I'm not saying that flippantly - her having experienced what she did, she may not ever be over it, but posting a public YouTube video with this details and introspection may not provide her with the solace she's seeking. My uninformed opinion is that I don't think you ever get over something like this, never mind how much therapy you have. Scar tissue and all that. Seems to me that she is coping as best you'd expect given the circumstances.


Her video serves a second purpose, beyond just her personal catharsis. Rape is too common, a sense of solidarity might go some way to helping those victims.

Anyway. I hope she continues to use her channel regardless of whether this rapist unsubs. I'm not sure what legal recourse she'd have there. Still, living well is the best revenge.

I think Tyler became a villain, it's sort of the best villain because it's where internal conflicts beat on eachother for a time and then one wins out. Very interesting to think of that movie in terms of them actually being two people instead of what it ended up being. Imagine Tyler was his friend that slowly went insane and controlling until you had to eventually push the big red button and stop the madness.

Although I have to say me personally, I was all for Tyler. His last stand was certainly not hurting anyone and it was a great idea, which is why I suppose it wasn't a thing when it happened to go down anyways, it was a fitting climax. Jack though was reacting because the situation had gotten out of control and he could predict where it would lead. He didn't trust Tyler, or himself really. Pretty cool.

He called a local vet emergency room and arranged for a staff to be available. About 45 minutes after we picked her up, her owners finally called us back. She was about 5 miles from home and were overjoyed that we had her. I explained that she was badly injured and that we were about to take he to the vet emergency room, but they insisted on seeing her first, so we waited for them. The owners got out of the car, I could see their kids and another beagle in the car. Those kids were visibly upset.
When the owners arrived, this poor dog tried to jump up and see them, but immediately fell to the ground due to her injuries. As this was happening, our vet had come over to the house, diagnosed that both legs and pelvis were broken and that emergency surgery was needed. It may (or may not) surprise you that I agree with almost everything you said.

Killing is a necessary part of our society, yes.
The hypocrisy of killing (as you said, distinguished from "murder") in our modern culture is glaring.
I also agree that lots of very unpleasant things happen in a sufficiently-free society. People will kill people. People will take advantage of people. Terrorist acts will be perpetrated. People will make terrible movies and terrible art that is offensive to my sensibilities. Nothing bad will happen only when no one is allowed to choose anything for themselves.

But we do set boundaries, laws, for the precise reason you stated: "Your rights end where mine begin and vice versa."

That's what makes us a civilization, right? We give up certain freedoms with the knowledge that others will be compelled to give up those freedoms as well, and we will all be able to pursue happiness more comfortably as a result. For instance, we agree not to kill our neighbors on a whim and take their stuff, knowing that others will be compelled to avoid doing the same to us. We agree not to drive while intoxicated (even if we're really good at it) knowing that others (many of whom aren't as good at it as we totally are) will be compelled not to do so, and we'll all be less likely to get flattened.

Many of these laws imply some intrinsic value to a human life. Murder is illegal because that seriously infringes on the rights of another human. Sure, we stratify killing - murder, negligent homicide, manslaughter, but the band across which individual (as opposed to institutional) killing is NOT murder is pretty narrow, especially if it's intentional. Self defense, mental illness...
This is where the abortion debate diverges from analogy and requires that we define when a fetus can be considered a human, because after that point, we're killing a human.

I also disagree with the "especially with their own body" argument. Sure, a fetus could not survive without the mother (up to a point), but if you cut that fetus, the mother will bear no scar. The child will bear that scar. Once we say there is a human there, that is no longer her body. Parents are held responsible for care of their children, and consequences are dictated for negligence. Because of my understanding of fetal development, I believe this responsibility extends into the womb.

I think the deferral of the question of "when" to "those far more educated" may nullify the entire argument. If you can accept that there's a point beyond which abortion should no longer be an option, but we don't know when it is, then we have to accept that it might be "before pregnancy can even be recognized".
The process of fetal development is fairly well-understood and documented, and you're obviously intelligent enough to appreciate the process. Maybe trying to pinpoint the "OK-NOT OK" boundry for yourself might change the way you think about the issue, or maybe not, but I believe it would make you better able to argue your point effectively. Arguing for killing a human in order to increase the quality of life of someone else strikes me as being a very difficult position to defend. Arguing for removing a mass of tissue with the potential for becoming a human seems much more defensible. But again, we obviously see this issue with differing perspectives.

I'm gonna say that if the dog takes the treat they bash him upside his face. He is in training to not except treats, look at the scar on his face and the way he is emotionally torn. Its well known that a dog that excepts all treats can easily be bypassed or renderd useless.

I actually had the (mis)fortune to see this when I was a kid. Scarred me for life on some levels. It left such an impression that I put some good effort into tracking it down years later. I'd still consider it a kids show, but it really was amazingly mature.

Yes. Airsoft hurts. I was an Airsoft player myself, and founded a team with a friend of mine. I was once shot on my bare arm. it bled, and even though that was years ago, I still have a small, but barely noticeable scar from that event.

Back in high school me and a bunch of other students who got high enough PSAT scores got invited to go down to the Naval Academy in Annapolis to experience a weekend orientation of the academy. I bunked with a guy from Texas who was a black belt in karate. At the time I was really into Tae Kwon Do and we got to talking about martial arts in general. One of the other guys in our room asked us how to deal with an attacker with a knife and the karate guy without pause answers, "Run."

Everyone laughed until he lifted up his shirt and showed us this ugly red scar that goes from one side of his belly to the other. Apparently, some guy had talked trash to him out on the street one day and instead of walking away he faced off against the guy. The knife came out so fast he said he never saw it coming. He got hella lucky in that the slash wasn't deep enough to hit his internal organs and that the other dude just took off running after getting the one hit in, but he was still bleeding everywhere. Some other people nearby called an ambulance and got the kid to the hospital.

Years later, my brother and I got into mixed-martial arts and used to practice defending against knife attacks. We'd wear cheap white clothing and used red markers to simulate the knife. What we learned really quickly is that even if you successfully disarmed the simulated attacker, when you looked down you had probably been cut in at least 3 different places during the attempt.

So I agree with everything in this video. Someone comes at you with a knife, you're not necessarily fucked but you need to accept that in all likelihood you're going to get cut... and that even if you succeed in incapacitating the attacker there's still a good chance you'll bleed out from the cuts you took in the process before medical attention arrives.
