Mr. Robot - Full Pilot Episode
So the "E Corp" logo looks a lot like the Enron logo... I'm sure that was a complete coincidence
But yeah, looks like the writers actually talked to someone who understands the internet for a change.
Is the Universe a Computer Simulation?
Shiny,
Yes, intelligent design is a valid theory, but 'Intelligent Design' is not. You know the difference, right?
So far, the only evidence I've ever seen or heard about of 'intelligent design' in biology is in the manipulated biology we humans have designed.
Intelligent design applies to anything WE design, it is not inherent to either chemistry or astrophysics themselves, nor is it a term used in either field.
No, it's not possible to completely DISPROVE the hypothesis, but you must look for it through religion colored glasses to see even the most tenuous evidence of it, without that filter, it's not visible anywhere. It's also not possible for you to prove that golden monkeys don't fly from my anus when you aren't looking, but masquerade perfectly as turds when looked at directly, but you would not believe me if I said that's what happens, even if I had a book that said so, right?
The laws of physics are not "finely tuned" (already implying an 'unseen hand') to allow for life, it's more like life evolved to exist in the conditions present. There's no 'fine tuning' going on, life that couldn't exist in the conditions found doesn't exist, life that could may or may not.
Because you start from a point of "god exists and designed all" and search for things that even loosely fit that hypothesis by looking through religion tinted glasses, you find it. Because I don't have that filter to see the universe through, and do not accept 'unknown mystery' or coincidence as proof of 'god' and/or his hand, they will always be invisible and indeed un-necessary and so not believed in by me, just like my brothers invisible friend.
As I've said many a time, if god exists, he's certainly going to amazingly great lengths to remain unknown, unseen, unfelt, unheard, and un-needed by me and billions of others, and misunderstood by even more.
Because unbelievable hypothesis require indisputable proof, you must know it's impossible for YOU to convince me. Even if 'god' popped into my living room and took me on a sightseeing tour of the universe, I would still say "he" could be an advanced alien, not a deity, and require proof of divinity rather than technology or simple advanced knowledge or ability. If "He" is omnipotent, he knows that, understands that, and only 'he' is capable of proving that, or even knowing how it might be proven....but has failed to do so to date one tiny whit. I'll wait for him to pop in and prove it to me. Until then, thanks kindly for your 'soul saving' effort just the same, but it's never going to succeed. I do appreciate it's done with good intentions...but you do know what they say about good intentions, don't you?
@ChaosEngine @newtboy
If the Universe was in fact programmed, it was intelligently designed. Therefore, intelligent design is a valid scientific theory. Intelligent design is not simply limited to biology, but it is applied (obviously) to practically every scientific discipline, from chemistry to astrophysics. The natural laws are studied, in much the same way as the cosmic rays are being studied, to detect design features.
So, if you believe that DNA was created as a result of a general condition of the laws of the Universe and was not specifically planned, that does nothing to disprove intelligent design. We can simply look at how the laws are finely tuned to allow for life, or if you think that is the result of the general condition of the laws of the multiverse, then we can look at their fine tuning, and so on.
Iron Body Technique
Please note that you -never- see that drill bit even touch his skin, much less turn against it. And if you believe that's just a coincidence, then I've got some great land in Florida to sell you.
It's simple camera trickery. The -only- question left is, do they claim it is real, or do they just call it a performance. That's the difference between a con-man and a stage magician.
...
Yes, the drill was not the right type of bit to go through flesh and he may have been pushing against it, but to not break the skin and for him to resist the pain, that is amazing.

The Last Ever Top Gear
Let's face it.. they did everything, and the shows were becoming more and more contrived, obvious and staged. It was about time it stopped.
The problem with Clarkson is similar to the problem with Al Murray the Pub Landlord. There are people laughing at him because they find the caricature of a racist, sexist moron saying stupid things funny - and they often are funny. There are also people laughing, saying "he's so right!" Clarkson does not have the advantage of being a comedian, and i reject the notion that he is one - he never has been one and could never front a decent comedy set under its own merit. If you want to see a comedian that correctly applies context and frames sexist/racist comments, see Al Murray.
If you find the idea of a man saying "catch a nigger by the toe" funny and somehow feel you're missing out if it isn't said, then we're never really going to see eye to eye. You can wave your hands and pass the buck about whether or not you think he said it all you like, the fact is that Clarkson has been caught red handed doing plenty of stuff like that so that guilt can be reasonably assumed given that it sounded very much like it. Add on top of that the apology - coming from a man who takes a piss on rules and convention, it's an admission of some degree of guilt.
Perhaps if he skirted other issues better, people wouldn't assume he was a fucking idiot. And i'm sorry to say, quite an entertaining idiot. take for example the falkland number plate - what sort of colossal moron believes it was a coincidence? I enjoy many parts of the show, but that doesn't mean i can't think he's completely irresponsible for being racist and for downplaying personal vehicle contribution to global warming when it is undoubtable to anyone who studies the subject appropriately.... which he owes it to the viewers and to the future of fucking humankind to do, considering the reach of his show.
school of life-what comes after religion?
It doesn't really matter how many people identify as atheists, although I only know one person in my circle who says he is one. I would consider him pretty moral, also.
As I said before, the pendulum swings one way, then the other, much like the sexuality of many in Hollywood.
Regardless, how do you explain the rise of some type of religion in every civilization? Atheism is most likely a late development although I don't have the stats on it. It's a 20th century invention, I'm sure.
When it comes to religion, my faith rests on those with experiential knowledge. There are multitudes of people who have had direct experience of God, they generally coincide, whereas how can an atheist explain his experience of 'no God'. He can't do it.
So to believe in God becomes a common sense decision.
If you don't, that's fine, it's your life, live it as you wish. Each man is his own philosopher. If you are miserable, you have a lousy philosophy.

Truly it was quite a coincidence. I just happened to see it on late night and watched the last 1 1/2 hours of it the last time several weeks back.
No, I've seen it probably 4 times. Great movie.
For real? What a coincidence!
Was it for the first time ever?
I haven't seen it in probably a dozen years at least.

I watched it within the last month! Is that cheating?
Sportscaster responds to racism and hate
... Do you even know how long 30 seconds is? Can I come to your next social gathering and hold a sign saying "asshole" in your face for 30 seconds, and then flip it over to say "drink coke" when someone makes me? It would be a fun coincidence for all, I think.
Sportscaster responds to racism and hate
The investigation concluded ·
..." At some time during the FMHS vs. PESH boys’ varsity basketball game, a student displayed the “White” and “Power” combination of cheerleading spirit signs. It has been long-time tradition that cheerleading signs are used at sporting events to read, “Navy & White” representing FMHS’ school colors and “Jaguar Power,” a FMHS mascot cheer.
· The inappropriate ordering of the signs was displayed for no longer than 30 seconds. FMHS administrators immediately took action.
· Reports indicating the FMHS student section was chanting “White Power” during this time were found to be unsubstantiated"
http://www.lisd.net/apps/news/show_news.jsp?REC_ID=442060&id=0
The kid holding the sign POWER is also holding the JAGUAR sign. so apparently he is flipping between signs hence indicating Jaguar Power.
Mr White just happens to be holding his sign WHITE behind the Jaguar Power. sign guy.
Coincidence / deliberate/ is unknown.
So again
People see racism even when its not there. The left are masters at it.
Of course you stand by your statement, because you it is what you really want to believe, and you are too lazy / ignorant / arrogant, to assume that anyone who disagrees is telling the truth or doing their jobs properly. Which the news are. Which the school is (belatedly). Etc.
"Lewisville Independent School District (ISD) interim superintendent Kevin Rogers announced that their week-long investigation into the February 13 sign incident was conducted through a variety of means. Those included witness interviews, including Flower Mound High School (FMHS) and Lewisville ISD administrators, staff, students and spectators; an in-depth review of surveillance and game footage; social media research; and cooperative, continued communication between FMHS and Plano-East Senior High School (PESH) administrators."
Fascinating autism test for "theory of the mind" in children
Makes me wonder if we have a lot of politicians and people who believe them, who are autistic, when they say "we didnt start the violence in the middle east and the massive amount of extremists there right after we used so much violence there and killed so many civilians there is just a coincidence".
Stay With Me - Vintage 1940s "Old Hollywood" Style Sam Smith
While I agree, this may have been the Smart Move™ on Sam Smith's part to avoid a lengthy court battle over royalties and compensation and instead to negotiate a percentage through the writing credit - on the balance of probabilities in a court room a jury may well have found in Tom Petty's favour even if it was chance/coincidence.
But whatever. Sam Smith has a career ahead of him and Tom Petty has plenty of money.
Wow, that is such bullshit.
Not a fan of Sam Smith, but there's no way Petty should get a songwriting credit for that.
Stay With Me - Vintage 1940s "Old Hollywood" Style Sam Smith
Digging up an old post because I just saw this:
http://consequenceofsound.net/2015/01/tom-petty-awarded-songwriting-royalties-for-sam-smiths-stay-with-me/
"Tom Petty awarded songwriting royalties for Sam Smith’s “Stay With Me”"
“Recently the publishers for the song ‘I Won’t Back Down,’ written by Tom Petty and Jeff Lynne, contacted the publishers for ‘Stay With Me,’ written by Sam Smith, James Napier and William Phillips, about similarities heard in the melodies of the choruses of the two compositions. Not previously familiar with the 1989 Petty/Lynne song, the writers of ‘Stay With Me’ listened to ‘I Won’t Back Down’ and acknowledged the similarity.
“Although the likeness was a complete coincidence, all involved came to an immediate and amicable agreement in which Tom Petty and Jeff Lynne are now credited as co-writers of ‘Stay With Me’ along with Sam Smith, James Napier and William Phillips.”
I liked this song better when it's sung by Tom Petty and called "Won't Back Down."
Robotic Dental Android Patient - Learn Dentistry Today
Out of coincidence I stumbled upon your queery to a long gone comment in time.
When I was younger and more liberal with the tripe I filled the internet with I was quoting this movie scene, in a sexual way that the robots mouth might be used in a sexual way. I am sure 75 percent out of two guys first thought that thought when watching the video.
I'm quite sure I've no idea what you mean.
I very much like that it answers questions, cos you know, one of the key skills of a dentist is to ask open questions while the patient has a mouth full of tubes.
Bill Nye's Answer to the Fermi Paradox
Well, first you must determine the average lifespan of a species...impossible until we survey the entire universe.
Then you must determine the average distance between populated planets.
Then you must determine the 'lifespan' of all possible transmission technologies (on average). (how long 'they' emit that kind of transmission)
Then you must determine the maximum range and speed of any transmissions, and what form those transmissions are in, which is what most of this video is about. Now we're looking in 2 small ranges of possible wave form communications for the first time. Subtract any with a maximum range lower than the distance from transmission to us (another unknowable).
Then you must determine how many ranges of not just wave form energy are we ignoring, but how many other forms of communication/emission/energy might there be that we aren't looking for or even conceiving their existence (another impossible question to answer)?
Only once ALL those (impossible) questions are answered (and I'm certain more that are unknown but important variables) can you do even preliminary calculations to determine how statistically likely it should really be to 'find' evidence of extra-planetary species/civilizations, and that number is almost definitely tiny by any standard.
To think they might be 'here' already, you must either assume they are a space fairing species (which would also indicate a species that 'raids' planets and moves on, not one that settles and/or trades, so lets hope not) or you must assume they have much faster than light travel, which if true, should mean one would expect to see aliens 'teleporting' everywhere, and likely some crazy looking evidence of the transportation method. If neither of these are true (space fairing or faster than light travel) you would not expect to ever hear or see them.
Since technology evolves, so do the types of transmissions that technology produces. To think that in the time frame a single type of transmission is used somewhere in the universe (+ travel time) we'll be searching for exactly that type of transmission form would be such an INSANELY unlikely coincidence that many would see it as proof of god (because it couldn't statistically happen naturally, like a babble fish).
What this means is, unless we become space fairing raiders ourselves, or find faster than light travel ourselves, we'll likely be alone forever, even if there is other intelligent life out there.
There's just too much to search in too many ways over too long a time span, like looking for a single protozoa in the entire ocean, when you don't know what it looks like or even what a protozoa is, and the protozoa only exists for one random week in your life time.
That's where I think they are....unfindable.
He is understanding it, the paradox is, the earth is billions of years old,Our modern society is only a few hundred years old, but there should be civilizations out there who are millions of years old,its not that we should be "hearing' them ,but that they should be here..like flying around..they should have populated the galaxy by now..There should be many, many civilizations which are millions of years old..and they should be readily identifiable by the many signals filling our galazy....where the fuck are they?
Chicken Itza Genius Sound Engineering
It may have been just a coincidence... Genius sound engineering my arse.
