... might be the neighborly thing to do to spread some sand and salt out there?
... no? just me? sorry, I'll keep quiet.

I'm gonna move to Seattle soon and I was just thinking that one day if this happens I'm gonna set up a camera on a tri-pod and go pour salt and sand on the street. Because everyone is doing it wrong and apparently we need a how-to video!

Flat roads are bad enough. Throw in a hill, add in SUVs on a hill (probably) without snow-tires. Good-times.

It's a good thing a few of those drivers knew how to evade. SLC still gets some of these same issues with people driving their sedan/semi-sports car with standard tires. Looks exactly the same, but you don't need a hill to have them slide.

/I would NEVER live at the bottom of a hill in any wintry prone town.

So, they don't know how to not lock their breaks? I think the first vehicle had anti-lock.

Sucks to have insurance in that area. "There have been 50 claims in that area so we are increasing your premiums by 300%"

So living here, the problem is they don't know how to care for the roads...that and people don't know how to drive on it. When you get around 2" of snow a year (once, maybe twice for a few days) I think the state just thinks it's not worth it to have the capacity to deal with it. Now, that is only the West side of the state (seattle and surrounding areas). Eastsiders don't have a problem driving in snow. As for do people have studded tires, nope. Same reason as the state . Truthfully last year we literally had no snow in the lower areas.

And to be fair to the people in the video, many places that do get snow are quite flat...seattle is not a flat place at all

A few winters back in southern Ontario, I saw a city bus sliding sideways down a hill on a 4-lane road, and I could hear everyone screaming as it slid all the way down. Pretty wild. Didn't hit anything though.

Hell I know I wouldn't be out there trying to salt the road with that kind of driving as an example of what to expect. That's why you have government, so they can get the authorities out there if need be to close the street until it's safe to navigate. Only takes one or two people getting ran over by out of control cars to get them to act if they aren't used to handling winter conditions.

I know of a number of roads in my area they close down in winter because they are low roads and all the run off keeps re-freezing them into solid sheets of ice on it's way to the river. And they aren't afraid to declare winter emergencies that make it illegal for you to be out on the roads in most circumstances.

To be fair we have our fair amount of idiot drivers who think it's cool to do the speed limit on very poor condition freeways, and often times speed while the rest of the traffic is going 20 and 30 under due to conditions.

Anti-lock brakes are worthless here. As far as your car is concerned, you're safely stopped. >> ^sadicious:

Depends on the car. Mine can definitely tell the difference and won't lock up on ice.

Of course, that doesn't matter if it starts sliding sideways.
