Shameless self-promotion

So I recently decided that I was going to attempt to watch every movie from the book "1001 Movies you must see before you die" and read every book from "1001 Books you must read before you die," and of course, blog about it.  I'm sure I'll lose interest before I read/watch all 2002, but in the meantime the blog is here:

It's brand new, so let me know if anything's wonky.

Just thumbing through the list, there are some good movies there. I was looking for a foreign film called Man Facing Southeast, didn't find it, but came across A Man Escaped on there. Classic! While watching it, think about how Speilberg shot the adults in ET (without faces and heads). Bresson does the same in this movie (obviously his version came first), and it works well to make the Nazis faceless automatons.

I know it's not on the list, but you should certainly check out Man Facing Southest if you can find it. Come to think of it, that's a metaphoric story of Christ very much like ET. Well look at that! Two movies with similarities to ET in one post. Ain't I cool?

Nice idea, one that I've wanted to do myself (although not to 1001 levels, more top 100 of each), and have been doing so, sort of, with books (picking classics that I've heard of a lot but never read... currently on neuromancer). And my wife an I did it a bit for a while (kinda starting and stopping with the Godfather trilogy which we had managed to neither of us ever see... and as far as I'm concerned, number one is brilliant, but I don't get the praise for number 2 really)... but having four kids 6yrs and under puts a bit of a break on movie watching, let me tell you.

Sorry, my brain is mathematical. My OCD wouldn't let me not do this:
1001 books at 1 book per week: 19.25 years to finish
1001 movies at 2 hours per movie: 83.41 straight days of movies
Also, what about 1001 places to see before you die?

Not entirely certain that that book is on the 1001 Books to Read Before You Die.

So he might not get a chance to know what's in it, due to read all those other books!
