Baby elephant causes havoc at home

enoch says...

@Oxen_Morale
yeah..i am struggling to see how this is a liberal thing.
this is about saving a baby elephant that would have otherwise perished.

this is admirable.

the simple fact is that this woman made a choice and realized the consequences and decided those consequences were acceptable.

should she just have left the baby to die? while having the resources, time and patience to nurture this baby elephant to health, and possible giving it a happy life?

i have saved:baby squirrels, muskrats, racoons, rats and adopted countless puppies, kittens and even birds on occasion.

should i have left them to perish as well?

i think your snap judgement was not very well-thought out.

were you aware there are elephant sanctuaries that accept retired circus elephants and former zoo elephants?

i bet this lady knows about them.so while your concern about this babies future is admirable, this woman knows what she is doing.

Christopher Hitchens on Hillary Clinton

RFlagg says...

Yeah, I'd love to hear him on Trump and Cruz...I think he'd be all about Sanders. He blasted the Tea Party, so we can be fairly sure he'd be blasting the leaders of the current field. He'd probably admire that Trump is at least honest enough to say what he wants without a filter, but also reflect how dangerous it is that his views are so accepted among a scary percentage of Americans. How if Trump, or even Cruz, get's elected, it would isolate the US from our allies. They are still upset about Bush, and going that far to the right would endanger our relationships with all of them, save perhaps Israel, which is all the Christian right care about anyhow. He'd be giving a Hitch Slap to the media for the way they are following the Trump circus just for ratings, and building up Clinton while largely ignoring Sanders. Of course the political right would use that people like Hitchens would support Sanders and reason enough to ignore and fear him. "That demonic Atheist supports Sanders, so that's what you get with a vote for Sanders. Satanism wrapped up in the disguise of Atheism... and we all know that every knee will bow and every tongue confess, and we know they honestly do believe, but are just mad at God about something and trying to turn others against him", or something along those lines.

Bernie's New Ad. This is powerful stuff for the Heartland

JustSaying says...

I like Bernie and it's not just because he's the fusion of two of my favourite Sesame Street characters. He seems reasonable and less corrupt. But this ad? Meh.
Maybe it's because I enjoy the idiot circus boy too much.

Trump China

Retroboy says...

The world today seems absolutely crackers,
With nuclear bombs to blow us all sky high.
There's fools and idiots sitting on the trigger.
It's depressing and it's senseless, and that's why...
I like Chinese.
I like Chinese.
They only come up to your knees,
Yet they're always friendly, and they're ready to please.

I like Chinese.
I like Chinese.
There's nine hundred million of them in the world today.
You'd better learn to like them; that's what I say.

I like Chinese.
I like Chinese.
They come from a long way overseas,
But they're cute and they're cuddly, and they're ready to please.

I like Chinese food.
The waiters never are rude.
Think of the many things they've done to impress.
There's Maoism, Taoism, I Ching, and Chess.

So I like Chinese.
I like Chinese.
I like their tiny little trees,
Their Zen, their ping-pong, their yin, and yang-ese.

I like Chinese thought,
The wisdom that Confucious taught.
If Darwin is anything to shout about,
The Chinese will survive us all without any doubt.

So, I like Chinese.
I like Chinese.
They only come up to your knees,
Yet they're wise and they're witty, and they're ready to please

Canada vs. USA -- Debates

CrushBug says...

It's not quite a fair comparison. The Canadian one is of currently elected officials. That US thing is for leadership of one party, if I understand correctly. Those always seem to be a bit of a circus.

One of the Best Press Conferences Ever - Marshawn Lynch

sixshot says...

While I can understand the angst against the media because the media is often at fault for misinterpretation and twisting words that people say, what I don't understand is why is there a media requirement? Is that slapped in some contract that he signed that he wasn't aware of until someone poked around at it? Or is it some general NFL "obligation" that they impose upon the players (and against their wills no less?) just to make all of this a media circus and farce?

I have nothing but respect for Lynch for doing what he does. Just wish there's an answer as to why this is an "obligation."

The blind leading those with sight...

That is what this feels like at certain moments.

I also hope that if they force someone to give birth, they at the least find out if: the mother can provide at all for the child or is even mentally prepared for it too, if the child needs to be put up for adoption and making sure it happens (follow through; plus making sure the child gets to a good household), possible payment of medical procedures and check-ups...as this is forced, and quite a few more things I won't get into here--I listed the biggest ones.

What a circus.

What are those floaty things in your eye? (TED-Ed lesson)

deathcow says...

Mine are like this in both eyes:
http://www.barransclass.com/phys1090/circus/Gillespie_B/EyeFloaters2.jpg

I got them all 15 years ago when an insanely powerful flash discharged right in front of my eyes. (INSTANT pain ON) Over the next few days my eyes filled with them.

When I look at highly collimated light (like a powerful view in a microscope or telescope) I can see ALLLLL of them swimming in 3D.

A bright sunny day blue sky is like looking through egg whites.

7 year old Hockey Sniper snuffs out 3 candles

vil says...

Skillful as in skillful editing.

Theoretically the whole circus act could almost be pulled off with lighter than normal pucks, allowing the puck trajectory of the first and third shots and a quick wrist shot 2nd (which is very ulikely for a 7yo). In any case the pickup before the juggling looks all wrong - could have conceivably been done with a ball just to make the editing easier.

Take a look at something like this
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gLamA97C14A
to compare the stick and skating skills and puck physics of a more probably real 7yo without the drama.
