I suppose you are already sufficiently disgusted with the healthcare system in the US, but here's a piece on the preauthorisation of new drugs and medical procedures. And oh boy, it's a doozy. I should have expected it to be set up this way, but I didn't guess. Need to crank my cynicism up to 12.
Edit: also, Ronan Farrow has a new piece out on Weinstein: Harvey Weinstein’s Army of Spies. Farrow's reporting on the issue has been nothing short of sublime. An absolute must-read if you're interested in the case.
Your phone is always listening
Slashdot had a post about an upcoming (about 1 year out) phone that can run pretty standard Linux distros. I took interest because I'm very annoyed about how UNconfigurable android is.
I have a Samsung Galaxy S2, very old by now, but hardware wise it still works fine. Software wise, it is shit. Android apps are massively bloated compared to when the phone was new, so the "system" partition of the phone is too small to install anything other than like 1-2 apps. From what I can tell, rooting might not help because there are still standard partitioning requirements? I dunno. Anyway, it is a big mess compared to a desktop, where I can partition things any way I want (which works great if you know what you are doing).
Anyway, I don't want to shill for Purism, the company that will be making the phone in the Slashdot article (for one thing, the phone is still a year or so away from final production), but they seem to be doing things right. They DO have some laptops on the market now, which apparently include a relevant feature mentioned in the write-up about their upcoming phone: hardware kill switches for the microphone, camera, and WiFi/Bluetooth.
If you read the ToS (hah! as if) for things like Facebook's app or the phones / OS themselves, you might see that you are "agreeing" to this kind of
data collectionspying. If that sets the bar for "good" behavior, imagine what the bad guys (NSA, other agencies, state actors, unscrupulous advertisers, malware producers, etc.) can and will do. That's why any software solution is dubious. That's why electrical tape over your webcam is better than assuming that the record light is trustworthy. That's why a hardware kill switch is a good feature if you're concerned about this (like me). Here's links to:
an article about the hardware kill switches in Purism's laptops, and
an article about their upcoming phone the Librem 5
I don't own any of their hardware. I don't like paid shills. That being said, I'm interested in what they are doing.
Shark
I believe this is from the James Bond exhibit at the Spy Museum: https://www.spymuseum.org/exhibition-experiences/exquisitely-evil/ . I remember it being pretty effective in person.
RoboBee: Milimeter-scale robot that can fly, swim, and more
"Hybrid aerial-aquatic robots could be used for environmental exploration and search and rescue missions."
But really, probably just spying on the populace, primarily.

The Nation and Bloomberg ran with it. Two weeks late, but hey, it's something.
News from the hacking front: Intel Vets Challenge ‘Russia Hack’ Evidence
The analysis linked in that post can be found here.
Short version: “Guccifer 2.0” July 5, 2016 intrusion into the DNC server was most likely done locally, meaning it was a leak, not a hack.
Moore, Sir Roger Moore
Roger Moore was always my James Bond. I was never interested in seeing Bond movies when he stopped being 007. Live and Let Die was the first Bond movie i saw in the theater, but The Spy Who Loved Me was my all time favorite.
Is a Grand Jury Now Looking into Trump?
Actually, it's Russian "spy's" and China "ties."
Think I was just watching a video with good ol' Chompkster on the Sift who was saying that it's meaningless to focus on this topic. Hopefully, we'll get him out of there - but probably not with the Russian ties aspect.
Chris Pratt Completes a Rubik's Cube while being Interviewed
*doublepromote Chris is like one of the nerdy kids from school that you meet at the 10 year reunion and find out he is now like an international super spy.
Tapper: This is the Definition of Fake News
Trump might not be completely right but he is not completely wrong. Fisa request did go out. To spy directly or indirectly on Trump and his staff I'm not sure yet.
But to bring a CNN clip as factual is anything but. CNN is king of FAKE news.
To be sure all programing
ABC, CBS,NBC, CNN, MSNBC, Late night shows ) is set to anti Trump programing 24/7 except for FOX .. They are only 1/3 anti Trump programing.
How about @bobknight33 , do you still believe this distraction/lie, or have you had your come to Jesus moment yet and realized he's a con artist?
Keep in mind, this (and others Trump has repeated) story came directly from Alex Jones, who has since admitted he's playing a character of a nutjob conspiracy theorist and doesn't actually believe anything he says on air....but Trump never got the memo and keeps watching and believing him.

Trump's Wiretapping Claims Destroyed By Comey
Because I'm assuming that one of the parties to the conversation didn't just write a transcript of the conversation from memory and give it to someone else, to later be leaked.
I just happened to come across an interesting theory that is plausible(The Brits did it). From the Judge who has railed againt the unconstitutional NSA spying, so I don't think you can chalk this up to pure FOX news bullshit. In fact they took him off the air indefinitely for expressing his opinion. All of Comey's statements would still be truthful as well.
http://www.foxnews.com/opinion/2017/03/16/andrew-napolitano-did-obama-spy-on-trump.html
Of course, just as I give little creedence to unsourced assertions that "The Russians did it" during the last administration, this will stay an interesting theory until the anonymous sources can deliver evidence.
John Oliver - Trump's Wiretapping Claim
Oops.....

And they've had to publicly apologize to the Brits too.
What's ironic is, Trump is also accused of enlisting a foreign intelligence office to spy on and damage a political opponent, and there's a lot of evidence indicating that it really happened, coming not only directly from multiple sources in the intelligence community, (not conspiracy theory loving fake news talking heads with a clear bias) but also directly from Trump's mouth when he publicly asked the Russians to hack Clinton and release any emails they find....which they actually did in a clear attempt to help him get elected.
I think any nomination hearings need to be postponed until this investigation is complete, because if it does find what seems apparent, that Trump and his administration colluded with a hostile foreign power to rig our election, that makes them treasonous traitors, and we certainly don't want that kind of person installing Supreme Court judges (or any other nominees for permanent or important positions) that are working for our enemies. As long as there's serious question of Trump's Russian ties, it's possible treason to follow his lead in any way. If it finds collusion, anyone involved should probably be executed as traitors after conviction, with their assets seized.
Once that investigation is over...if it finds no collusion...it's time to start a second investigation into his mental condition, as it seems he's developing dementia at a rapid pace, and that's a legal reason to remove him from office. He needs to prove he's not mentally impaired using accepted medical tests and standards...the long form tests.
