World Record Minesweeper: 38 sec.

fireflysays...

As far as I know it's real. This is from the YouTube site:

"Minesweeper Clone and Minesweeper Arbiter are what all the best times are done on now. They can record every click, every mouse movement etc. and make a video file with this information (and those files are very small downloads), and you can play other peoples videos back on your computer. Also, they're harder to hack than the original (which has a big exploit) and have many great features."

Personally, I've never had the patience to figure the game out myself.

you can type in an easter egg code into original minesweeper and a pixel changes to tell you if there is a mine or not when you hover mouse cursor over a square.

1: Start Minesweeper & type "xyzzy". (hold shift key for 1 sec ?? )
2: Draw the mouse across the blocks.
3: Go over a mine and the very top left-hand corner of the screen
will go black.
4: Place a flag on the spaces where this occurs.
5: Click on all other spaces as fast as possible to beat everyone else

I believe this video is using an exploit, notice some of the time part of the board is opened up but then moves on unclicked. I believe the other easter egg it to click and hold then left right click and another square and it will let you know if that was a bomb or not.

joedirt. I think what you are seeing is where you hold down both mouse buttons on an uncovered square. It shows you all the connected squares and if the full number of mines for that square have been found then it uncovers all the remainder.

I used to be addicted to that game, back when i was on holidays with the family and had nothing better to do for 6 hours a day for 3 weeks.

At the height of my talents I could go about half as fast as that guy/gal.. freaky work if its not cheating.

Schusays...

Hi, I'm the guy that uploaded this to youtube, I've been googling around "minesweeper world record" to see what other places are claiming as a WR. It definitely isn't cheating, I met the guy in July and saw him get a 43 expert in person. I've gotten a 58 myself.

Joedirt, cobalt is correct. Ivegotthebends, when you play a board that has already been played, it's called UPK (unfair prior knowlege) and how you can spot that is that the smiley goes blue.
