Louis CK "What f'n chance does a kid have?"
kymbossays...

I think this is possibly his best piece, followed by the bit he does about hitting kids.

I'm pretty sure this is on here already, though Edna. And I wouldn't be surprised if you sifted the original!

Agree with him... as a father of four, I agree with him.

Now... I'm not of the school of 'no tv, no video games, no fast food'... but I am of the school of IN MODERATION!

And any time one of the kids shows signs of being a little dependant on the video games, it's unplugged and put away for a week or more.

I fricken HATE the biscuits (BBQ shapes, pizza shapes, all that sort of thing) which you can just smell as soon as you open a box of them. The ridiculously overpowering smell of flavour enhancer 621, chemicals, chemicals, chemicals.

Our kids love fruit, there's always a bowl, we have 2 plum trees, an apple and a lemon tree and are growing our first crop of veggies in our veggie patch. Our kids always have a selection of raw vegetables with their meals.

When I see parents who always give their kids cordial or soft drink, or... oh this annoys me... if they give them milk they always add flavour to it, so it's strawberry or chocolate milk... ARGH! WATER and Milk are the two drinks our kids get at home.

But yeah, not militant on the TV or games etc, I have great fun sitting down with the kids to watch a movie, or playing a Wii game with them. I had those experiences as a kid, so why shouldn't they? But I also had time limits, as do they.

He excels when he attacks our modern culture. Just like the "you're in a chair in the sky" bit, his rants regarding common sense are my favorite. Because he's right....and you know he's right.

I think the most offensive thing about children watching television is not the shows themselves as much as the advertisements. THAT'S what causes ADHD, 30 second visual and audio attacks constructed to manipulate children. How can a parent let some corporation prey on their children like that? Commercials advance such terrible social stereotypes, as well. You're not cool if you don't have this. You've succeeded if the other children fawn over your stuff.

My son watches a decent amount of television -- a couple hours scattered throughout the day. But he never sees a commercial. It's mostly Netflix streaming and some DVDs. And what he does watch is relatively tame and often educational. I mean, you can't accuse Dora the Explorer or Thomas the Tank engine of being an assault on the child's senses. Those are slow paced, have long developing narratives, and are somewhat educational.

The only thing that's wrong, but right in "more healthy" aspect is the Pepsi (unless that's the ONLY way you get your mass water). The "eight/six/whatever glasses of water" a day is bunk science. Water is in almost everything you could eat or drink. Otherwise a microwave would be useless. Pepsi is mostly water, but the high-fructose corn syrup is the horrific part and the sodium to a lesser extent.

I'd much rather buy Kool-Aid or Tang as it's easier for the body to digest and you can decide the concentration level.

The one thing I hate about soft-drinks is that I like to have more water and less syrup--it becomes sickening at normal levels. Which is why I think 7-11, Maverick, Holiday, or wherever else you go tastes better from the fountain as it's usually toned down syrup wise.)

Everything else he brings up is dead on. Anyway, back too teh funny!
