thecosmicshamesays...In the interest of full "self-link" disclosure, I should mention that farhad uploaded this on youtube and showed it to me the last time I posted something from TED. He's iffy about the self-link rules but I think its ok, he's not trying to promote it or anything and its a wicked cool video.
choggiesays.......yeah i'd thought i'd seen it...
winkler1says...I know one of the guys in the basketball vid
This seems edited in a jumpy way. The full vid is here.
deputydogsays...Nice vid Farhad
gorillamansays...I saw the same thing a while ago with yellow shirts and a bumble-bee suit; it's a really cool effect. This looks like an interesting talk, I'll have to check out the website.
Quboidsays...How the hell did I miss that??! I've seen this video before, for God's sake, I still missed it! I've never seen this longer version with the lecture, interesting stuff.
Oh BTW, Katie Melua will have my babies. She was brought up in a city just about 60 miles from here so we're practically married already.
deathcowsays...killer vid
conansays...i love the ending.
maudlinsays...Great video! I went to ted.com and subscribed to their podcasts, and my iTunes is now crowded with more geeky goodness.
rembarsays...Saw the gorilla clip a while ago in neurobio class or something of the sort, but I was under the impression all that material was copyrighted so I didn't figure on posting here. So farhad, do you work with/on visual perception or cognition, or did you just upload the vid?
And possibly one of the best endings to a lecture, EVER.
Deanosays...Wow, I didn't see it! Amazing stuff.
wildmanBillsays...I saw the ape, it made me lose count but I saw the ape. The recut song was very clever.
Farhad2000says...When the hell was this posted here? And why am I the last one to notice?
No I do not work in the field of visual preconception and cognition, I have seen this effect in a elective psychology class and when I came across the TED Talk I thought I should propagate good knowledge to the masses, because frankly TED Talks are not promoted on the internet well enough in my opinion. I edited the original much longer talk to a more bite sized YouTube cut. Clearly it wasn't that good as Winkler1 noticed it was jumpy...
pass.the.grog.says...cool.
mauz15says...I saw the same thing on Discovery the other day on a program about vision. I Did notice it the first time, but at the end of the program the guy said that he had been tricking us (the viewers) the whole Time; I did not believe him at first but then he started to fast forward the entire program and told us to focus in the background. The Gorilla appeared like 8 times!
siftbotsays...Tags changed from "perceptual blindness, ted, interesting" to "perceptual blindness, interesting, count" by gold star member lucky760.
Farhad2000says...*discard
siftbotsays...Discarding this video (discard called by gold star member farhad2000)
rembarsays...Fuck Youtube and all the DCMA ass-bandits who had a hand in taking this video down. An intelligent, witty, well-produced and -edited video that encourages its viewers to take a moment and use their brains for once, and you genital-monglers trash it for the sake of some fucking petty copyright law, because maybe then you can clink a few coppers more into your pools of cash? What has our society come to? For fucking shame.
loorissays...i second rembar
