Griffon carves a life-sized Majora's Mask... with chainsaws

radx says...

In the comment section, Griffon said it would actually have been easier to do it in one piece, but also much more fragile.

I'm actually disappointed it's not one piece, spikes included. That would be much harder.

VideoSift v6 (VS6) Beta Video Page (Sift Talk Post)

gorillaman says...

Well I don't entirely hate it, which is my usual reaction to change.

There's very little wasted space. It's much less cluttered and pretty intuitive; I thought I'd stumbled onto the mobile site by accident when I first saw it.

Not sure about the suggested videos - looks like you're just going to keep seeing the same ones from popular channels again and again. There's less space for the comments section which is surely bad. The various big buttons for facebook, twitter, etc. are garbage but I'll just adblock them. You can't see a video's channels and tags on its page or who's voted for it.

Putting a feed from the recent comments and the lounge in the discuss tab is big nifty. The minimised footer is a colossal improvement.

Baffled by Stupidity: Richard Dawkins

Engels says...

Well, its a pretty deep topic, that can't really be relegated to the comment section of a video hosting site, but just briefly, your first fallacy is that 'he sent himself to be tortured'. Humans tortured and killed Christ according to the story. You can dismiss this as stating that mankind is God's creation so its all some sort of torture circle jerk, but you missed the important element of free will, and that's the critical distinction. Man wouldn't need saving if man is just a puppet of a deity. There's all sorts of other things, including a pretty cursory understanding of the trinity that to me indicates that Hitchens spent too much of his life on the defensive against what he perceived, perhaps justifiably so, as a hostile religious society.

Care to explain where you think he's wrong?
What he said as I heard it is what I've always been told by christians...god, Jesus, and the holy ghost are the same thing...and so god sent himself to earth to torture himself for the sins of humanity that he himself created (both humanity and the sin).
Exactly what part of that is wrong? (not glib, flippant, or immature, just a straight question)

Conservative Christian mom attempts to disprove evolution

heropsycho says...

I love reading a comment section with religious people who back up their views with religion and weak scientific evidence to back up their points, and secularists who back up their arguments with scientific evidence with little to no religious evidence. It's the stuff that epic battles are made of.

It's interesting because both sides should already know they're not able to convince the other, yet both believe the other's evidence contradicts each other, and is often willing to use evidence from the other side to prove the contradiction when they don't fully understand what that evidence actually says or means. Although, in this case, kudos to the secularists who didn't give a rat's ass what the bible says and didn't try to use it.

Why Christians try to prove or disprove anything to secularists or scientists with biblical evidence, I'll never know.

"Stupidity of American Voter," critical to passing Obamacare

shinyblurry says...

I was clear from the beginning that I came to lend a Christian voice to the sift. I enjoyed videosift and had been using it for some time before I created an account. I registered an account specifically because of the number of anti-christian videos that I was noticing were hitting the top ten. I wanted to engage with the people here over the topic of Christianity because the sift was, and primarily still is, an echo chamber for the worldview of secular humanism. That's the way the sift likes it, and the sift is intolerant of any voice which challenges that viewpoint. Period, end of story.

There's nothing wrong with my coming to represent Christ, here. Have I utterly failed to do so? Yes, most definitely. However, it is up to me how I want to use this site. I have commented here almost exclusively on religious topics, either on my videos or someone elses it. Occasionally I will comment on a political video or something else, but usually only on religious topics. The point being is that, that is the way I have chosen to use this site. I don't run around and dictate to anyone else how they could or should use the sift, so why should I be singled out? I didn't cause any material harm to anyone, I wasn't off topic, I didn't flout the rules. I was on topic on the videos I commented on, and I brought a Christian viewpoint to the discussion. The sift, being inhabited primarily by atheists, agnostics and anti-theists, utterly rejects that viewpoint. It's not any different if I were to go to the comments section of any major website and say anything positive about Christianity. I would instantly get 2 to 3 comments mocking everything I said.

I stated in my post that I realized that bringing a Christian viewpoint to the sift would get me a lot of flak. I didn't always react well to that, and I acted like a jerk at times. I am sorry for that. I could have done more to build relationships here and I never put in the time. There is some truth to what you have said, that I brought the way I was treated on myself. But your rant is also a product of the simplistic and distorted lens that you view me through. I mean, you on one hand call my treatment here a persecution fantasy and on the other hand say I brought it upon myself. That's just intellectual dishonesty, pure and simply. The truth is, there was a concerted campaign to deny my participation on this site, and whatever you think the reason may be, it did happen.

As to the video, if this video was of a senior consultant from the Bush administration admitting that they systemically deceived the American people this would be #1 on the sift. You're deceiving yourself if you think that the reason this video is being suppressed is due to anything other than the ideological bent of the sift.

Colbert interviews Anita Sarkeesian

I think we have a lot of deluded posters here that are unaware of just how much propaganda we're inundated with in the democratic world. In a democracy you have to propagandize to people in order to get them to do what you want. You don't have a tyranny and a big stick to force them, you have to "Manufacture Consent" or the bewildered herd.

So what some people are doing is pointing out rightly that what is portrayed in media is up for criticism. The fact that some women have done it and are being driven from their homes by threats is a travesty. And it's pathetic to see whatever lame defenses the people in this comment section have come up with.

I've tried very hard to stay out of this GamerGate bullshit because frankly people are just stupid, even when they think they're being even handed about it. Apparently context means nothing to those who are privileged, yes that's you.

Elite: Dangerous - Beta 3

Retroboy says...

Reading this comment section, I have discovered that videosift is chock full of gaming nerds that throw massive scads of their money away on weird single-purpose user interface devices and appliances, massively overpriced consoles, and horribly over-upgraded personal computer versions. And this solely for the purpose of further enmeshing themselves in virtual forms of time-wasting entertainment at a slightly higher framerate.

Canadian here. Our national news coverage on CBC has a comments section that is... terrifying. The top 3 liked comments are all decrying the Canadian Prime Minister for causing this and making Canada a target through his participation in the fight against ISIL. Are people truly that stupid or are there troll bots upvoting stuff like that?

Real Time with Bill Maher - Racism in America

I've talked about race a lot before on here so I don't really see the point in weighing in on this 'White America' stuff. I'd just like people to look at the youtube comment section on here. Just take a moment and look at what people say when they're anonymous and they don't feel like they're part of a community, like we are here.

Best way I've found is the ImprovedTube extension for Chrome:
http://www.improvedtube.com/

Can disable annotations, turn on/off autoplay, automatically force the quality to a setting that you want, hide the comments section, etc. Some of the settings are buggy (autoplay off for me works MOST of the time but not all), but the annotations part is solid in my experience.

I hate bloody annotations also.

Israel-Palestine: Russell Brand tears down Sean Hannity

mtadd says...

Russell provided a good deconstruction of Hannity's tactics to further Fox News' propaganda campaign. In the follow up in the sift's comments section, its ironic to learn that the Israel army has basically turned Gaza into a concentration camp for Palestinians.
