Another Friendly Reminder....It Is Still Broken (Sift Talk Post)

The reasons why hollywood writers have gone on strike

RedSky says...

Where would the passion and angst be in their work though if these writers were being paid well to live luxurious lives?

They'd be like those emergent grass roots metal bands that lose their drive and start pumping out homogeneous nu-metal garbage to a mainstream following.

I want to be cloned (Blog Entry by mlx)

oxdottir says...

I express sympathy. It feels very similar here: work has 5 projects due, kid is having adolescent angst I should deal with, I'm trying to keep to a steady exercise regimen, I would like a tiny bit of social life, I want to watch the videos, and my cat just crapped in my bed.

Personally, my priorities go to crap eviction first. I know most people would then move to cat eviction, but I love the furry tyrant, and he's perfect in all other ways.

Three Days Grace: I Hate Everything About You

Crackerbox Palace-George Harrison

This viddy rocks, this song rocks, all you youngsters got ripped-off, yer childhoods tainted by gangster rap, vapid pop, and angst-ridden "alternative" poo-poo......not to mention the complete prostitution of former billboard hits, as advertising jingles.....welcome to Armageddon.....

No, you're in your 40's because of this picture. On the other hand, at my age everyone looks 40, so you could very well be 30 for all I know. Anyway, I'm gonna go back to my teen angst.

In reply to your comment:
I'm in my 40s for writing that?

Girls choir sings Smells like teen spirit

dag says...

Comment hidden because you are ignoring dag. (show it anyway)

I don't know, this arrangement really works for me. I think because the song is about teen angst, and the girls are obviously teens. The solo piano is a nice touch.

Yes, the conductor is a bit emotive, but good for him - getting into his job, and taking a non-pruient interest in teen girls.

Thoughts about Iran & 9/11 from Rosie and The View

qbert says...

It's sort of intuitive for humans to invent some vast and elaborate conspiracy to explain 911. The effects were so momentous, we just feel like there must be a cause that is equally momentous.

While I sympathize with the angst and confusion of people buying into the "911 conspiracy" bit, there's still something pathetic about it. Hearing Rosie carry on about the dehumanization of Iranians, it makes me wonder if she really understands that Iranians are equally human and flawed as Americans: that all we have between us are systems, and only the Iranian system has lately invested public funds in dehumanizing its (Israeli) enemies...

The Shatman vs The Lamest Monster Ever!

Sylvester_Ink says...

Aaaand in the end, Kirk has to cheat and use a gun. But in all fairness, the other captains wouldn't fair so well. Picard would try to talk it into submission. Sisko would be too busy on one of his regular angst trips. And Janeway . . . well, she's a girl. ;-)

Emo is DANGEROUS

bigbikeman says...

Say it with me: "emo" is stupid. Worrying about emo is stupid-er.

In the end it's just the same clique-based teen angst that's been playing itself out in pop culture for quite some time now.
Elvis & rock n' roll, punk rock, ozzy, death metal, goths, marilyn manson etc etc etc. Retrospectively, all of these things look somewhat tame, and eventually the big fuss made over them looks downright silly. This video would be exhibit A.

"The Bitch of Living", from hot new Broadway musical

Erotic new musical a surprise hit on Broadway

NEW YORK (Reuters) - Teenage sex scenes showing a naked breast, masturbation and sadomasochism aren't the usual Broadway fare, but "Spring Awakening" has become the surprise hit musical of the season while being hailed as tastefully erotic.

Adapted from German playwright Frank Wedekind's then-scandalous 1891 play, "Spring Awakening" looks at the angst of high school students and their sexual awakening in repressed 19th-century Germany.

With song titles such as "The Bitch of Living" and "Touch Me," the show opened on Broadway last month to glowing reviews that compared its contemporary rock song score to that of the prize-winning "Rent." Its run was recently extended...
