Babies Taught to Save Themselves from Drowning

You just want to jump in and get that baby! Hard to watch, but this baby has been taught to relax and float and wait for help.

quote from the program:
"The ISR mission is to get to the next child before that child gets to the water. The reality of infant and child drowning is that, in most cases, it is a preventable tragedy."

if yer little chunker is being a pill in his/her blanket-sleeper and goes into the pool, hope that he/she is ISR certified. another idea is to keep track of your kids.

My parents did that to me, but in an empty pool.

No, seriously, my parents put me through a similar program that basically entailed tossing a baby into a pool and letting them naturally turn on their backs.

You people are soft. I got taught swimming this way but I was 10 at the time. Doing it when it's a baby is even better, the baby still has its nostrils locked I believe from floating in the womb, so it's easier for it to learn how to swim.

The reason most older people drown is because of sheer fear, our primitive instincts will always save you if you let them but if a person is terrified then yes they will drown.

Infants swimming??? What a shocker! It's not like they have a born reflex not to breath while under water.

How can anyone over the age of 6 not know how to swim? Needless to say, I've always lived near the sea.

I learned how to swim by this method, it's the flying I never took on to. Countless adults would just throw me into the air, I suspect because they wanted me to learn how to fly. Alas, I failed and continually they had to catch me.

Humans, as with most mammals, are able to swim instinctively at a very young age. They're covered with fat, so they float easily, and they also instinctively hold their breath when submersed. It's not until you become older that you develop a fear of the water and begin to over think what would be an otherwise natural process.

I've long wished my parents had tossed me into a pool as a baby. I can barely swim; with great effort I can keep myself afloat for a few minutes; and it took me years to accomplish just that. Had I "learned" to swim before I learned to be afraid, maybe I'd be a great swimmer now.

This is Bullshit! I don't doubt that the course helps an infants natural swimming instincts, but if their mission really was to "get to the next child before that child gets to the water," then they would distribute instructional videos, not advertisements. Sure, going to the course would be way better, but not everyone can afford the $75/week "registration" fee.
What, only the rich kids are worth saving?
