I SO Hate hearing it in movies, and I notice it pretty much any time it happens.

It's almost as bad as, well, it's a hard one to explain, it's a kind of (kii woosh) eplosiony sound thing that seems to be used far, far too much. It's hard to explain, it's used as a backdraft sound sometimes, and just all round explosion thing. I'll try and find an example of it. (AHAH, I remembered it from the intro to Magic Carpet from 1994 of all places... it's here at 3:22 (skip forward to it, terrible intro) It gets used EVERYWHERE and I hate, hate, hate it

Ohhhh man spoco, Magic Carpet is FULL of sound effects that I've heard too often.

I am pretty sure that sound effect really originates from magic carpet (and was later sold into a effects library).
And its incredibly common. If you add games, even more so than the wilhelm scream.
Nearly every racing/space/ect game has it somewhere.

The scream from the film "Doctor strangelove, or how I learnt to stop worrying and love the bomb" is used quite alot.

I'm constantly hearing the doors from Doom 1 all over the place, especially in commercials. Keep expecting to hear the roars of Imps.
