Basic human empathy?

I can't predict the future accurately, but I can say that there is a high probability (certainly more likely than not) that climate change is going to hit humanity hard.

Now I suspect we'll get through it. We've survived ice ages and so on. It's just gonna suck for a few decades/centuries.

In fact, the only real solution I see to climate change is to significantly extend the average human lifespan. If everyone alive was suddenly going to be here for the next 200 years, you might see some actual policy change at the highest levels.

It's a good thing I'm white, because I did get caught illegally growing "drugs" at 18, was offered "drug diversion" which was 4 hours watching film strips about drugs and 6 months of lax probation, then my record was expunged with no felony....not even a fine, just $200 for the program fees.

I seriously doubt I would have gotten the same treatment if I wasn't a white college student at the time.

Because of that special treatment, I managed to keep my charge a secret from even my mother until this Xmas when I finally told her.... 30 years after the fact. I know others who went to prison for longer than my probation over a joint....in another state.

You and your brand of conservative don't care about wasted money. You would have supported spending any amount to investigate Obama over anything, many tried to waste millions on Trump's idiotic and racist birther fraud....and you did support all the multi millions wasted investigating Clinton. You were all for wasting $200 million or more on a Republican publicity stunt at election time, and all for wasting billions on dumb and unnecessary trade wars, or billions more in ill advised government shutdowns over wasteful multi billion dollar vanity projects Trump could have just said were complete already to placate his base, you would believe it.

They found plenty of snakes under the rocks they already turned over. Now they have one of the snakes telling them which rocks to look under. Of course they're going to look, of course they'll continue to uncover snakes. It's false hope to think suddenly there's no more Trump administration crime to uncover, it's far more likely we're just scratching the surface. Thank goodness Trump can't pardon his co-conspirators state charges, or avoid them himself.

Since that's not the norm in most places, I've understood we are doomed almost since I first heard of over population exceeding the sustainable food production levels, then along came global warming and ocean acidification. I understand that most people today are not capable of long term responsibility....making decisions based on how they effect their great grandchildren. It only took one century of living for today to set up a situation that threatens to destroy the planet. I see less than no hope of staving off disaster, instead of even trying we're firing all rockets at 110% to speed up the process and arguing over possibly turning down the thermostat next year.

We went 2016 because tickets were <$200 roundtrip from the West coast on wow air.....air bnb was everywhere and great, most attractions were free and amazing, zero crowds, we drove the entire island in a week without rushing, everyone speaks English well, and because Formula Offroad, which I finally saw in person after years of disbelief. It's a shame that they didn't mention the negative effects of pesticides on the soil and environment.

For example there are pesticides that damage the soil and earthworms so badly that the soil becomes infertile.

I really want to see a serious commitment from developed nations on vertical farming though. You can eliminate so many issues, from water use, land use, and most of the transport problems - the office building next door could be a farm....and of course you don't need pesticides if you are growing things in a controlled environment.

We could give so much land back to mother nature. And perhaps we would stop losing 200 species of plants/animals each day.

At least they acknowledged that eating plants of any kind is more environmental than eating animal products. That's something we can all strive for ourselves. But it will require some government intervention or some really good start ups to start vertical farming. Where are my Tesla potato farms? :-)

Legalizing drugs introduce competition to the market thus lowering profits.

Legalizing drugs will reduce future prison populations thus lowering profits.

Legalizing drugs will make drug abuse a health crisis and not a crime. The government can handle a health crisis. This would force people like me to shift a sizable portion of my investments out of the very lucrative sectors that profit from the current regime running the country.
