, you can be found partially at fault if you got hit, but since there isn't insurance for bicycles, only the driver's insurance would have to dish out.

jmd said:

Except that you CLEARLY see after heavily accelerating to pass 2 cars he hits his brakes and slows down when the other guys blinker goes on.

Who put those signs there?

SeesThruYou says...

Most of us have seen this kind of thing before in dash cam videos, and I've never been able to understand how it happens so frequently. I mean, what kind of idiot do you need to be to not realize your trailer is raised? I hope he lost is CDL after that shit.
