How Japan Keeps Millions of Residents Safe From Floods

Blade Runner 2049 Trailer

transmorpher says...

Change the title and it could be any other Hollywood cookie cutter movie released in the last 10 years.

Perhaps the trailer is misleadingly generic, and I really hope so, but after Robocop, Total Recall, and Aliens, the track record for rebooting 80s cult classics isn't good.

Also what's with the 5 second micro trailer before the real trailer? Are peoples attention spans so poor these days that we have to tease the advert even before it plays?

How Many Lions Are in This Bush?

JustSaying jokingly says...

No no, that ain't clown pussy, that's something entirely different. You're thinking Total Recall pussy. Like, you know, buy 3 melons and get one extra pussy for one bush. Mutants and shit.

I'm pretty sure you aren't supposed to see more than one pussy per bush, any more and it's probably Clown pussy.

WTF Happened to PG-13?

spawnflagger says...

I don't think it would be that hard for studios to release both an R and PG-13 version of a movie to theaters at the same time. Simply have the R ones start after 9pm, and PG-13 start before. Or on weekends show both in different rooms (since many of the larger theaters have same movie running on multiple screens anyway).

Personally I don't pay attention to the ratings when deciding to see a movie or not, but I can see it being important for parents taking their kids to see something. For example I didn't NOT see Expendables 3 because it was PG-13, I chose not too because it looked exactly like the first 2, and didn't want to waste money on it. Maybe I'll watch it on Netflix eventually.

I also thought the remakes of both Total Recall and Robocop were decent in their own way, both were PG-13 where the originals were R, and I don't think it took away from the movie.

Of course movies like Scarface have to be R, because that's the nature of the story and character. Look for the TV version of Scarface, and the voice-overs they did to achieve it- so funny ("This city's like a chicken, waiting to be plucked").

Poltergeist should not have been PG. Thinking of that scene with the tree during the thunderstorm still gives me goosebumps.

Lucy TRAILER 1 (2014) - Luc Besson, Scarlett Johansson Movie

Payback says...

Actually you're forgetting the Total Recall explanation. Where we find out the drugs are merely allowing her powers to resurface, long after she was brain wiped to protect humanity from her vile evilness.

ChaosEngine said:

So we have two possible explanations:

1. A party girl who isn't shown to be particularly intelligent ends up OD'ing on the drugs she was forced to mule. She slips into an elaborate fantasy about having superpowers as a coping mechanism and makes up some bullshit "10% of your brain" as aher uneducated way of rationalising it

OR....

2. Meth gives you superpowers (kinda want that on a tshirt now )

And you think 2 is less ridiculous?!

I'm not really serious though. The "it was all a dream" thing was a hack cliche before most of us were 10, so yeah, it's a shitty cop out.

That said, I fully expect to enjoy this movie as a fun popcorn flick. The 5th element had a ridiculous premise too (an evil rock must be stopped by love!) but that still turned out awesome. I don't think this will be that good, but I'm willing to give it a chance.

Bryan Cranston Scared Sh*tless in new Godzilla Trailer

lakawak says...

I think it is kind of funny that so many people think "Oooh...Bryan Cranston is in it! So it must be good." Not only before Breaking Bad...but SINCE Breaking Bad, Bryan Cranston has been in one awful movie after another. Before Breaking Bad: The Big Thing. Terror Tract. Erotique. After Breaking Bad stared: Love Ranch. Larry Crowne. Rock of Ages. John Carter. And he is not stranger to awful remakes of old movies either, with Total Recall.

So having Bryan Cranston in your movie credit is far from a guarantee of a good movie.

Honest Trailers - Gravity

arghness says...

Watch Brazil and/or Repo Men for that. Maybe Total Recall too, but that's less explicit.

Oh man, the spoilers, the spoilers!

What bugged me the most about the movie is knowing you can't get to the other stations like she does. Those things are hundreds (thousands?) of miles apart at any one point in their orbits. They made it look like going next door for a cup of sugar.

Once she had the Clooneycination, I thought we were going to find out her getting back down to Earth was the same, and she died, spinning off into the void like Darth Vader was supposed to.

RoboCop - Reboot Trailer

coolhund says...

When looking at all these recent reboots, I feel like I could make a fortune as director and writer in Hollywood.
Only Total Recall was kinda good, because it felt like a completely new movie.
