american prison warden visits the norden in norway

enoch says...

@Jerykk
i cant make heads nor tails what you are trying to convey.
are you making an argument for harsher prisons?
or an assertion that if they were less harsh people would WANT to go to prison?
that recidivism is irrelevant so we should just execute prisoners?

i agree that poverty leads to desperation which can lead to criminal activity.there is plenty of statistics to back that up,though interestingly those numbers are dropping in regards to poverty=crime.

as for your deterrence argument.
yeah..no.the numbers obviously dont add up.
right now there are more american citizens incarcerated than the soviet gulags of the 80's.in fact, america incarcerates more citizens per capita than any other nation in the world.

americas prison population=2.4 million..and rising.

which leads me to my next point.
what is the purpose of prison?
well,it should be to remove those violent elements from society and for the offenders who are non-violent a way to pay a debt to the society they betrayed (fill in the offense here ____).

when their time has been served (paid) then they are free to rejoin society and reintegrate themselves back into society.

but what if that system of punishment strips you of all dignity and humanity?treats you like an abandoned dog at the local animal shelter?physically beaten and spiritually shattered, just HOW to you rejoin normal society?

what then?
do you blame the inmate who was thrown into a inhumane system?or maybe..juuuuust maybe..it may be the SYSTEM which is the blame.

let us look at some stats shall we?
the private prison industry is the 9th largest lobbiest in the country.who lobby for stricter sentencing, zero tolerance and mandatory jail time.a new trend in this area is now regarding teens AND pre-teens.they also make contracts with the local government to have a certain % occupancy.(meaning that even if those beds are not filled, the company STILL gets paid).

and lets not forget those kick backs to the local judges.already 25 judges this year got caught with their hand in the cookie jar.

the idea that prison is a deterrence has been debunked.
there are over 5000 federal laws NOT including state and local.so at any given time,in any given day,YOU have perpetrated a federal crime.

the idea the prison is for rehabilitation is utter bullshit, another liberal feel-good "look at the good we are doing" trope.

prison is a business.
based on the mafia principle.
it is about making the poor a commodity and exploiting their lack of resources to fight back.
recidivism?
thats just repeat customers.american prisons care zippo about recidivism.

again i reference the milgram experiment.
treat people like animals and they will soon behave like animals.
treat them with humanity and dignity and the outcome is far more positive for a society as a whole..we ALL benefit.

but the private prisons dont want that..it means less profit for them.

the norden is doing it right and the results are impressive.

So THAT'S why I have a booklet sewn into my backpack!

I think all rabies tags are imprinted with the # of the place that gave the vaccine. The shelter/vet/clinic should be able to retrieve the owners info with the code on the tag. You make a good point in that owners should have their info on a separate tag. All my cats live indoors but my dawgie is tagged with a microchip just in case.
The little dog is lucky to have run into you (literally)!

When/if in the future I get a dog to take care of me it is going to have one of those little booklets autistic people have on their backpacks with a picture of " this is my owner " " This is where I live " " This is my owners contact info "
Lil' doggy with a booklet around its neck.
I am just happy the Animal Shelter was open on Saturday, I honestly would of had to plop it back outside if they were not. I know I am going to get in shit for bringing it into the apartment building ( cameras) but fuck them, I am moving on Monday so they can kiss my bum. I am human, landlords are not.

Well I don't want to come off like a "cynical chicken little" but it sounds as though you're implying I'm not a productive member of society.

In spite of being laid off and not receiving a salary this year; I'm substitute teaching in three different school corporations, I volunteer at a local animal shelter (ARF, Animal Rescue Fund), and I tutor non-traditional students to help them get their GEDs. I don't get compensated the same way that my friend who sells "Accidental Death and Dismemberment" insurance does but meh.

Then again, you could be just continuing your thinly veiled narcissistic nazi troll tantrum.

Either way, I'll be enjoying watching the depths of your hypocrisy continue to blossom as you tout personal freedom and live a life of complacency regarding the powers that be.

Now go pay for your marriage license whore.

Dog Scared of Julia Roberts

Dog rescued after spending 10 years tied to a chain outside

Porksandwich says...

My parents adopted a German Sheppard that had spent the majority of 5 years chained up outside. They threw trash out in his area, cans, glass...he rarely had clean water and I think about as much of the food he ate was trash as it was actual dog food. This was down near my grandmother's property, they started giving him food and water and called the police/animal shelter. That went on for the better part of a year, and they eventually found out that they deemed the dogs living environment suitable because he had food and water every time they checked. Which my parents had been providing to him and they said it didn't matter who gave it to him as long as he had it.

Eventually they convinced someone at the property to give them the dog....and they hadn't had the dog for 2 days when the police showed up to take it back claiming the dog had been stolen. It took another day or so with police witnessing it that they were giving the dog to my parents and they've had him since. His collar had dug into his neck because he'd outgrown it, the tree had grown around his chain, he could barely move 5 feet in any direction. He's about 10 or 11 years old now. He had heart worms when they got him, bad joints although not nearly as bad as the dog in this video, fairly labored breathing due to the heart worms is the best guess, very afraid of lightning they couldn't put him in any sort of structure without him ruining it. He's gotten better about the lightning and behaving more like the other dog they have.

But before his previous owners lost/left their house in 2006-2008 range they had gotten another dog and had a bunch of cats. They of course didn't treat them well and when they lost the house they left most of the animals behind. So now that neighborhood has a huge stray cat problem, and my parents try to keep food and water out for them. I think there is one other person in that neighborhood that even bothers to try to make up for what those people did to those animals by feeding them and keeping water out, plus try to get them neutered so they can't keep breeding.

And I've seen a dog that I can't even guess how old it was chained outside a house, it had a little dog house but it's water bowl wasn't big enough to hold water all day on a hot day. It's horrible, but at some point you just can't call in on every animal problem you see because you'd spend all your time doing that....and the laws are so shitty when it comes to animal cruelty that the person just replaces the animal if someone were to take it.

Legless Cat Ready to Start Another Life

Animal shelters in every state put down thousands of fully able cats everyday.
So why on earth, after having been electrocuted and plummeting 25 feet, would you remove all of a cat limbs in order to "save its life."
Sure it can't walk or feed itself or scratch itself or clean itself or do anything besides on the ground crawl.. but at least it alive. ..right?
Cats and humans don't compare really but put yourself in the same scenario.
Awaking to quadruple amputations, I'd bet you'd have a HUGE smile on your face because you'd be so happy you're still alive. ..right?

Overpopulation: The Making of a Myth

vairetube says...

Idiot Winston. You don't even know what a growth rate is or how to calculate it

READ:

Ideally, GROWTH RATES would be close to 0%.

0% Perfectly sustains the population at a GIVEN MOMENT. NOT A GIVEN SIZE.

I specifically state that growth rate has NOTHING to do with Ideal Size.

Ideal SIZE is a function of the carrying capacity.

You are one dumb son of a bitch, if you didn't know.

Also, Population may be cyclical, but if you look at data collected over time, you see that it is also quite hard, if not impossible, to reliably predict future numbers. Malthus proved why.

So we deal with reality instead. The Reality of RATES OF PRODUCTION AND CAPACITY over RATES of CONSUMPTION. This utilizes data akin to the census. We need to know What is Using What, How Fast, and thus, simply put, decide what we CAN DO about it.

I really do not like you. You've said before you're not QM's alt.... but that seems unlikely. We haven't even gotten into Logistic Growth, and already you display the same lack of familiarity with basic mathematical concepts....you just use outdated perspectives to inform your already outdated opinion... which is a minor accomplishment in itself, so congrats on being Really Worthless and using those feelings of inadequacy for Evil instead of Good.

Go volunteer at the animal shelter -- the dogs don't care who walks them, and you'll be accomplishing something within your means.

Cool Japanese House! Purrrrr (Blog Entry by Issykitty)

"Crazy Cat Lady Wins Lottery, Builds Crazy Cat House"

That wintergarden cage thing would be great for my cats. They'd stop running over to my neighbors terrace and into their living room (sometimes). The downside is having a fugly cage on your terrace. All in all I guess I'm not cat crazy enough to completely reshape my home like that. Plus it doesn't make that much sense for just two cats. Nice idea though, if the animal shelter ever wins the lottery I'd bet they'd make it look like that
