Description field for videos?
So I was chatting with Farhad, and we started talking about how it would be nice to have a dedicated field for the submitter to provide a description or informative post of the video being submitted, something that could be displayed side-by-side with the video, rather than being placed in the comment thread. I feel like this would be helpful to allow users to draw interest, or include context like links to related news stories or wikipedia articles, or maybe just a lead-in comment to get conversation started off.

Perhaps just a field on the submit page to easily contribute the first comment without additional clicking. Wouldn't require any major changes to the site, but would provide essentially what you are suggesting. As far as the front page goes, I think the tags work just fine, if I want more info, I'll click on it.
For an example where this would be fitting is this sift
Comment hidden because you are ignoring dag. (show it anyway)
That's a good idea. We could make it as a "poster comment" colour it differently and make it searchable.
Reminds me of the earlier discussion to make an excerpt from the first comment visible without loading the video; perhaps at the option of the poster (so you could optionally honour the first comment - presumably written by you, as the description).
Or, if it's not more complciated than that, the poster could flag any comment as the "description" comment; if written by a second party you could lock it down to prevent abuse, or just replace it by flagging a new "description" comment if it were changed.
It has been done since.
