There's no point in getting into it, because it's tiresome, long-winded and probably futile. But sometimes when I see people wanking on about how shit Obama and the state of affairs in the US is, I want to bellow from the rooftops, "YOU THINK YOU'VE GOT IT BAD??????" I despair danny, half the time I don't know what to think. I'm thinking about retreating back into my bubble...

Having said that, I'm so glad you're up for using your vote this time, too. This is what needs to be pushed forward now, people using their votes to bolster the other parties, bring them into the spotlight so that people at least consider other options. The Labour/Cons/Dems need some competition, they need to be put in a position where they have to TRY HARDER! We simply cannot survive with the choices we've got now. Well we can, but I'd rather fucking not!

WOW...still regret that I voted for him, but he's a knowledgeable guy.

Hey mate, don't worry about it, you did the right thing, something had to keep the republicans out. I urge you to do it again.

No I didn't. You don't choose the lesser of two evils, you make the system work and produce better results. Obama is a war criminal.

I agree, so I guess a non-vote would have been in order, considering your two-party system. However, I like to look at the silver linings and in my opinion, your vote ensured that things didn't get as bad as they probably would have had McCain/Palin gotten in to power. And, all leaders are war criminals, or just criminals...

I've never voted in my life, because I refuse to pick the best of a bad bunch... but I will be using my vote next election tactically, because until other parties have a chance in hell, we're all doomed.

One day we're gonna find out we're long lost twins or something @<a rel="nofollow" href="http://videosift.com/member/alien_concept" title="member since February 14th, 2008" class="profilelink"><strong style="color:#00ffa2">alien_concept..

I've not voted either, ever. I detest the system, i think the voting system and potentially democracy is flawed or limited and we'll end up in a species-rut because of it, working against each other until we run out of resources and die.

But i know i can't sit here complaining about the rich fucking manor-born tories stealing our country from under us if i didn't help to keep them out. I know me and everyone like me is responsible for them getting in.

I should have at least spoiled my paper or been more active in my protest if i wanted to protest the system in that way.

I was hoping the riots were the start of something. Change has to come from the youth and i suppose soon i won't be in that category anymore!

You're pointing out that he didn't mean Iran assassinated its own scientist?

It doesn't matter the reason, it would still be dumb to murder the people that are leading their research.

If they were defectors, they could just hold them in prison indefinitely like they do journalist or spys or anyone else.

Anyway you slice it, the premise is lacking.

p.s. - I'm always vehement. It just comes up more on the sift.

It seems to me you made a mistake in your understanding of his post, and now you're adhering to it vehemently There's no point reacting at me, i'm just pointing out he didn't mean that.

Its Schrodinger's cat all over !

Uhh, That cat just died. Or it was badly hurt. Look at the view and things in the distance. This window is at least a second floor possibly 3rd

Dunno about what you see in the distance, but what i see is a corner wall and given the angle involved, i'd be forced to guess one up from ground floor. That's assuming the house isn't on a raised bit of land.

You also don't know whether there was a garage roof underneath, a pool, a pond, a little tree or bush, a kitchen extension... the list is endless.

I also feel like the reaction would be more significant if it had fallen a really huge distance. If they wanted the cat to die they'd want to film it, and if they wanted it to live they'd be desperate to see if it was ok.

I hear that noise !

I can't see the harm. And if it means i can filter out music videos, i might actually be able to look through some videos without seeing a load of mass-music-videos posts. I'm a miserable cynical bastard though, and if you could remove any video that i thought only served to raise star levels, the sift would probably be 1/10th as big.. so up with diversity and up with me not having to trawl through crap

Deano says...

Thanks for the comments and kind words, really appreciate it.

First and foremost it's definitely about SEEING the skills being performed. The end result being on show e.g the painting, sculpture, cool machine etc isn't enough.

The focus is initially on two areas. First, dexterity, where people perform everyday actions in an incredible way and in the realm of craftsmanship.
The exception here is mostly musical - for example many people can play the guitar very, very well and there's not much to be gained therefore by including lots of music videos in the channel. And how well someone sings is definitely a matter of opinion. I'm not against a few masters of their art being included but the vast majority would not.

Secondly physical feats. There's a lot of skill to be seen in controlling and applying the human body in various ways. We already have some breakdancing because the skill level there is clearly high. Popping could also be added. Martial arts is looking to be popular but to avoid a flood I will try to only select the best (and eventually a martial arts channel will appear and I'd hate to have a lot of overlap).
The exception is mostly going to be professional sports where the skill level can be variable and a product of the team ethic. So most sport clips would not be in skillful though I can see a classic Messi goal getting in

So mental skills. That's really interesting and initially that sounds just fine to me. My concern is that if it's not externalised in some way then the video might not be that interesting. I'd like to see some example videos. Chess sounds good and so does world records because that's someone doing something exceptional. Great oratory might be more subject to debate and opinion particularly if you don't agree with what's being said. For that reason I suggest keeping those within politics/talks/comedy.
Another exception for this might be anything in the Magic channel. Where the underlying skills are partially hidden because the performer is trying to fool the audience.

Glad to have you onboard! I hope the above sounds reasonable but if it can be further modified then let me know what you think.

Hey deano, this is probably my favourite channel. I've never even had a favourite channel before, because they never provided me with what i wanted.

So is it specifically for demonstrations of skill? As in, a video of the mona lisa is not skillful, but someone drawing the mona lisa, that's being skillful. But also, couldn't certain music videos be included then? Break dancing, body popping? Does it have to be practical skill? Could mental skill be involved? A game of chess, or perhaps Richard Feynmann videos? Oratory skill perhaps? What about world records and stuff?

Or is it like an overall feeling - if you feel like wow, they just did something incredible then it's skillful? But then i'd still need to know where you stand on mental skill.

Sorry to pepper you with questions, but it's the first time a channel has held any interest for me.

there doesnt seem to be anything to discuss further.
you found my apology insincere and i found your last comment on my post loaded and just itching to have a go.
i dont think anything positive can come of that.do you?
we have never had a problem before i dont see any reason to start one now based solely on misunderstanding each other.
i respect a man who recognizes that.
peace brother.

enoch says...

is that what you feel i am doing?
then i apologize.
because normally it is not something i tend to worry about.i really dont care.i post what i like.if you like it..great..if not? meh../shrugs.no biggy.
maybe it is my fault for not actually posting the backstory (which i did in comments) which may clear up my reactionary response.
i have a very strong connection with that woman and tend to be extremely protective, always have been of people i love but her especially.the reasons should become clear when you read the backstory.

i tend to side with you in the sense that you were just commenting on the video.taking the opportunity to take a shot (an easy one, lets be honest) at the video while not making it a direct comment on the poster.

i agree with that policy but i did state that i had a personal connection with this young woman, but it seems i should have not been lazy and explained the backstory.

so again,i apologize if it appears im putting the "squeeze" on you.
but i hope i clarified my protective nature concerning this young woman.i really should have anticipated this.i just wanted to share cuz i thought the whole video is funny and it brought back good memories for me.
ah well.epic fail on my part i guess.
we good?
