When You Had No Idea You Won A Medal In The Olympics

Slavoj Zizek: PC is a more dangerous form of totalitarianism

ChaosEngine says...

"The idea is that if you smoke during the flight e-cigarette you publicly display your addiction and that is not a good pedagogical example for others and so on and so on."

Or (far more likely) the airline realised that other passengers don't like people smoking around them in a confined space. You want to vape at home or outside? Knock yourself out. But kindly refrain from doing so in my cramped airspace. Otherwise, we'll test the old adage about how my right to swing my fist ends at your face.

He hasn't really presented any kind of decent argument here. Ok, the Carmen thing is stupid, but if you actually read the story behind that, it's because the Opera house was sponsored by a health company. Essentially they bowed to commercial pressure. Nothing to do with PC.

Even if WAS a "PC" decision, on what planet is that "a more dangerous form of totalitarianism"?

Someone decided they didn't want to stage an opera because there's smoking in it... oh no! Save us from opera-hitler!

Did the government step in and force them to do this? Nope, they made the decision themselves.

I flat out disagree with him on the meat shredders. I made my pulled pork with a fork for at least two years before I stumbled over the claws. And every single time, it took about 30 minutes to do 5 pounds, and I suffered from the shredding equivalent of writer's cramp. With the claws, that same five pounds takes around 7-8 pain-free minutes. They're a bargain.

I'm Pooping So Bad

SDGundamX says...

Christ, judgmental much people?

I'm guessing by the comments that most people here are not in the process of potty-training children or haven't done it for a while. If you have issues with the way the dad handled this, you might want to read up on potty training: http://www.babycenter.com/toddler-potty-training-advice

We finally just recently succeeded in getting our daughter to poop in the toilet. Oddly enough she's been peeing by herself there just fine for almost a year, but was terrified of the toilet (including training toilets) when pooping for the longest time. If I had just grabbed her and rushed her in there at the first first sign of a bowel movement I would have had to deal with hysterical screaming for the next two hours AND no bowel movement to boot (learned from experience, by the way--she'll ride the cramps out or twist her body to shit on the bathroom floor instead while screaming like we're sticking her with hot knives the whole time).

She simply wouldn't do it until she was ready to do it. And one day she was ready and there was much rejoicing in the household.

Everyone learns to poop in the toilet eventually, usually by age 4 at the latest. It's not a race and there shouldn't be any pressure involved.

tl;dr

You don't know this kid. You don't this dad. You don't know where they are in the potty training process or if either is even ready for it. Hence you don't get to be self-righteous and judge this guy's parenting based on the underwhelming evidence of one YouTube video.

Seriously though. Put the phone down and deal with your kid. He's cramping and that shit hurts, especially when you don't understand. He told dad he had to go. That means he doesn't want to shit himself in a diaper. Doesn't mean you have to freak out and race him inside but give the kid a break and take him to the bathroom.

It's hard getting your timing right as a kid. Sometimes that shit literally sneaks up on you.

I guess everything came out alright tho in the end

Debunking MSG myth

Sagemind says...

Well.., I guess the thing here is to define "Safe to eat" because many of my family members and friends "DO NOT" find it safe to eat.
Including nausea, stomach cramping and diarrhea and sometimes vomiting.

1). Is MSG the same as salt?

No. MSG is made from water, sodium and glutamate. Table salt is made from sodium and chloride.

2). Is MSG safe to eat?

Yes. According to Health Canada, MSG is not a health hazard.

BUT some people may have a sensitivity to MSG. It is the glutamate part of MSG that can produce symptoms such as:

Blurred vision
Tingling and/or burning sensation
Chills and shakes
Feeling of pressure on the face
Headache
Increased heartbeat
Nausea and vomiting
Pain in the face, back, neck or chest

These common symptoms of MSG sensitivity are generally temporary and can appear about 20 minutes after eating MSG and last for about two hours. The symptoms seem to happen faster and are more severe if you eat MSG-containing foods on an empty stomach or drink alcohol at the same time.

Son Buys Mom Her Dream Car

SquidCap says...

Well... My mom filled out a raffle ticket on my name when i was two, we won a SAAB 96 and traded it for this model, 99. Almost the same color (metallic paint was for US export model...). My family kept it for 25 years, it served us really well. I learned to drive with it and that thing handles like a dream (it has heavy steering but is is so stable and responsive, just wonderful, plus ours had aftermarket short gearbox from police unit and bored cylinders, small tweaks to oomph the torque for caravan use. Finnish police used SAAB for a loong time, it accelerated like a rocket..).

Seeing the inside of that just brings me memories. Mom, Dad, my big brother and me and a full sized double bass, all inside (you can't transport it outside when it's freezing, the thing can explode..). It meant that i had to ride shotgun, seat fully front and back against the front door, head on dashboard. Backseat folded and mom and bro at the back, equally cramped. We used to say that first comes the bass, then the family if they fit in and there is always room in the boot (joke.. ). The day he started to play cello was a blessing and a curse. Have you ever had to live with a person that learns to play cello? It's horrible but i paid him back when i got full blown PA in my room, cabinets from floor to ceiling.. Musicians family is always a bit eccentric and weird..

My dad still has SAAB (fourth one) as they are just amazing to drive, handles winter conditions like nothing and are great for long roadtrips. I just hope i can get him the Citroen CX he has wanted from his teens...

That does not look too fun for the live studio audience. 2 out 3 stages cramp your neck.
And does the musical band perform out on the side there? Depressing.

Mom Tries to Teach Adorable Girl Life Lesson

spawnflagger jokingly says...

This is an important lesson - if you eat cookies and ice cream, then go swimming, you'll cramp up and drown.

Remember kids, always wait 30 minutes after eating before you go swimming.

Babymetal: J-pop-metal crossover

SPEAK ENGLISH OR DIE

Yellow Machinegun anyone? They don't always wear the school girl thing, but the first album I owned of theirs featured them wearing schoolgirl outfits and SCREAMING!

This ain't new or news. Lamer, poppier version of something that's been around for more than 20 years.

My wife works in fashion, designs for Urban Outfitters, PacSun, Roxy, Quicksilver, etc. etc. Your girlfriend or wife probably owns either a handbag or an article of clothing designed by her. The styles and trends that are in take us all the way back to Cramps/Misfits/Rocky Horror fashion sense, amalgamated with '90s nihilism and modern pop (often hip hop, but in the case here, J Pop) trends.

Nothing new is happening and that makes it SOOOOOO much easier to anticipate the trends and succeed in making people think something "new" is on the horizon. lol

Fix Your Posture with This Animated Guide to Sitting Right

CreamK says...

Our school got these nice "ergonomic" chairs.. Man they are awful, there's no lock, there's a spring and in order to stay in good posture, you have to simultaneously keep your self up, lean on your elbows and push back.. When you lean forward the back support follows you and pushes slowly you to the edge of your seat and when you lean back it's like you got nothing there and the whole thing feels like it's gonne capsize. It's simultaneously too stiff and too soft. It takes about 2 hours and i get back cramps.. And they claim they are super healthy as you can't relax.. If i ever meet the guy who designed those, i'm gonna kick him in the nuts. I'll take my gaming chair anyday..

Hollie McNish - Embarrassed (Breastfeeding In Public)

spawnflagger says...

I really don't think twice when I see an African lady breastfeeding her child in some documentary, but agree it seems awkward to see white women breastfeeding in cities. Although I notice more and more public places and office buildings are getting breastfeeding rooms adjacent to the public bathrooms, not sure about UK though.

Are all public womens bathrooms in the UK cramped and smelling of piss?
