A Chameleon Like No Other
After years of watching hundreds of optical illusions, magic tricks etc , I really thought I was immune to the best possible versions of this kind of stuff, but this one caught me out completely. Absolutely brilliantly done.
I didn't catch it until she lifted her legs. And even worse, its SO obvious once you see it. makes the trick better IMO
A Chameleon Like No Other
I only made it to the :29 mark before I noticed some side boob. Then the whole illusion was ruined...and I continued to watch every second of it.
Virtual reality, explained with some trippy optical illusion
I like how he points out that the color "illusions" are not actually a brain failure, but an amazing visual processing feature honed by evolution. If the rubix cube were a real object photographed in yellow light and then in blue light, those tiles would have to be yellow and blue (not grey). It's like our brains calculate the true color under white light, and that's what we see.
Just think about how useful that is, without that feature we could never build up knowledge about what color different plants and animals are, because their color would seem to change drastically with the lighting conditions.

? I'm confused. I admitted my 'test' was lacking, and deferred to @ChaosEngine who didn't trust his eyes but measured...so I am no longer certain it's 'fake' at all, in fact I was careful to NEVER call it 'fake'. Perhaps you only read my first post in this thread and missed my admission that I was wrong?
As I said, I think there's a reason it LOOKED like it did to me...probably the surrounding color reflecting off the white paper I used to mask off and 'coloring' the grey squares....and likely the paper I used was not perfectly straight to use as a straight edge....and measuring anything on a screen is less than perfect, which is why I poorly measured the table and lines...the second time I measured it I did better, and I admit they are the same size contrary to my original statement.
I also only saw grey pills.
The reason I was skeptical is I've seen these same 'illusions' faked many times. For instance, the last time I saw the Rubik's cube, the tiles had dark shaded colored edges they removed when 'masking off' which obviously changed the color. It's not that I don't 'believe' in optical illusions, I just think people are cheaters more often than not these days and fudge things they don't need to fudge. This time it was my method of 'masking off' that seems to be my issue...I don't have an image editor that will do much for me here....sadly...but it doesn't mean I don't trust Chaosengine who did and set me straight.
OK? ;-)
@newtboy - I'm blown away at how certain you are it's all fake. I suggest you do what I did: Instead of using paper on your screen, just take a screenshot and insert into an image editor and inspect things there.
I cut the three tiles out and pasted them side-by-side and they are in fact the same color: http://i.imgur.com/e5lcV5P.png
I dragged straight lines on the checkerboard before and after the dots were added, and it has only straight lines.
I copied/pasted the blue tabletop, rotated it and it fit perfectly on the other one: http://i.imgur.com/QzT8nc8.png
Nothing was fudged in the video. It just shows how powerfully your brain is latching onto what it believes it is seeing.
It's like that dress photo from a few weeks ago. "Is it white and gold or purple and black?!" Many people were hardcore in one direction or the other.
The only one that left me confused is the pills. 1) He said they were red and blue, but they were yellow and turquoise. 2) They had holes in the pills allowing the background color through; it was only there that they looked colored, otherwise they were just gray. I suspect they were just trying to shoe-horn in a red pill blue pill Matrix reference.

the bar / far illusion at the end is the best i've ever seen
Virtual reality, explained with some trippy optical illusion
OK. Looking extremely closely and using paper to block out the image, I have to say they fudged things on some of them.
I saw two grey pills the whole time.
The colored tiles fade to grey as they "mask off" the other tiles, they start no where near the shade of grey they end up as, their color has faded a lot in the process.
The grey tiles on the floor also change shades as they are 'masked off' quite clearly. I went 1/4 speed, and also tried masking them off myself, they clearly faked this one.
I put a straight edge on the checker board and sure enough, those lines are slightly curved....just barely but they are.
The two table tops are NOT the same size at first, I measured and the vertical table is definitely longer on the long side. That one's obvious. (EDIT:I'm wrong about that)
The spinning dots does work for me, as do convex images and auditory illusions.
So I'm not ready to call 'fake' on this, but IMO it's fudged badly.

exactly the same for me - all the other illusions "work", except this pill one - I saw them both as gray immediately, never red or blue.
(and I have seen The Matrix movie)
In the first image I saw both as matching grey pills the whole time - neither looks even slightly tinted to me. Is anyone else getting that? I have no color blindness at all and the cube illusion works just fine. Weird.

Iron Body Technique
Funny you should use that comparison...because I do consider the WWF to be a con-game. Possibly because I was raised by people that honestly believed it was real.
I'll pull back my statement if it turns out that they don't claim this to be real...I don't believe I've ever actually heard one of these guys make a statement that it is, or is not just an illusion.
Only if you consider WWF 'wrestlers' con-artists. I see them as performers. Maybe I'm wrong and they claim it's all real (well, so do wrestlers when in character), but it's not like you can't see the guy pressing against the drill with his hand instead of his head. It's not as impressive as they 'claim', but is still impressive for what it actually is (well, some of it is, some is just totally silly, like wrestling).

Red Neck trucker says NO to this blonde trying to merge...
wow, this video is getting way more comments than expected.
some are saying the semi sped up.
i do not see any evidence of this.if this trucker shifted and hit the gas..you would know it,i am partially deaf and i would know it.
i do,however, see conditions further up that precipitate the lane slowing down, which of course will give the illusion the trucker is speeding up.
i am not that interested in the legalese as some of you are, considering that lawful right or wrong are meaningless when people can die.
i am far more concerned with safety.
maybe if the trucker was not on the phone he would have noticed captain retard inching in and could have responded appropriately i.e:downshift..let off the gas.(NOT jam the brakes, unless you want a scene from the A-team).
conclusion=fail
maybe if speedy gonzales didn't treat a 40 ton big rig as a normal 2 ton car that had the ability to defy the laws of physics and just assumed that he/she would be let in by mr nice rig master, maybe they would not have 5k worth of body work on their car.
conclusion=fail
this could have gone so much worse than it did,and for that i am glad.
it still bothers me how some drivers deal with semi big-rigs.they truly are clueless and endanger not only themselves but everybody on the highway around them by their impatient and selfish driving.
Baffled by Stupidity: Richard Dawkins
OK, I'm glad you tried though.
Actually I dismiss this as ignoring previous repeated public/biblical statements about god, Jesus, and the holy ghost being a single omniscient and omnipotent super being.
I've been told time and time again that Jesus "sacrificed himself for our sins". That means HE had control, obvious if he/3 is omnipotent, he has control over everything, knows everything, and free will is an illusion/lie...just like the cake. ;-) It simply can't be both ways. Either god is omnipotent or not. There's no such thing as 'partially omnipotent'....it's like saying 'part of infinity'....meaningless. (in case you are unaware, any portion of infinity is infinity)
If it was not intentional, and was all the doing of man, then Jesus didn't do anything FOR us in that death. So why do people thank him constantly? Why do people chastise others with 'Jesus died for your sins...so now you owe him your eternal gratitude'?
Man wouldn't need saving if god didn't CREATE sins to be avoided, or rules and rituals that must be observed (although oddly, every religion interprets the rules differently, even those that take the rules from the same book, which should be impossible if it's really the 'infallible word of god', no? Why would He make his definitive requirements so impossible to understand and follow, unless he's really closer to Loki in temperament and is really just screwing with us all), or punishment for being 'confused' about what's reality and what's not: Hell....or if god doesn't exist, or if god's existence and/or sin is unknown to a person.... (WHAT? What kind of rule system is that?) Reminds me of a joke too....
Aborigine asks the missionary :"So, you say God would not have punished us for sinning if we did not yet know about him or sin, and we would have all gone to heaven?"
Missioinary replies: "Yes, God is compassionate, and would not punish you for not knowing something you could not know, or not knowing rules you had not been taught."
Aborigine replies: "The why the f#ck did you tell us! Asshole!"
Well, its a pretty deep topic, that can't really be relegated to the comment section of a video hosting site, but just briefly, your first fallacy is that 'he sent himself to be tortured'. Humans tortured and killed Christ according to the story. You can dismiss this as stating that mankind is God's creation so its all some sort of torture circle jerk, but you missed the important element of free will, and that's the critical distinction. Man wouldn't need saving if man is just a puppet of a deity. There's all sorts of other things, including a pretty cursory understanding of the trinity that to me indicates that Hitchens spent too much of his life on the defensive against what he perceived, perhaps justifiably so, as a hostile religious society.
The One Ring Explained. Lord of the Rings Mythology Part 2
I like the idea of what you're saying but as far as the ring goes I would look at it this way. Say you build a super weapon, the problem with a super weapon is if anyone else gets their hands on it they could use it on you, so you build it in such a way that it only really works for you. But you make it nice and shiny and encourage would be thieves to use it (sweet! I'm invisible!) so when they do it will quietly call the cops (or Ringrwraiths in this case) when it's logged on to a network like some stolen iphone from hell. Of course you never want them to have any real power, just the promise or illusion of it to keep them on the hook while security tracks down the stolen item, then you can eat them, "raw and wriggling" if that's your preference.
I agree with you, but to me it would still be more interesting if the power of the one ring was manifested in some more concrete way.
I guess that in general Tolkien wasn't big on allegory, which is why he looked down on interpretations of his work where people assume that the ring is a symbol for "atomic energy", or "technology" or "industry" or whatever. So, from his point of view it is probably better to make the ring more abstract. But, I still think that personally, I get more out of viewing the one ring as sort of an allegory for "power" in general, and the corrupting influence of that power. So, even though I know that your interpretation is correct to what Tolkien had in mind, I like to read his books with my own spin on things in that way.
Would You Take This Bet?
It also needs to be factored in the nature of the game.
A coin flip isn't a) very entertaining nor b) skill based.
That's why games at casinos like poker and blackjack are quite popular, because they have either skill or the illusion of skill involved while also being entertaining.
That's how you get someone to agree to a bet like this - added value of the event itself.
