woman destroys third wave feminism in 3 minutes

ulysses1904 says...

I'm sure she has some valid points but the fact-checker in me has to ask about the sources of the statistics for "100k to 140k males raped in prison" and "almost half the domestic abuse victims are men". Something more than "studies have shown". Doesn't take away from her speech so much as it makes me tune that part out the same way I would when Bill O'Reilly is shouting big numbers at his guests. Especially when she rounds it up to the higher estimate of 140k towards the end.

the enslavement of humanity

Barbar says...

It's definitely not spot on. It makes some points, but it misses them elsewhere.

Where is the option for the cotton planter to change careers to something they find interesting and challenging?

Where are the benefits of infrastructure?

How about healthcare?

How about individual's rights?

How about protection from hostility?

How about ever improving quality of life?

I'm all for complaining about the clown show that is the current state of US (amongst other countries) politics. But don't pretend that you are afforded no benefits by the state.

This has the intellectual honesty of a Bill O'reilly segment.

Or is it spot-on? This is perfectly applicable to all of humanity.

Man Harassed By Fox News Simply Tells Them The Truth

messenger says...

If you want unbiased news, you could assess several different news sources (nobody can assess them all) for their reliability and dedication to telling true stories. After that, only go to the sources that proved themselves before, and continue assessing them for reliability. Clearly Fox News is all about misinformation from blowhards who value appearing correct above being correct. Right there, O'Reilly ended with an ad hominem. So no, Fox News could never, ever be in the mix if someone wanted an unbiased source of news.

AeroMechanical said:

As I see it, if you truly want unbiased news (in English, from an American perspective), you need to consume everything on Fox News, MSNBC, NPR/PBS, the BBC World Service, and Al Jazeera, and then make up your own mind based on all those sources. You could probably throw in a few more, but since that's all too much anyways, I concede that there is actually no unbiased news available. Of course, Fox and MSNBC are blatantly biased, and at least NPR, the BBC and Al Jazeera try not to be.

O'blivious - Bill O'Reilly's All-White Debate on Racism

iaui says...

Man, O'Reilly really scoops some grade-A bullshit. It's funny, his point about people outside of America thinking Americans are more racist than other people doesn't come from those criticizing the state of race relations in America, it comes from him and people like him's attitudes about race relations in America.

I love the end of this clip. You don't think racism exists in America, O'Reilly? So what.

@JustSaying

I'm gonna be nice cause I don't have any experience with you or your opinions yet. And, to an extent, I agree..

Hopefully you can contribute something meaningful to videosift, considering all the great voices who've disappeared from this place.

It's just extremely frustrating that these two goofballs are haven't left yet.

And in fact, your premise is a topic that I definitely have been meaning to discuss.

There's a Prager "University" video that addresses that exact premise of sugarcoated vs blatant belligerent racist.

The video itself is flagrantly patronizing.

That being said we have all three types of racist on videosift currently:

Bobknight is your classic Neo-Con Racist.
- He hates blacks, gays, jews & liberals and makes no qualms about expressing how subhuman those groups are.

Trancecoach is your more politically-correct racist.
- Seems pretty open-minded and accepting, until you reach the middle or end of his comment.
Then it's all like "isn't it sad that all black people have no fathers and live in the ghetto."

Lantern is a special case.
- He'll be toned-down yet flagrant at times. Openly belligerent at others.
But it's always under the guise of "I can't be racist cause I don't FEEL like i'm racist"

He even used the classic "Well I CAN'T be racist cause my DAUGHTER married a BLACK/BIRACIAL guy! See, not racist"

Then will immediately say some heinously racist shit like he has in this thread. i.e.

"Of course I didn't bother reading the article for context or facts.
I'm a cop, I know how the 'Criminal Element' thinks.
Clearly those kids were dangerous.
If we had just heard the audio, we would have seen how those punks are no better than those looting rioting savages in Baltimore"

So no, JustSaiyan.. I would NOT prefer to have some idiot saying idiot things whenever I come back to check out the site.

At least Bill O'Reilly is smart enough to have a somewhat substantive discussion.

Lantern just says racist shit, then cowers behind the "i'm a good person because my job & family FORCE me into being around lesbians & colored people.. and I put up with that pretty well. so.. yeah.."

But yeah, I just hate people like Lantern cause he's too chicken shit to just say he thinks black people are inferior whenever I press him on it.

At least Bobknight will straight tell you gays are immoral sinful perverts or whatever. The old-fashion, honest, terrifying-murder-clown bigot he is.

Then again, Bobknight can't admit he's racist either.
So.. maybe that's just a core Conservative talking point now.

JustSaying says...

Would you feel more comfortable if he wore a white hood? Maybe talk about 'gang lifestyle'?
I prefer my racists in white hoods and displaying swastikas, so I don't have to wade through subtext to id them. Open racism is stupid but at least honest. I despise political correctness and its ability to sugarcoat hatred. I'd rather engage a Neo-Nazi or white pride, god-hates-fags biblethumper than a Rick Santorum or Bill O'Reilly who are too much of a coward to say what they believe because they know how the broad public reacts.
The notion of not publicly voicing those idiotic, inhuman opinions because its offensive is more offensive to me than the opinion itself. I'd like to know if you're an idiot.
I believe in freedom of speech, even if that proves you're a terrible idiot. You have a right to be.

And now wake me up from that strange dream where I defend @lantern53.

GenjiKilpatrick said:

I'm gonna dig into you untill you learn that it's extremely offense & not-okay to publicly voice those stupid opinions.

Three Topics, One Interesting Conversation

billpayer says...

Is it just me or is Kathryn Bigelow really a c**t of the first order who would make up stories about iraqi children rigged to die just to sell movie tickets for her bulls**t made up story that every American thinks is real.

BIll Maher is an propagandist just like Bill'O Reilly is. I'm not much of a Ben Affleck fan but he showed this muppet and his puppet guests who's boss.

republican party has fallen off the political spectrum

bobknight33 says...

To that end then all the American people can do is stop voting for the lesser of 2 evils and vote for the one who will truly start to make a difference., regardless of outcome.

I did not vote for McCain nor did I vote for Romney and of course Obviously not Obama.

Once the sheeple wake up then another party will rise and take form.

I like you statement
" find it interesting that the only real difference is who you feel are the "greater" of two evils.this is the exact same things democrats say about republicans...interesting yes?"

When I watch MSNBC it is funny that it is an opposite of FOX. Fox is more balanced for sure. I'm talking about news not pinheads like Hannity and O'Reilly that stir the pot like Maddow, Sharpton and Sholtz.

The best news of ALL news is Brett Baier and for commentary I like The Kelly file. Both from FOX.

it is good to see you actually make an argument based on your perspective and not just throwing out tired partisan memes.

i find it interesting that the only real difference is who you feel are the "greater" of two evils.this is the exact same things democrats say about republicans...interesting yes?

the only point where you and i are in disagreement (political affiliations aside) is that you posit that we are "sliding towards oligarchy",where i would state "we have become an oligarchy",or more accurately "we have become a plutocracy"-with the oligarchs holding the reigns.

shows over folks....we already lost.

TED: Glenn Greenwald -- Why Privacy Matters

MilkmanDan says...

I dunno, I think that he was asking an (unfortunately) common question in a way that gave Greenwald a fair and friendly environment to respond to it -- which he did in spectacular style. I thought that his response was definitely the highlight of the Q/A at the end, and arguably a highlight of the entire speech/video.

If he went on Bill O'Reilly or some other Fox News show, the same question would be asked, and then he be interrupted during his response rather that allowing him to point out the ridiculousness of that line of thinking... So, I think that between A) playing Devil's Advocate and getting that question out of the way, and B) kind of "lobbing" the question to him instead of really going full-tilt, it was a good way to allow Greenwald to respond to that issue without having it seem like they were avoiding pressing him with the "tough questions". Pretty well done, I think.

TYT - Ben Affleck vs Bill Maher & Sam Harris

radx says...

On TYT's thumbnail, Affleck's facial expression bears a striking resemblence to that of David Silverman (aka WTF-guy) when O'Reilly made his point about "tide goes in, tide goes out -- you can't explain that".

Intent or coincidence?

Also, anyone else miss Hitchens right now?

Bill Maher and Ben Affleck go at it over Islam

newtboy says...

I think you probably haven't watched Bill Maher before, or you may have seen him 'call out' Israel for their terrible treatment of Palestinians.
I feel this is kind of like me saying "I'll never watch Bill O'Reilly again"...as if I watched him before his latest insane statement. I, admittedly, have only watched clips that make O'Reilly look ridiculous (I'm not sure there's another kind), so while technically correct, that statement would be implying a falsehood.
Oh....and Muslim is not a race, people, it's a religion comprised of people from EVERY race...so being anti-Muslim is NOT being racist any more than being anti-bad cop is.

billpayer said:

What a surprise, the two Jewish panel members are anti-muslim.
Sam Harris pro-Israeli.
Bill Maher is racist. Pure and simple.
never heard him calling out Judaism for Israels genocide in Gaza.

I'll never watch his lame unfunny racist shit again.
