EPIC FAIL! Twitch Live Streamer Accidentally Burns His House

EPIC FAIL! Twitch Live Streamer Accidentally Burns His House

Barbar says...

All it takes is a lobotomy.

Note for future fire fighters:
Don't move the fire to a heap of cardboard prior to trying to extinguish it.

Cops doing good deeds

artician says...

Mordhaus covered what I wanted to say about Enoch covering everything we both wanted to say, so I'll just give you an upvote for the decent cops on the video as well.

We know there are good cops in the world, and they outnumber the bad cops, but that doesn't mean it's wrong to extinguish the bad cops.

Explosive Oil Fire at 2500fps - The Slow Mo Guys

SFOGuy says...

Scary if you understand the image of a person pouring a pot full of water onto a flaming stove top oil fire (french fries, fried chicken, etc).

Snuff the fire out by throwing a lid on the pan.
Use an aerosol extinguisher.
Use a "K" class grease extinguisher, or Halon.

Don't throw water.
Burn units are sad, sad places.

Last Week Tonight with John Oliver: Dark Side Of Fashion

AeroMechanical says...

The really tricky part about all this is that, though the wages and conditions are frequently horrible, the workers there do at least have jobs and that makes them much better off then they would likely be otherwise. You don't frequently see reporters asking the workers "Are you glad you have this job?" With the exception of the rare cases of actual forced labor, they are free to quit. They can't, though, because the alternative is worse.

It's not really individual western consumers fault that this is the situation, nor even the global corporations commissioning the work, nor the local factory owners. We are all under the pressure of capitalism. If the factory owner decides to install fire extinguishers or whatever or increase his workers' wages, the contract will go to another factory owner who didn't. If the corporations insist on only doing business with factory owners like the former, one of their competitors will opt for the latter and put them out of business. If we as consumers decide to only purchase from companies who treat their employees well, we will have to buy less and there will be fewer manufacturing jobs in the third world, and the people will be out of work.

There is no solution. Capitalism and overpopulation are at the root of all this, but the alternatives to capitalism have all proven to be even worse so far and overpopulation may well be insoluble.

Aw. Now I'm all depressed. Still. Bad as things look, in most ways they're better on the whole then they were in previous centuries. True, the population continues to grow exponentially, but literacy and education are on the rise worldwide too, and hopefully they will hold the key.

Engineering students use sound waves to put out fires

robbersdog49 says...

There seem to be limitations to the device, as highlighted in the description, but even if this has only a relatively small area where it's going to be useful, it's a great step forwards. To be able to put out a fire without adding any additional damage to the area would be a huge improvement over a lot of traditional methods. Anyone who's set of a water, foam or powder extinguisher will know what I mean!

Payback says...

Might be good for room fires, where the entire area can be smothered until someone can get a regular extinguisher onsite, or possibly increasing the effectiveness of existing extinguishers.

Madonna Gets It In The Neck

Baffled by Stupidity: Richard Dawkins

lantern53 says...

This reminds me of the story of the student and the teacher. It is cold, and the teacher blows on his hands. The student asks why...teacher says he is trying to warm his hands.

When the teacher blows on his cup of tea, the student asks why...teacher says it is to cool the tea.

The student leaves in disgust, as the teacher does the same act for two opposite reactions.

Just because you don't understand it, doesn't mean it is invalid or untrue.

It is sad that Dawkins, if he is right about his atheism, lived a life with no meaning. One brief candle in the darkness, extinguished and forgotten in the vast eternity of the universe. How sad.

The Great Glitch Crisis of 2014

Jinx says...

Actually yes. See Ford Pinto.

But I can see how the mild inconvenience of a buggy game is similar to possible life endangering corner cutting in the manufacture of fire extinguishers.

That said, developers who force you to use mouse acceleration will be first against the wall in my regime.

Oh, and PCGamingWiki is pretty much my favorite website at the moment.

Could you imagine known shippables in other productions? Cars? Computer hardware? FIRE EXTINGUISHERS? Game breaking bugs should not be known shippables.
