Drive - Climactic Car Chase

ChaosEngine says...

>> ^LukinStone:

Boo. You know what would have made this movie great? Car chases. 1:38 is about right to show you nearly all it had to offer. There's a good one at the very beginning and this one near the end. The entire film is terribly paced. Really over the top violence kicks in way too late, to the point where folks in the theater I saw it in were laughing.
You want good car chases (an not a bad film overall), rent "Ronin."
Oh, and while I'm at it, the new "Gone in 60 seconds" also had crap car chases. The movie consisted of characters looking at cars, admiring them, then cutting to the scene after they stole them. Lame.
Sorry, a pet peeve.

yeah, you should sue them.

I don't really think the car chases were the point of Drive. FWIW, I thought it was a really good movie.

You're right about Ronin, though. Best car chase ever committed to film. Although "Bullitt" is a close second, mainly because Steve McQueen is god.

Which Sports Car Are You? (Wheels Talk Post)

the quiz said i was a Mercedes SLK. but it's wrong. dig ragtops, but too showy.
the 3 cars i grew up obsessed with were:

lamborghini countach - never wanted to actually own one, mind you. terribly impractical. so, not really 'me', but, from a design museum perspective? bitchin'.

1973 XB GT Ford Falcon Coupe - first car i searched for yesterday, to rechannel into * wheels.
better known as, the last of the V8 interceptors... woulda' been a shame to blow it up.
sorta' the yin to lambo's yang, though, so... not really 'me'.

i'd have to go with door #3: the mustang.

Best Car Chase on Film. (Cinema Talk Post)

Payback says...

I will always pick Bullitt as certain scenes, such as when you see Bullit come over the hill behind the Dodge, are filmed as you see it. The shot was of the actual rearview mirror, in the actual car, with the actual driver in the shot, and the Mustang perfectly framed. No cut and paste, no camera tricks. It's the pure truth of it. Steve McQueen drives the Mustang except for the most risky of the stunts, while Hickman is driving the Charger. It's the closest to true I've seen.

I discount the Gone in 60 Seconds original movie as you've never heard of the guy and actually driving like that out in general public is just stupid.

my top 5:

Bullitt - look at the chase scene camerawork, before & after, this film. it's a little like watching buddy action movies, before & after Lethal Weapon.

French Connection - you have no idea, what it took, for that scene to be filmed. unless you DO know what it took, which is like 5 ppl here including me, in which case you know what i'm sayin'.

To Live And Die In L.A. - Friedkin does it again.

any chase scene from any of the Mad Max flicks

Blues Brothers - also funniest chase scenes ever

The Blues Brothers--Police Car Chase Finale

firefly says...

I was going to go with a whole "classic car chases" theme (for example: The French Connection, Bullitt, The Italian Job (1969), but the Blues Brothers is the one I enjoyed most, and I decided just to stick with this one.
As far as newer movies go, The Transporter, Ronin, and The Rock had pretty good ones. I'm sure other 'sifters have their favorites...
