TIMELAPSE: Largest HMS Prince of Wales hull section delivery
"Defence capability" is similar doublespeak to what we use in German, but in case of an aircraft carrier, it really is just irritating to speak of defence.
Anyways, what's the latest on these puppies? STOVL or CATOBAR? I haven't read a thing about it in years, ever since the F-35 went horribly over budget for the umpteenth time.
CATOBAR and F-35C was the last I heard, but that was quite some time ago.
The Answer To A Short Runway? The Ski Jump Runway
It would have been better to put catapults on the aircraft carriers, but they kinda screwed the pooch on that one.
Captain America: Winter Soldier - Trailer 2
Did they rebuild the impossible flying airship-aircraft carrier only to smash it again?

They alter Hollywood scripts for studios that want US military hardware in their movies. Want to film a taxpayer funded aircraft carrier in this/any movie you're making?? We're not keen on this line where the guy mentions CIA heroin dealing/ lies to invade Iraq / torture centres / deathsquads etc etc..
Some say no (independence day) most go along with it as economic neccesity, others have their nose so far up the military ass they make Leni Riefenstahl look like a impassionate observer (Bruckhemer/Scott etc).
Didn't you wonder why all modern mainstream Hollywood films have become propaganda?
What is the US military propaganda wing?
David Hahn: Nuclear Boy Scout
And here's more info on him. It sounds like he's a really bright individual who society completely failed to position for success.
After dropping out of community college, Hahn joined the Navy, assigned to the nuclear-powered aircraft carrier USS Enterprise as an undesignated seaman.
Hahn had hoped to pursue a nuclear specialist career. EPA scientists believe that Hahn may have exceeded the lifetime dosage for thorium exposure, but he refused their recommendation that he be examined at the Enrico Fermi Nuclear Generating Station.
And then a sad bit:
On August 1, 2007, Hahn was arrested in Clinton Township, Michigan for larceny, in relation to a matter involving several smoke detectors, allegedly removed from the halls of his apartment building. His intention was to obtain americium, a radioactive substance, from the detectors. In his mug shot, his face is covered with sores which investigators claim are possibly from exposure to radioactive materials
Finally: fer christ's sake, son! what the hell happened to you!

Captain America 2 trailer
Didn't S.H.I.E.L.D. learn how bad an idea a flying aircraft carrier was during the Avengers movie? Why would they build more of these?
Captain America 2 trailer
I don't have a problem with special effects. I have a problem with shitty special effects that make me feel like I'm playing a video game instead of watching a movie. Anyone with a fair amount of gaming experience can tell what's real from what's not. All I'm saying is I long for the days when cgi was used to enhance rather than replace good special effects.
The models of the white house blown up for Independence day will ALWAYS look more real than the pixilated aircraft carrier that's coming out sometime next year. Go peddle your fan boy bullshit to someone who enjoys the Green screen studio as much as you seem to.
P. S.
I'm sooo happy that Disney purchased the rights to marvel. I always wanted to see the superheros I grew up reading in high Def PG 13 where wolverine can rip someone in half and not get blood on himself.
*makes a jerking off hand gesture* @packo
Russian Darts
Aww, I was hoping for it to go up to an aircraft carrier.

Battlefield 4: Official Frostbite 3 Feature Video
Okay, I thought it was too soon for a full sequel, but some of that does look pretty impressive. Just promise me I can drive the team's aircraft carrier off the map and you've got a sale.
Helicopter landing hard on the runway
Correct, the landing should not be hard when done correctly. Also while you are correct that it is difficult to do correctly, we used to do them all the time in the military. That's what TRAINING is for. That said, there are plenty of difficult maneuvers done by military pilots routinely. Landing on an LPH or aircraft carrier for example (especially fixed wing with no hover capability). Also landing a helo in "the field" can be a challenge, landing in between trees, around obstacles, on top of obstacles, etc. All of which is done routinely in the military on a daily basis. Also low visibility, night flights, and instrument only flights can be a challenge. Flying over water at night in a helo is also challenging and dangerous.
My understanding is that a correct autorotation is NOT accompanied by a hard landing. However, it IS very difficult to pull off (hard---what a pun!),
StarCraft II: Heart of the Swarm Opening Cinematic
@rychan, so the CGI cinematic is not representative of actual gameplay? Well, that's a first!
Can you imagine trying to play starcraft if units were to scale?
From that video, an ultralisk is about the size of an aircraft carrier and a battle cruiser seems to be like a decent sized city. It'd be impossible to control.
Helicopter Rescue Of An RC Plane In the Tree Tops
That's nothing, I used to fly helicopters through the lower hangars of aircraft carriers!
(of course it was a video game. I do miss BF1942:Desert Combat)
