UIC Student Beats the Westboro Baptist Church

University of Illinois student Jason Connell used the appearance of the hate group to raise money for queer rights groups such as Human Rights Campaign, International AIDS Foundation and Chicago based Jerusalem Open House. Donations were named in honor of the Westboro Baptist Church and community thank you cards will be sent from the non-profits to WBC leader Fred Phelps. Connell called it a, "Lemons to Lemonade" situation.

Just brilliant. Just brilliant. Take this example for so many conflicts around the world. Don't get angry and agitated and stoop to their level, take their hateful words as a way of spurring others to do more good.

A GRADE sir. May this become a worldwide trend for dealing with hateful groups.

Hat off to this guy for turning the tables on the RL trolls.

A requirement of being a troll is saying things you don't really believe. WBC members really believe it, which makes them dumbass fundamentalists rather than trolls.

An earnest provocateur can be very good or very bad depending on his views, but is not a troll regardless.

^ Nah, you're thinking of internet trolls. Real-life trolls are simpler, they're just mean, nasty brutish critters.

That said, I'm thinking I may follow his example next time these folks come to my town. Especially if I'm still unemployed.
