I Absolutely Like This!

Total Recall 2012 Teaser Trailer

therealblankman says...

I really hope this doesn't suck. The thing about Philip K. Dick's writing is that it's smart. He asks big and interesting questions and presents them in exciting but though-provoking scenarios. Most adaptations of his work have been straight-up action flicks, which are usually terrible. The Schwarzenegger version was actually one of the better ones, but the big questions are overshadowed by the fact that it's an Arnold movie, with all that entails.

The gold standard is still Blade Runner, and that's the stick by which I'll be measuring this film.

Like I said, I hope it doesn't suck.

When I saw the first teaser I was absolutely thrilled. Now, after seeing the full trailer doubts begin to creep in.
I keep remembering that Ridley Scott not only directed Alien and Blade Runner, but also gave us Kingdom Of Heavens, Hannibal, 1492.....and G.I.Jane.

The other thing that does not sit right with this trailer is the old (and stupid) aliens inspired/founded/visited/created all the ancient civilizations on earthe story that
a) remind me too much of Alianes vs. Predators and
b) does simply not fit in with the tone of Alien/s/³/4.

I keep my fingers crossed for a great movie.

Meh...just another monster flick with a huge FX budget and crappy story.

Stay home and play XBox, then.

Alien, Blade Runner, Gladiator, Kingdom of Heaven, et al... I'll take my chances that this is gonna be yet another incredible movie from Ridley Scott. I don't go out to see a lot of movies nowadays, but once in a while one comes along that begs to be seen on the big screen. This ain't no "Transformers" or "Twilight" tripe. Can't wait to see it.

Yep - there's some good ones in there. It could be a good year for SF. Duncan Jones - director of Moon is also working on a Bladerunner homage! http://www.firstshowing.net/2011/duncan-jones-mute-stalled-but-homage-to-blade-runner-is-next/>> ^garmachi:

Most excited about Prometheus and Cloud Atlas.

This comment sent me on an internet tangent which lasted well over an hour. I wound up about 7 links downstream, shook myself out of the haze and thought "haven't surfed like that since the early days of the net."
Thanks @dag

The alien mythos has already been thoroughly trampled by things like AVP.>> ^Ferazel:

Very, very excited. It's not going to suck - Ridley Scott doesn't make bad movies.

However, he has made a string of very mediocre movies lately. He has definitely become more mainstream as he has matured as a director. He certainly isn't as bold as he was earlier in his career with Alien and Blade Runner. Regardless, Ridley Scott even considering sci-fi again is really all I need to keep living. I still am looking forward to this movie very much regardless of how much it tramples all over the Alien "mythos".

Arnold Schwarzenegger's commentary of Total Recall is ace!

The best DVD commentary I've heard was that of American Beauty, from the director. I learned that I didn't actually know about half of the stuff that was going on in that movie. Things like the shadows created by the vertical blinds in his office evoking prison bars. I LOVE that stuff. >> ^spoco2:

Commentary tracks are the one special feature I don't like, actually those and the stupid 'watch the film with popup behind the scenes snippets'.
I LOVE behind the scenes stuff, but if I want to watch the movie I WANT TO WATCH THE MOVIE. I don't want to half watch a movie, half listen to people talk about the movie. Give me a behind the scenes documentary that shows and tells me about how things were done and you'll have me watch for longer than the running time of the film even (which many of the docos are)
So... yeah, I just don't listen to them.

I don't watch entire movies with commentaries on, but sometimes I'll go back and watch a scene or two with it on. There was on movie that I did watch with the commentary on, Sunshine. I went back to watch one scene like I sometimes do, but the commentary with directory Danny Boyle and Dr. Brian Cox on as the scientific adviser was so damn interesting that I ended up watching the rest of the movie before I knew it. I had to start it back from the beginning with the commentary on and watch back up to that scene.
The special feature I never cared for were the interviews with the actors where they just brown nose and ass kiss the director, producer and other actors.

Oh yeah, the press kit half hour long ad 'making of' 'docos' are terrible. But things like the bonus features on the Lord of the Rings discs, or those on Blade Runner, ooh, or the making of 'The Abyss', that's awesome. That stuff is fascinating to me. I LOVE seeing how movies are made. I just would rather watch a movie OR making of... not a half way house

Blade Runner Tribute

The video authors vimeo webpage says theres a 3 CD remastered soundtrack available. It is a perfect soundtrack for the movie, would love to get it!

I used to own this soundtrack on Cassette, I wish I could find it again on CD. It was great to listen to in the evening or while I was painting...

Well, these are changes to the Special Editions correct? The original versions, also on the set, are still unaltered are they not?

No... NO!

That's the WHOLE problem. The originals ARE NOT on the set. They released them ONCE on DVD (which I bought) as 'special features' along side the special editions.

But guess what they did? They got the dirtiest, worst possible quality prints for the original version and THEN did not present them on dvd as anamorphic. Meaning that if you watch it on a widescreen tv you have to find your settings somewhere to zoom it in and stretch it out. And, of course, that means that
a) It's a pain in the arse, so you never watch them
and
b) They are as low resolution as humanly possible.

He did it to fuck with us.
'Here... here's the old versions you've whinged about... here you go, they're on DVD'
'Um, they are just horrible quality and tiny on my screen, and... I can't watch those'
'Well, watch the lovely Special Editions I forced you buy alongside them then, they're much nicer quality'
'Oh fuck you'

And there will NOT be any versions other than the 'special' editions on the Blu Rays.

Hence, no purchase from me.

I don't give a crap how much he wants to muck around with his movies, but you should ALWAYS be able to get them in their original form in as high quality as possible as well. But he won't do that, because he knows people would rather watch the originals, which would just confirm all the shit he's added to them is unwanted rubbish.

Blade runner shows how to do it right. 5, FIVE versions of the movie on the Blu Ray release I have, all fantastic quality. Watch the original release, or watch Ridley's final cut... YOU have the choice. If you like the voice over, watch it that way and still in wonderful quality.

E3 2011: Prey 2 - Holy goddamn, Blade Runner, anyone?

Unless its a different art director, this game will suck once again. Bethesda just cant make any games with a dense atmosphere.

I agree with what you're saying, but as said they're not making it - if bethesda were, i wouldn't play it.

But as previously stated as well - this video shows absolutely nothing. It's just a cgi film.

idc what you guys say, trailer was amazing

Yeah, this doesn't really reflect on the game, at all. But I'll give this an upvote for being a pretty slick animation.

pros: Awesome environment.
cons: Silly action movie cliches.
