Zero Punctuation: The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim

This week, FUS RO DAH!

i torrented it... everything went smooth but it glitched in the beginning so there was no horse/carts/guards, and you could never get past the first scene. i have a feeling paying the full price wasnt worth it then 'n now

I bought it on release and I've been lucky enough not to suffer more than the occasional crash and some minor weirdness. And while there was a lot of things going wrong in the game, I think it must be difficult to cover a game of this size with only a week or so of playtime and a five minute review, he could have easily spent all that time praising it or condemning it, but he took the middle road instead.
And maybe we wouldn't be so eager to come out with a child killing mod if they didn't make practically every kid in Skyrim / New Vegas / Washington DC such obnoxious little twats. I swear they must all know subconsciously that I can't do shit to them and act accordingly.

I'm going to take a wild guess here and say the glitch was possibly caused *because* you torrented it. I've not heard anyone have this glitch other than you. Other than a few spinning dragons and the somewhat glitchy menu system its been bug free (I'm on PC).

It's a known issue that was resolved with a patch. Several people had this problem not just folks who pirated it from what I understand. I know a couple people where I work that had this issue with a legit copy and it happened on the xbox version as well as PC from what I read.

This game currently owns all my free time. My jaw drops at some of the situations I get into, we're talking some seriously thought out quests. Polished is the norm and the bugs I've found are not even close to game breakers. (pc) The only issue I have is, (same as Yahtzee's) the fact that healing/stamina potions and a good weap are all you really need. At level 25 now and can clear mostly any dungeon I find with too much ease. Gonna go full cater next and see how that plays though.

I'm 28 hours in and have hardly done anything with the main quest line... like many have said, the vast amount of random shit you can do is quite astounding as is the scenery. Some have complained that it is a bit monotone, but frankly, I love mountains and snow so I feel like it is a really beautiful game. The weather effects are also some of the most amazing ones I've seen in a game ever. The way mountains can look misty or wind can froth up some standing snow is just beautiful.

As for the main quest line, it is a bit cliched, but as so many reviewers have pointed out, it is almost as if the main plot is secondary to the world itself.

Penny Arcade's comic on the subject of dragons v. giants was also really funny... I still don't get how you can kill a dragon at level 4, but a giant will 1 shot you and literally put your corpse in orbit... kinda makes me wish I was giant-borne and not dragon-borne.

Have you tried Bethesda Customer Service? I'm sure they'd LOVE to help you.

Naw im kinda over it... everyone was all hyped about it and i almost fell for it, so i decided to see how i would feel with it close at hand.

yea you can patch the torrent version to get it to work but i realized that if i got into the game, purchase or not, id inevitably be disappointed because single player games are kind of retarded. glad i remembered why i never played any of the other elder scrolls.

if it were worth it id buy it, dont be jealous that you did and it sucks.

Yup, you are quite the connoisseur...

The game is amazing. Yes it has some bugs, and some vicious exploits you can reach without even trying, and some serious balance issues but frankly it isn't even close to as buggy and glitchy and exploitable as Oblivion was upon release.

The first patch is out but that breaks as much as it fixes (typical Bethesda really). Once the mod tools hit the community would patch the game far better than Bethesda ever could. Even so, it is WELL worth that $60!

And yea from Yatzee this is glowing praise.

oh man,
how awesome to find out im not the only one sucked into this game.
my arena team on wow are sooo pissed at me right now due to skyrim.
i have been addicted to TES series since morrowind.
yahtzee called it correct.
its a great game with a ton of bugs and glitches but who cares?not one of them is a deal breaker.
lvl 48 in full daedric armor with a few daedric artifacts (spellbreaker is $$$) but even on the hardest setting im kicking the crap out of pretty much everything (unless i run into a few arch casters..bastards).
time to make a new toon.

You can change the difficulty mid-game. I bumped it from medium to the next highest setting (and there's one more) after I felt like I was cruising too easily. Now there are plenty of situations where I have to reload and think it through before charging that master conjurer.

*rolls eyes at ancient fanboy arguments*

"The 500000 glitches are nowhere near game breaking!!!!"
"It's not as buggy as this other game!!!!"

We get the game quality we deserve, gentlemen. Stop settling for less. The game is fucking riddled with bugs, and most of them reek of lazyness. Little things that they MUST have seen and just thought "ah fuck it, they'll eat any old shit up"

Great game otherwise, but it DOES matter.

I'm super late to the party, but I totally agree about all the useless potions and ridiculous economy. Other than health potions and the occasional stamina, they're completely pointless. Who wants to fuck around with their inventory to use one of the other 1,324 potions to offer a slight amount of niche resistance or some shit?

I have tons of crap and money, but vendors don't have enough money to buy all the crap I want to sell, and don't have anything that I'm the least bit interested in buying (save for the aforementioned health potions). They all have inferior weapons and armor, and why the hell would I be interested in that??

Other than those nitpicks... and that I never bother/think to use my shouts... and that I can generally crush anything except for the occasional very-hard circumstance... it's a very good game, and I'm having a blast. I figure I've sunk 50+ hours into it and I'm sure I'm not half-way through the main story.
