Why Every New Macbook Needs a Different Goddamn Charger

We can make a computer fit in an envelope, but I guess we’re still working out the kinks on the charger.

It's not just changing the charger, that's usb-c which is also the video output. So if your conference rooms at work use projectors or flat screens...yay, one more video adapter to stock for those important meetings when the presenter doesn't prepare and realizes at the last moment that she connect connect.

Which means that EVERY Mcbook 2015 owner has to buy the 79$ adapter. Every. one . of. them. It is so mandatory that it should be standard accessory but no, you have to buy it separately. So add that 79$ to it's price when you consider buying one.

It is bullshit, but it's not a problem unique to Apple.

I've never owned a mac, but every goddamned Dell laptop I've used has had a subtly different charger, and they're mostly just a round plug!

As for usb-c for video, meh. People kvetched when they dropped the optical drive, the VGA port, etc. (Hell I remember people complaining on the windows side when laptops stopped having serial ports!) Technology moves forward... and Apple is known for pushing new techs at the expense of old ones.

Still can't believe they put a 480p camera on it, though.
Seriously, what is this? 2005?

Ickstersays...

I'm the only one on my dev team who is using a Windows laptop instead of a MacBook. Every time someone else needs to present, it's a scramble for a dongle, and then their WiFi drops and it takes five minutes to get reconnected.

Yeah, my ThinkPad looks like an industrial accident compared to those admittedly sexy MacBooks, but unlike those, my Windoze machine "just works (TM)."\

Sure, but with the latest Chromebook Pixel being USB-C, Google hinted that the next Nexus would also be USB-C.

USB-C is pretty cool, actually, so it doesn't bother me that much (already been from proprietary->mini USB->micro USB as far as chargers go anyway, plus custom variants of MHL ports). I'm looking forward to this all being standardised and approve of Apple going for a non-Apple proprietary port for once.

Why I use Android devices. Same f'ing Micro-USB charges every device in the house.

Comment hidden because you are ignoring dag.(show it anyway)

For me it's more annoying that there is only one USB port which doubles as the power. I know Apple is pushing to to get everyone to use wireless technology - but still annoying.

The new Broadwell Macbook Pro is much more attractive to me, and twice as fast as its predecessor. http://www.computerworld.com/article/2900330/holy-smoke-the-new-macbook-literally-is-twice-as-fast.html

Oh, and Sift of the week.
