F-35 Lightning II: Busting Myths

Khufu says...

This is controlled by software, which can be tweaked... the whole point of having test pilots fly the thing. These jets are fly-by-wire as they are bricks-in-the-sky compared to a standard plane so they need automated assistance to fly the plane like 'arcade' mode in a video game. And if you've ever beta-tested a flight-sim you'll know they start off shit and eventually get better as they are refined.

OK, so this is supposed to be convincing us that the plane works?...but they do admit that it can take numerous seconds between rudder input and response by the plane....my RC glider is more responsive than that.

Honey Bee Removes Nail From Brick Wall

Guy probably put the nail in there to prevent the bee from getting behind the brick veneer. Looks like a roofing nail which is very light but still impressive!

Big Boobs Problems

newtboy says...

Nope. not HER difficulty in buying a sports bra.
"There's no way it's going to be cute (she says as she pulls it down to expose cleavage)...and fit....and get the job done."
What SHE'S complaining about is all about showing off.

And the problem of men staring AT YOUR CLEAVAGE goes away if you don't EXPOSE YOUR CLEAVAGE! Imagine that!
Perhaps many still look at your boobs, but men look at boobs, large or small. That's why they came up with 'Curves'. It's not only an issue for brick houses.

nanrod said:

I thought that for some but not all. The difficulty in buying sports and regular bras has nothing to do with showing off. And the problem of people staring at the gym does not go away even if you completely cover up.

Super Trolling: Rickrolling with fake parking tickets

newtboy says...

Ahhh, OK. I thought they acted like a link and would just take you directly to a website.
Perhaps things have changed. I've been computing for decades, and it at least USED to be the case that you could be infected simply by opening a malicious web page. Since I have banked and shopped on my PC, I'm overly cautious to not get infected, and don't just assume that old security holes are plugged. That means not going to links I don't recognize, not installing software I don't need or know exactly what I'm installing and where it comes from, and never opening emails from people I don't know.
Even with all that paranoia, I've had attacks that froze my computer and demanded money to unfreeze it, and that somehow remained in effect after restarts, like it somehow installed itself into my startup file. I did not install anything those times, simply opened a web page that was (apparently) infected and was attacked. For many people, these attacks work and their computers are bricked and they are blackmailed. Had I not known how to clear my temporary files, including hidden files, and clean out my startup folder, I would have a dead PC. One instance required me to completely wipe and re-install windows to remove the infection, as it wouldn't boot up at all.
That's why I also backup all my files on a memory stick that remains unplugged.

Being paranoid, I may go a bit farther than I need to, but better safe than sorry. I can't afford to have my identity stolen or my PC bricked.

Ehang184-chinese unveil new passenger drone prototype

Drachen_Jager says...

You forgot "Made in China" not a label to inspire confidence. If it were made in Germany, I'm sure a lot more people would believe in the safety features, but honestly, I think the reason it's NOT made in Germany is that it's inherently impossible to design such a vehicle to actually be safe.

1 blade breaks (bird strike?) 1 motor fails, ANYTHING goes wrong with the software or hardware, structural failures, hell, even the passenger shifting rapidly in their seat could cause this thing to fall out of the air like a brick.

They seem to think if they repeat "absolute safety by design" often enough somebody will believe it, but the video does absolutely nothing to show what they've done to actually make the thing safe.

I have a new tag line for them:

"Absolutely safe, just like Chinese-made hoverboards!"

Ehang184-chinese unveil new passenger drone prototype

EMPIRE says...

"Absolute safety by design"

- open props and the passenger has to pass between them to get into the cockpit. all it takes is a false ignition or some other mistake after it lands , and the person is cut in half.

- drone design. just one of the 4 engines fails, and that shit drops to the ground like a brick, because it has no gliding properties and it can't autorotate like a helicopter or gyro, and at the height it will operate, I doubt a parachute would be of any use.

yeaaaahh... Not really anxious to try one out

Man Builds a Modern House in a Cave

Asmo says...

Seems more like an investment thing than a permanent residence.

On the plus side, once he passes away they can just brick it up for instant tomb...

newtboy said:

This seems like a terrible idea for someone with MS. Once/if his disease progresses, he won't be able to get to or from his own home. I didn't see ramps.
It's impressive that he managed to do it himself, but it doesn't seem like he's being honest with himself about his condition. I'll hope he gets a chance to enjoy it before he can't.

Two Power Plant Chimneys Take Each Other Out

Payback says...

I believe the chimneys were constructed in stages, only building up X layers of brick per day. The impact probably popped loose at the daily starting layer because the other layers would be continuous lays and possibly stronger.

That being said, the covered area out back went off sometime later than those, so your impressive timed explosives are possible too.

Jinx said:

Pfft, yeah, how many takes was that tho?

Were those were more explosives rigged around the chimney when they two collide or just bits n pieces knocked out of the seams?- If the former I want to know how they were triggered cos if they were just on a delay fuse or something that's kinda impressive.
