BBC Brilliant Wrap Up Of Rio 2016 Olympics

Yeah I know what generation is to blame for this, this hyper-editing was a lazy go-to cliche before the end of MTV's first year in 1981.

By the way, me band sucked after 1993's Zooropa so I disown anything that came after that. Including that song and video. But the pay is still good.

It's called the "MTV Generation", Bono. Here, stare at yourself for a little bit, that'll make it all feel better: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=co6WMzDOh1o

Bill Maher: Julian Assange Interview

bareboards2 says...

This need for folks to be squeaky clean is, excuse me, childish.

Good lord. Look at all the cliches there are around politics. It's a dirty business. Has been forever.

What HAS been said repeatedly, including in this clip, is that THERE IS NOTHING THERE.

I LOVED seeing asshat WikiLeak McFuckface squirm when Maher asked him to discuss the difference between transparency and privacy.

So many "let the system blow up" people are often fierce about privacy issues -- until it suits them to not care about it.

Those emails had nothing. People being people in private convos between co-workers.

Unarmed Man Laying On Ground With Hands in Air Shot

Jinx says...

Oh, my apologies.

Sorry. Its just... heh... when you wrote "...and actually appropriate IMO" about the killing of cops I somehow thought you were sort of condoning killing cops. Or like, when you said "I have zero sympathy for recently murdered cops" I thought you were dehumanising them, like, just a lil bit. So, you know, I suppose I sort of jumped to this conclusion that you're a bit twisted.

Do you honestly think that more dead cops fixes this? It's kind of a cliche, but ever heard of the "cycle of violence"? You know, "hate begets hate" kind of thing?

In regards to this video...honestly I've no idea. I don't believe that he intended to shoot him or that it was premeditated...but then the level of incompetence required to pull this off without malice is equally unbelievable. I can only speculate that they cuffed him, even after it should have been easily apparent to them they had really badly fucked up, to treat him consistently so that they could later claim they'd acted in self defence.

If someone had said that, it would be disgusting. Police actions are saying that, not me.
Shame on you for being a liar. You 'quoted' something no one wrote, that's telling a lie.

Bill Burr - UFC 168

ChaosEngine says...

I honestly don't get what people see in Bill Burr.

He just comes across as an asshole. But worse, he's not even that funny about it. His humour is cliched and obvious.

Not saying anyone is wrong for liking him, he just does nothing for me.

Rolls Royce New Space Age Car

STAR TREK BEYOND Official Trailer #2 (2016)

FlowersInHisHair says...

Well that's pretty patronising. I'll disabuse you of your misapprehension: I'm a lifelong fan. I've seen all of the series and all of the films. I understand Star Trek pretty fucking well. I think that what you don't understand is that these things are subjective.

I think the TNG films are horrid. Tired, clichéd, uninspired revenge plots that don't represent the TNG TV series or Roddenberry's ethos at all, and as you say, with an emphasis on irrelevant space action and some pretty egregious plot holes. And they are boring, which Roddenberry-era Trek never was, even at its most talky. It's not just the writing and production - half the time the actors are basically sleepwalking their way through the films, and are often completely different characterisations from their TV show incarnations (particularly Picard in First Contact).

That I prefer this trailer over the TNG films isn't so much praise for Beyond as disdain for the lazy work presented from Generations onwards.

Dragons - Overwatch Animated Short

Jinx says...

What utter tosh.

I enjoyed the open beta and I'm looking forward to release, but ohmygod if they could please inject just a little humour into these characters instead of these angsty seriousface dullard cliches... They aint all like that, but characters called "Reaper" that mumble things like "Death Comes" are totally inexcusable unless you are 12yrs old.

Dragons - Overwatch Animated Short

artician says...

This is showcasing the New Generic. Blizzard used to push the boundaries for hyper-realism in CG, but everything from designs to animations in this is wrapped tightly in a security-blanket of technical and conceptual cliche.

Sign of the times, but I'm still filing a formal complaint...

Free, White and 21: Buried Catchphrase of Classic Hollywood

ulysses1904 jokingly says...

Apparently back then catchphrases lasted a decade, whereas memes become cliches before the paint is even dry.

Let's watch as some SJWs petition to have all these movies recalled and edited. I've been waiting for someone to make a big deal about Elmer Fudd in drag in "The Big Snooze", because somebody's feelings might be hurt by the irreverent depiction of a guy in a dress. Same for "Some like it Hot".

Upvote for not using drone tropes/cliches alone, on top of all the skill.
