The Down-Tuning Experiment

SquidCap says...

C or B, that's the lowest you can go with 22/24 fret guitar.. After that you need to start extending neck to get intonation right and you lose more attack the lower you go. Not to mention that B is ~60Hz, pretty much everything below that don't form decent chords specially with heavy distortion. I have drop B tuning (B-F#-B-E-A-C#) on same looking sunburst Fender strato '80 and i've already run out of room fix intonation (thank goodness for my Rockinger Tremolo bridge circa '81 and it's flexibility..)

Women are conditioned to hide. So this is a physical as well as emotional "disrobing." At least, that is how I interpreted it.

There are other women who have exposed their differences fully as they answered questions. Those vids follow the same format.

One of those murky, psychological things that either strike a chord with you or don't. I think.

This struck a chord with me.

I thought what she had to say was interesting, and I would've been fine with just her sitting on the stool talking. I'm not 100% sure I understand the point of the disrobing--I mean, I get it from a metaphorical standpoint, but from an actual point of view, it doesn't seem to accomplish much.

Why People REALLY Hate Nickleback

Payback says...

I've seen a fair share of crap make it to top spot, here on the Sift, so don't get all elitist about the maturity level in here. Bewbs, cats, and Louis CK all have a dubious percentage of votes in here.

...but honestly, as with most "internet communities" I'm here for the people. Places like Reddit and Youtube itself are just too full of vitriol and verbal diarrhea for my liking. Far too many saying far too little.

My dislike of this person's video has more to do with it's judgmental nature. I really dislike people who put down others over something so esoteric and subjective as music taste. The "Pop" in pop music is short for "Popular". Hating on something for no other real reason than a lot of people like it is douchebaggery at it's most stereotypical extreme.

There's only one Nickelback song I like, so I'm not a fanboi. I have to say though, the fact they are still selling records and and concert tickets kinda proves this guy wrong. They have "struck a chord" with quite a few people. Otherwise, they would have been a one-hit-wonder like the chick down the street from them, Carly Rae Jepsen.

Music doesn't have to be well written, or well performed to be popular, people just have to like it.

You visit Videosift (theoretically) because it sifts through the bullshit videos on the internet and gives you videos of merit. How is the aversion to heavily marketed BS such a seemingly unfamiliar concept to you?

Canadian Man Finds Moose Calf, Takes It to Tim Hortons

newtboy says...

Sadly no, I saw this on the news and they reported that the mother was killed (didn't say how, probably hit by a car) right after or even during birth. When found, the infant was still wet (you can hear him say so in the video) and had the umbilical chord attached, alone on the road. Sorry to be a Debbie Downer.

Kids Cover "46 and 2" By Tool and Kill It

chingalera says...

Her voice is still developing, she's not holding-back, those vocal chords are a work-in-progress mate, she's barely 15 yet-

Asmo said:

Yeah, not an unfair comment. Don't know if she's deliberately restraining herself or just a bit unsure, but it still rocks.

I can understand picking Tool as a school project though, their music is so multi faceted and involved (not to mention the sheer number of instruments and effects used to create their sound), featuring some really wacky timings etc (Lateralus) that it probably constitutes a master class... =)

Two brothers make awesome best man video

lucky760 says...

Lyrics:

He is your brother.
And just because he's older,
He will always try to boss you.
No matter what you do,
You must obey him!

He is your brother.
And just because he's younger,
You will learn to tell your fists no,
When he beats you on Nintendo.
Do not hit him!

Ahhhhhhhhh
Don't leave us,
You are our jesus.
But you look like mother.
Don't want to lose you,
To another.

Ahhhhhhhhh
Don't leave us,
You are our jesus.
She maybe your lover,
But do not forget,
You are our brother!

You were a loser,
Your haircut was a mullet.
You could not play the bassoon,
You had a dark blue bedroom,
What were you thinking?!

You also had a mullet!
I was always the cool one.
I was the budding rock star,
I'm awesome at the guitar....
...But you work for me now!

Ahhhhhhhhh
Don't leave us,
You are our jesus.
But you look like mother.
Don't want to lose you,
To another.

Ahhhhhhhhh
Don't leave us,
You are our jesus.
She maybe your lover,
But do not forget,
You are our brother!

You were working as a salesman,
In a homeware & design store.
You only ever wore black,
Your life was made of Habitat.
You were lonely.
Ooooooooooohhhhhhhhh

That was when you met her,
Though you would never tell us.
But then we finally guessed it,
Out came your dirty secret -
You loved your boss!
Ooooooooooohhhhhhhhh
You loved your boss!!!

You are my brother.
Just look how far you've come now.
I used to change your nappy,
Now you're old & saggy,
Fat like Paddy.

You are my brother.
I always looked up to you.
But now to me it's quite weird,
Cause you have hair & a beard,
Just like our Daddy.

Ahhhhhhhhh
Don't leave us,
You are our jesus.
But you look like mother.
Don't want to lose you,
To another.

Ahhhhhhhhh
Don't leave us,
You are our jesus.
She maybe your lover,
But do not forget,
You are our brother!

@silvercord-Always was a head of my time...
Srsly tho, I give it up to J,P,G,&R because the Beatles Anthology was my primmer for self-discovery guitar chord drills from age 12-13-Learned a lot from these guys, like singing in harmony ever-so-slightly and consistently flat with impeccable timing sells gajillions of records if you can write catchy tunes...

TEDTalks | Beardyman: The polyphonic me

criticalthud says...

vocal chords are an oscillation that creates a frequency, as is a guitar string or a sax reed. hence the waveforms are similar. then just fuck with it with delays, pitch shifting, compression, phasing, and all manners of eq.

World's largest eagle attacks Kittiwake birds

rich_magnet says...

Largest bird? Sort of. According to wikipedia:

Steller's Sea-eagle is the biggest bird in the genus Haliaeetus and is one of the largest raptors overall. Females typically weigh from 6.8 to 9 kilograms (15 to 20 lb; 1.07 to 1.4 st), while males are rather lighter with a weight range from 4.9 to 6 kilograms (11 to 13 lb; 0.77 to 0.94 st).[3] At its average weight, the Steller's outweighs both the average Harpy and the average Philippine Eagles by over 0.5 kilograms (1.1 lb; 0.079 st).[3]
...
The Steller's sea eagle has the second largest median wingspan of any eagle.[3] Both the wing chord and wingspan, at an average of 2.13 m (7.0 ft), are similar or slightly smaller than to those of the Steller's close relative, the White-tailed Eagle (Haliaeetus albicilla), which is rather smaller in both weight and total length.[3]
...
The bill is very large. In fact, the skull (at around 14.6 cm (5.7 in)) and the culmen (at around 7 cm (2.8 in)) of the Steller's Sea Eagle are the largest of any eagle and are comparable in size to those of the largest accipitrids, the Old World vultures.[7][8]
