Warcraft Full trailer

This looks like shit to be honest. But, it looks like they are starting with Orcs vs. Humans, when they should have begun where we are now with Warcraft: undead, trolls, mages, warlocks, elves, lots of magic - etc etc.

That would've been suicide. It'd be like starting the movies for the Harry Potter series on book 4. Sure, you'd have a fanbase that knows the source material and would understand what's going on, but it would alienate everyone who hasn't read the books, and now they don't wanna go see it.

At least this way with it being (somewhat relatively close to) orcs vs humans, we establish the general base for what happens, so if it's a success they can continue down the story.

There's foreshadowing in the trailer anyway, the orc that sends the baby down the river, I'm guessing the baby is Thrall.

Which already kinda mucks up the storyline.. because that more involves parts of warcraft II.. Either way, I thought it looked pretty decent. I'm hoping a bit more work goes into making the orcs look a little more.. not CGI in a couple of those scenes, but I'll probably go see it.

Also, there's SOOOOOOOOOOOO many little easter eggs in this that i've found, so i'll just list a few (that hopefully won't contain spoilers)

Lakeshire from Redridge Mountains is there
Dalaran is in the sky
Karazhan is there, with what appears to be an old Khadgar, or Medivh
there's a scene with a young Varian Wrynn
The scene with the alliance gathered around the table has a dwarf, and elves.
Potentially Sylvannas and Kael'thalas in it
Gul'dan is (Very VERY) briefly in this
The Dark Portal (not open, the wraith statue gate) can be seen twice

and there's a couple more very spoiler heavy ones i'll leave out.

Sarzysays...

Well, Jones is finally making Mute next -- the original sci-fi film he's been trying to get off the ground for like a decade -- so if nothing else, Warcraft has raised his profile and allowed him to make more films he's passionate about. So whether or not it's a waste of his talents (which remains to be seen, though this trailer is pretty meh), it'll bring us more films like Moon, so clearly it's not all bad.

ChaosEnginesaid:

@mentality, is it ok now if I say this looks like a waste of Duncan Jones talents, or do I actually need to sit through this second rate hobbit/games workshop ripoff?

mentalitysays...

No. You know nothing about the movie. Give the man a chance before shitting all over his work before it's even out. It's disrespectful and condescending, especially since during interviews Duncan seems genuinely enthusiastic and happy about this movie.

Once the movie comes out and it's proven to be bad, then criticize away, say it's a waste of Duncan's talents, moan about how low he has sunk, whatever is deserved. I may even join you. But until then, by saying such shit, you're just acting like a cynical hater over the internet.

Meh, really don't care what you think; it still looks like shit.

I didn't need to see twilight to know it was bollocks and so far, there's nothing here that even vaguely interests me. Maybe when it comes out and other people whose job it is to sit through this garbage give it a good review, I might change my mind, but until then I will retain a healthy dose of cynicism.
