Hotness algorithm
All else being equal, do extra views reduce the hotness of something (by reducing the votes/views ratio)?
Could returning to view a video again after you've already viewed and voted on it actually count against it?

I'm just being a smart ass, I have no idea how it actually works. Let's try this.. oooohhh, @lucky760?
We should also have @kronosposeidon weigh in on this.
Only unique (first time) views from logged in members count toward the votes/views ratio.
We should also have @LadyDeath and @Raigen weigh in on this.
I have no idea how SiftBot designed the hotness algorithm. As far as I can tell it's based solely on which direction the wind is blowing in Antarctica.
If I had to make a guess into the same antarctic wind here, I'd say that the "Hotness" of a video must lie in the time in which it was published relative to how many views/votes it has.
I just looked over the "Hotness" videos on the front page, and that's what I got from it.
I also wholly agree with Mr. Burdturgler on his assertion with my addition in parentheses:
"Only unique (first time) views from logged in members (should) count toward the votes/views ratio."
Hotness....how fucking cliché without ever having been-May we have some whipped cream on our whipped cream please? And more buttons...space monkeys had 3 of em, we're capable of navigating our way around the joystick of an F-18 because we have seen fighter pilot films!!

I asked basically this same question a long time ago and that was the answer I got. Check it out.
"...When a specific logged in user views a video for the first time, this is called a "unique view." The votes:views ratio is determined by unique views. ..."
^That discussion was in regards to the votes-to-views ratio used in Upcoming, not the front page hotness algorithm. But generally speaking, it wouldn't make sense for any type of rating/ranking to include non-member views because someone could just reload the page over and over and over to screw with the system.
So votes/views ratio is not a factor in the hotness algorithm?
Assuming it does factor in, is it still true that only unique views count?
It's not just about non-member views, it's about multiple views from the same member.
I wonder if we need @benjee and @michie to also weigh in on this?
