Senate says "no" to background checks for guns - Maddow

Nithern says...

Lets correct that. Its a lost for the American people, a win for the Gun Industry! By removing this concept, criminals can still get guns just as easily without the need for expensive forgeries. Would it stop gun violence from taking place? If we could see both realities before they happen, that would give us enough knowledge to decide on the merits of both actions. Unfortunately, we can not do that.

Another thing, if you think you can just walk on out to your car, and deal there, by-passing the gun show (with background check laws in effect) and laughing 'Those dumb libs didn't think of this'. That's just moments before the police/FBI nail you when you sell the guns without following the law. Now your a criminal! Who will sell guns to a known criminal? Only criminals. You forget that the USA can use drones for police enforcement....

Even further, selling guns behind closed doors, under the table, or down alleyways does everything to undermine the slogan "Honest and Law-Abiding Gun Owner".

A victory for the American people.

We don't need yet another law that wont be enforced. Enforce the ones on the books.

The senators did not fail to do their job. It is a bad bill that no one wants.
It was so bad that the Democrats voted against it.

If you force gun shows to do background check then everyone will find away to get around that. They will have a gun show with no guns inside but everyone will be wheeling and dealing in the parking lot.

For every law there is a loop hole.

Sentencing on the other had is a different story.
Quit giving those who use guns to commit crime a light sentence. Make those who use guns in crimes have exceedingly harsh Sentencing and use it.

Short film BP doesn't want you to see

Nithern says...

I'm up in New England. It really brings saddness to see my fellow Americans down there, coming to the reality of events and circumstances. They will be losing their businesses, livelyhoods, and way of existance. Many will have to find different jobs, and move else where. I can really feel that dispair, when I watch stuff like this. And the powerlessness they feel, and I myself, to aid them in a time of need.

I hope those folks down there, learn from this. Learn what caused all this, and blame the correct criminals. The President really would love to do more. That much is apparent. But, the regulations and regulators have been removed over the last few decades by the GOP (whom even know is trying to make you believe its not their fault). The nation is strapped for cash, and people are out of work in other parts as well. Still, there is aid going there from all over.

You want other industries in the USA screwing up? Vote Republican. They really do look out for the executives of the major companies operating in the USA. As we observed from one major Republican last week, who apologized to BP. If the folks down there want to see some real help coming their way, vote Democrat. That really is the truth of the matter.

Quick! What's the Best Dinosaur? Wrong!!!!

BP Rent a Cop Halts Media Coverage

Nithern says...

"Let's think about it a minute. If BP/the gov't gives carte blanche for all reporters, what's going to happen? The next day they're going to have thousands of reporters standing in the way of the actual work being done. All of the workers will be talking to reporters instead of working. They will create a disruption."

Yes, because workers are to ignorant to say "Mr. Reporter, I'm here to do a job, and cant talk now."? Reporters, generally are an intelligent lot (except for Fox News reporters...). They'll keep out of the way. They might even ask to help, if only to explain to the general public what the task is like to do. Reporters would not cause any disruptions, unless someone is doing something illegal in the first place. Last I checked, 'Freedom of the Press' trumps corporate shannanigans.

"I'm not defending BP for the oil spill at all, but having a little fucking common sense, people. The media does have access. There's a web cam on the spill itself for Christs' sake. That does NOT mean any random person can just walk right up to it and get in the way. It's no difference than me going to the White House, and after being denied access, claiming that because of that, they have something to hide."

Is that camera in place due to the press? Or by BP? Did BP do that, in the goodness of its corporate heart? Or threaten? And if some random person can just, as you say '...walk right up to it and get in the way." You do realize, that camera is about a mile UNDER THE WATER? Do you have any idea, how much pressure is exerted on the human body, a mile under water? I think it is safe to say, NO ONE, not even Aquaman, will be 'wandering' up to the pump or the camera, looking at the pump. And you can claim your a reporter, and show up at the White House. And if your not on the approved listed of people, from a creditible news agency, they'll laugh in your face, as they should. There are news reporters at the White House on a daily basis.

And yes, you *ARE* defending BP, since, you did start your comment off 'bitching' at hippies.

"Also, take a look at that shot. It's dead. There's not a ton of reporters there. Everyone knows the rules"

There's not alot of reporters there, BECAUSE, as the reporter (that black guy you say), pointed out: BP doesn't want reporters monitoring, studying, and observing how it does things. So, if BP doesn't want that, it will do what it can to keep said reporters away from reporting anything, including the truth.

"Do keep this in mind one day when you finally go over the edge, and after mowing down half a school's worth of kids in your Prius after a hella cocaine bender, the media can't follow you right into your place of work because you too enjoy protections like the workers of BP! Isn't America wonderful."

Ah yes, the confusing ramblings of a conservative Republican. Only in America, do we have a whole section of our population that can ignore reality for their version of 'Fantasy Land'. Reporters can't follow me in to where I work, because its....PRIVATE PROPERTY. A PUBLIC BEACH, is just that. Its OPEN TO THE PUBLIC. Maybe you should go look up the definations of the words 'private' and 'public' as its refers to property. You might be enlightened.

Seattle officer punches girl in face during jaywalking stop

Nithern says...

The video starts off, without much context (i.e. a start point), and after the issue has already started. From this video, it is not clear why the officer is dealing with the person in question. That is not the fault of the officer, but the person with the camera. Someone mentioned, this was started due to jay-walking. While not a crime often pursued, it is a crime in most cities and quite alot of towns in the USA. So, in a sense, the officer is well within his right to speak to the suspect and question them. But this *ISNT* in the video.

Now, when the second person assaults the officer, the officer is well within his right to defend himself. Maybe that girl should be lucky he didn't pull out his sidearm and point it at her! Likewise, a crowd forming around one, lone, officer, whom are behaving more like a mob to lynch, then to gank; should make any law enforcement person concern.

A person is considered INNOCENT until proven GUILTY! Whether its the suspect(s) or the police officer.

Countdown 6/7/10 - Worst Persons

Nithern says...

"I don't know because I didn't look it up." -Glenn Beck-

Yeah, that about explains 95% of Glenn Beck's rants against reality. But then, if he look stuff up, and reported facts, would we be having as much fun laughing at him? And the people that believe him at face value?

Buying small arms in Somalia

Nithern says...

You know, a fresh coat of paint, better looking wood stalls, and some germanic ancestory sellers there, and I'd thought it was a Texas gun show. Not much of a difference between the seller's and those I've seen at some gun shows. And the prices aren't to off either...

Seriously, if your going to make an arguement for or against, showing stastics that heavily favor your arguement will never win over the other side.

If firearms did deter crime, why is crime still taking place in those areas? Last I checked, a firearm can't protect you from identity theft, nor a chemical spill. They do not protect you from guys on Wall Street, selling you a derviatives future contract that will ulimately fail, cus they engineered it to fail (i.e. Goldman Sachs). Or your business of shrimp, cus some group of idiots short-cutted design plans that spills 18K of oil barrels/day.

Yes, a firearm would protect me, when some mugger attacks to. So would my man-eating dog, platoon of USMC's, or Ashbringer (WoW sword). So to, to being observant of the enviroment and hence, not walking in to an ambush in the first place!

Sarah Palin Real Estate Speech Bombs

Nithern says...

Hey Sarah, dont quit your day job! And if you did, don't go in to real estate. Or any other industry that requires 1) Education above 6th grade andd 2) Maturity above a 4th grader. But then, did any expect Sarah Palin to be able to talk on something useful and on the topic? Real Estate people, are typically Republican, but MODERATE Republicans. The stuff her Tea Partiers enjoy will never work to real estate brokers/agents.

I recall a speech Mr. Clinton gave a few years ago, on real estate. While the speech was to help promote a Democrat, he stuck to the topic at hand. He explain the factors, the politics, and enviromental conditions from a politically-neutral stand point. Something a broker or CFP would do.

It doesn't help most Republicans/conservatives that most Americans took advantage of the $8000 tax credit on purchasing a new house last year. Certainly helped the real estate market. Which begs the question: Would you, as a real estate agent vote for the Democrat giving you more business? Or the Republican, who believes the goverment shouldn't be in the business of promoting good work ethics and policy?

Cat tries to revive buddy hit by a car

Nithern says...

You may all joke, but to me, I was moved by this action of companionship. Nothing spoke of the sadness the white cat had for their friend, as was shown there. Trying anything and everything to revive the tuxedo cat.

Wouldn't you want someone that goes exceptional distances, when your in pain, suffering, or dying?

Rachel Maddow: Racist Roots of Arizona Law

Nithern says...

In Arizona, one can now be stopped, and forced to prove their innocence to a law enforcement offical.....unless they are white. Because if they are white, then its assumed they are in the country legally.

Yeah, I see this law not lasting very long. It fails on two seperate laws at the federal level:

A) The 4th Amendment against illegal search and seizure. An officer must show the burdern of evidence that a Latino-American is NOT a US Citizen, BEFORE, the Latino-American has to prove their innocence of the charge. A person is INNOCENT, until proven guilty. I would have thought those conservatives would have studied the US Constitution better then that.

B) The 1964 American Civil Liberity Act, Title 7. That's the one that talks about what you CAN'T discriminate over: like one's race.

Finally, I'm abit amused the Tea Baggers aren't complaining about the waste of money. After all, this and the 'birthers' law will get struck down in courts (that one, for failing over the 1st Amendment). Just think, of the amount of money it takes to move a bill from concept to being voted on in both the House and Senate of Arizona. Then it has to be signed in to law by the Govenor. After that, it has to be defended in EVERY court case. So yes, where are the Tea Bagggers bemoaning goverment waste? Hypocrits!

The birther bill fails, in that, it just takes one Arizonian Democrat to say "I would like this person's name on the ballot, as I believe based on the information, he/she is a US Citizen".

Bill Maher Becomes A Teabagger To Speak Their Language

Nithern says...

To lower the deficit really falls in to one of three choices. None of them are good or easy; or otherwise, that choice would have been enacted long ago and the issue of a deficit wouldn't have come up.

A) Cut spending of the federal budget.

To really cut the deficit down, one has to state how fast it has to be cut down. That will largely dictate how much spending has to decrease. Tea Baggers/Republicans want it immediately, and Democrats would like it down quickly. Neither side will come to a resolution on this issue, unless they make cuts higher in the stuff they want to keep 'as is'. For the moment, Republicans have to come forward first, and they have real guts to cut their spending. Everyone knows this will not happen, whether they control goverment or not. And hence, this concept will NEVER see the light of day, let alone, a fighting chance to work.

B) Print more money by the Federal Reserve.

Yes, we print boat loads of money. This would pay of the debt REALLY fast, but the strength of the dollar to ALL world currencies would be laughable. Our economy would be literally in shambles. We would not suffer from just inflation for decades (yes, DECADES), but would suffer moments of hyper-inflation. This has also been suggested by Republicans, and I think even you can figure out this process doesnt work.

C) Raise Taxes

That's right, political suicide for any law-maker. Raising taxes, to be directly applied to the deficit, for the purpose of paying it down over a decade or so, will NEVER work. Republicans are not known for their long term financial planning (i.e. see Health Care Reform). Republican's concept of 'long term' is 3-4 years. Democrats, its about 15-30 years.

Tea baggers, want revenue to go down, which would cause spending to go down, and because of this, would cause the deficit to go down. This is 1st grader mathematics. Instead of $4 to pay a bill over, 12 years, on something that costs, $48; Tea Baggers want to pay $1 over 5 years, to pay $48. Why do you think liberals are just amazed at the lack of education displayed in Tea Baggers, and Republicans at large these days?

Compilation of vehicle crashes at Chinese University campus.

Nithern says...

Seems they understand how to make cars and bicycles, but not the rules governing how they handle. Here in my state in the USA, after the third accident, SOMETHING, would be done. Short term would be to place traffic cops and signs. Long term, paint the roads, add stop lights, and more signs informing motorists of the type of intersection ahead.

Obama on Protesters: They Should Thank Me For Cutting Taxes!

Nithern says...

I rather have Obama as President then Bush. How many times did Bush screw up words, sentences, and concepts, trying to make a point? If he couldn't get his own stuff straight, why should anyone take him serious on concepts that effect the nation?

Yes, 47%, due to tax cuts, provisions, and other legel code, allowed Americans to NOT have to pay a single dollar to the IRS. In fact, GE (General Electric) announced, after over 7000 local, county, state and federal filings, it will not be paying a penny in taxes. This is, the same company that filed $10.8 billion in profits for 2009. So, how is this possible? GE knows how to file taxes, and those earnings were made OUTSIDE the USA (to which it did make the proper accounting and taxes).

Someone like WP, you will simply have to understand, doesn't get it. This person has contradicted themselves in the past. Said things both not correct, nor justified with facts one could look up (from a neutral source). WP has waged wars of disinformation, taking things out of context, and 'liberally' glossing over details that would have infact, destroyed his arguements. Its kind of like beating a dead horse. To WP, he/she/it gets tons of fun out of it, while the rest of us go off to play a game of chess or something...

You can argue with him/her/it if you wish, but this person will NEVER conscede defeat, NOR, admit that you make valid and justified arguements. He insults and threatens at an alarming rate. He rails others, that they have to be held absolutely accountable, while keeping himself/herself/itself from any degree of accountability.

In essence, he/she/it, is Republican.

For example, ask WP to publish a list of CREDIBLE, economists, who disagree with how the economy has shown signs of turning around. Have him explain which factors are both leading and trailing indicators of the economy status and health. While doing this, have him state WHERE the deficit has grown from. Have him provide the full accounting of events, from a neutral source (read: non-right wing site). Yes, he will not provide this information, because his arguements really dont have much concrete ground to stand on.
