Woman Powered Copter is a Hell of a lot Bigger than Expected

Apparently there is this 30 year old competition to make a human powered helicopter. No one has won yet.

I don't know if these guys are going to be particularly successful, but I commend them for dreaming big and building a quadroter helicopter with four 42 foot blades. Go big or go home!

Moving this video to shveddy's personal queue. It failed to receive enough votes to get sifted up to the front page within 2 days.

That's an amazing endeavor. In the end, they achieved flight, but only for about 4 seconds at a height of <1 ft. Still, pretty incredible. In a subsequent flight, the craft stayed "aloft" for 11.4 seconds.

They should think differently and make a Human powered Generator to power an electric engine powering rotors via gears. Gears on everything.
