The Kick-Ass Movies - Bad Taste - (Best Scenes)

THE BATMAN – Main Trailer

cloudballoon says...

This should be great as long as it's not another reboot/origin Batman as it's co-written & directed by Reeves. I LOVE the 2011 PotA franchise, so I'm a lot of trust in Reeves' directing. However, if it's another reboot, then I'm not that excited. Looking at the trailer, it seems more like a reboot than not... so, fingers crossed.

My questions to movie franchises are alway, "is a reboot necessary? Even if the main characters went off screen for a few years/decade? If you're not doing a justifiably different interpretation of a character (comedy Batman to Dark Knight Batman), why not build on previous works?"

The Sony-to-MCU Spidies were still the same Spidey in character at the end of the day after 3 actors playing it. It didn't need those reboots but did, and the origin films were boring.

Star Trek - Lower Decks Intro(duction)

cloudballoon says...

No LOL from EP1. But it wasn't a bad thing to me because I feel the constant panning of all things Star Trek ever since the reboot movie from the die-hard fanbase is making the ST franchise extremely depressing. So it's high time to try to inject something fun into the ST universe.... even if it's just OK comedy. At least I don't have to take ST seriously all the time.

BILL & TED FACE THE MUSIC Official Teaser Trailer #1 (2020)

Without Carlin, this looks like a sad, uninspired cash grab from an old, should be left to rest franchise.

I just cannot imagine this being good. Those who remember it nostalgicly are too old now for the infantile humor, and those the right age group have no connection with the story world, characters, or 80's references.

Hollywood, please quit with the rotten memberberry sauce on everything.

Retired killer comes out of retirement to kill a bunch of bad people, after it becomes personal... and then also bringing back an old franchise in the process... you stay you, Hollywood.

Wow....it wasn't clear to me that this isn't really a parody because at least 4 Sonics in Ohio actually did this....and now all their employees have quit and shuttered the business.

I, for one, hope the new owners at least lose their franchises. If not, and they manage to reopen with $4 an hour wages, I hope the unskilled employees accidentally start grease fires day one and burn down all 4 before insurance coverage kicks in.
What assholes.

27 RARE HISTORICAL PHOTOS THAT EVERYONE SHOULD SEE

Ickster says...

I always end up skeptical of videos/articles of this nature when I'm able to pick out inaccuracies based on my vast storehouse of useless knowledge. For example, Walton's Five and Dime was actually a Ben Franklin franchise. He was frustrated with the franchise agreement, which caused him to go independent and open the first WalMart.

Starship Alamo

And for 12 bonus points, how many movies can you name that are used in the mashup (without running off to Vimeo of course). I'm 8 out of 12. Most disturbingly, there is a Starship Troopers 3 and a non-numbered 4th in the series. Lots of "throwin' around" money in that franchise I guess.

Starbucks meetup ends with handcuffs for 2 patrons

If that was the policy, I could agree, but the corporate representative has said publicly that in that region it's their written policy that non customers can't use the rest room or loiter inside, and they set up the manager, unintentionally, to fail with their policies. It's horrific to me that, for following written policy, the manager is now fired.

Crazy that you, of all people, are arguing the manager in a privately owned business doesn't have the right to eject even customers, much less non customers. How can that work? Any place open to the public is now publicly owned? No business may prosecute anyone for trespassing? Even non customers? Or is it just franchise coffee shops? I've seen many a white punk asked to leave Denny's at 2am for no purchase, or for nursing their coffee for hours....I've been one.

The cops have said they asked the men at least 7 times to leave peacefully over a prolonged, disruptive time period, and they continuously refused. During that time, backup and a supervisor were called and had time to show up while the men remained seated, ignoring the police requests/commands.

How hard would it have been to just buy their own coffee instead of causing all this over obstinate refusal to respect the manager's requests because they're waiting for someone? How often would you expect that excuse, if accepted, to end with hours of free WiFi and restroom use but no sales? Seems to me they caused all this themselves, and had dozens of easy opportunities to avoid even being asked to leave, much less arrest, just by being a customer in the store they set up shop in.

Edit: and I shouldn't have said it had nothing to do with race, there's likely a racial component....it's not only or definitively about race.

All that said...please go ahead and boycott Starbucks, if not for this then because they're out of control and a near monopoly.

I agree until your last paragraph. They were waiting for their friend(s) and they were early.

I personally don't like Starbucks. I do have to meet my boss there yearly ( yearly reviews) and often sit waiting 30 -- 40 minutes till my turn. I do not buy anything, never had. The place is mostly full but I am never harassed.

The store clerk was wrong. And the interaction between the police and the men could have been wrong. I do not know how the interaction went down. If they said their piece and disrespectful to the police then then sure escort them out.. But I don't think they were. Cops should have mediated between the store and the men.

Actors of Sound - Trailer

ChaosEngine says...

Simply not true. Will you get some directors using cookie cutter sound templates? Of course... bad ones. Hell, Bay reuses entire shots in his movies (often in the same damn franchise).

But good filmmakers will hire good sound designers and they will create good sound with what they have available.

Computers are a tool, nothing more. Digital sound is no different to digital imagery... people say they hate it, but they only hate BAD examples of it.

Can foley survive? Short term, maybe; long term, unlikely.

Fundamentally, it'll come down to the same question as any other technique in any commercial artform... cost vs quality. If foley remains the best way to get a sound, you will find people willing to pay for it. As digital sound creation gets better and better, there WILL come a point where no-one can tell the difference.

If you don't believe me look at guitar amplifiers. For decades, guitarists have preferred old vacuum tubes (known as valves) to generate the sound they want in a guitar amp. Digital (commonly referred to as solid state) amps are cheaper and generally pretty crap.

But these days, even people who love valve amps (and I include myself in that) have to admit that it's almost impossible to tell the difference between a genuine valve amp and a good computer model of the same (side note for guitar techy people... I know modelling != solid state).

And that's not just in playback, it's in live performance too. A kemper or an AxeFX FEELS like a valve amp, and you can vary the settings like a valve amp.

I believe that foley will ultimately go the same way. People like Wes Anderson will continue to use it, but for most filmmakers on a budget, they'll go with the sound creation software.

The art of foley outshines the science of sound editing. If this art dies, we'll be left with what has been digitized and little more. Every scream a Wilhelm, every roar a T-rex.
Computers can't paint with sound, they can barely print with sound files.
I certainly hope new directors understand that.
