little green laser pops a bunch of balloons

pho3n1xsays...

it's probably not viral... i mean, the coke/mentos thing isn't viral, and that features 2 brand products every single time.

i highly doubt it's viral, it's just people saying, "look what i can do." with lasers.

these are $200-250 lasers and are available at almost any geek site, and probably even radio shack.

Alright! These lasers were first developed as a non leathal means to subduing hostage takers, or violent criminals! Future weapons did a peice on these green lasers, and it was surprisingly effective, the guy pointed that thing in the general vecinity of the bad guy, and that guy fell on the ground, and was later reported to have an attack of the vomits. Not to mention the hostage was also hit with the laser... but shes still alive. THis however was all for show on the futureweapons.

Intense little laser eh? Brings new meaning to "You could put your eye out with that."

Lasers don't follow the inverse square law because they produce a narrow beam of light. The inverse square law applies to light sources that emit in every direction. The laser intensity will depend on the beam width at any given point, and for the distances in this video variation in beam width would be negligable. The different popping times are more likely a result of variations in the rubber of the balloons and where the laser hits the balloons etc. You'll find that the popping times didn't increase with distance they were actually pretty random.

Hmm didnt seem so, seemed obvious that the farther they were, the longer they took. The collimation/focus of the laser is not perfect and makes a difference (for this type of application) over mere feet. Also, the scattering effects of the opium smoke in the room would be dramatically more for the farthest baloon than the nearest.
