song77says...can print a gun out of metal but use the cheapest method to tests it, good to see they had faith in their engineering too
eric3579says...Well it will only set you back about $850,000 to get the printer so...

chicchoreasays......would be an M1911....
chingalerasays...This is a proof-of-concept step with the technology as far as guns go, look to the near future for more wild and crazy DIY with much more than weaponry-Once they are able to provide ultra-durable raw materials (nano-esters, poly carbonate crystals, etc.) for the sludge they feed these printers the game will change overnight.

blankfistsays...The first VCR was $50,000.

eric3579says...The first automobile was $850 but i get what you're saying. Seems like this was coming down the pipe eventually. Will be interesting to see how it all unfolds.
The first VCR was $50,000.

The first prostitute was glorious.
blankfistsays...Hijack away! Conversations take turns, for better or worse. I never understood this rule of hijacking threads.

schlubjokingly says...Yeehaw.. america!
Paybacksays...An excellent gun. The design is over 100 years old and still going strong.
Also, why get in shit over copyright using a Glock or Beretta?
...would be an M1911....
Troutsays...But can you 3D print the ammo?
chicchoreasays......WE HAVE A WINNER ! ! !
How long before ammunition is made unavailable ala supply of material or finished product, cost, or regulation. The last major US lead smelter is closing.
By the time this technology is widely affordable I hope phaser plans are available.
But can you 3D print the ammo?
JustSayingsays...A hungry monkey is glorious to you? You have weird standards, man.
However, once you can print reliable handguns, it shouldn't be too hard to print reliable parts for the ammunition (bullet, casing). The main question would be how those bullets would behave on impact, how useful they are against people.
The first prostitute was glorious.
ryanbennittsays...Evolution prefers cautious engineers to ones with faith their invention won't kill them.
