antsays...A public domain video of John Hinckley, Jr. attempting to assassinate U.S. President Ronald Reagan on March 30, 1981.
Wumpussays...To be accurate, President Reagen wasn't assassinated.
Farhad2000says...It was cuban pigeons going "coo coo"
fozi999says...That was so disorganised, if I was in such a high profile position I would ensure there was professional medical assistance with me at all times.
silvercordsays...That was disturbing. The man who had been shot in the head was James Brady. His wife pushed through the Brady Bill on handgun control due to this incident.
Two other men were shot, neither fatally, and Reagan was nearly killed by a ricochet.
Another sad and tragic day in the life. "I read the news today, oh boy . . ."
tomharpelsays...It all happened so quickly. How could they even begin to get a fix on where or who the shooter might be, or where the shots were coming from? Total chaos.
theo47says...Another Bill Hicks quote:
Kennedy...murdered.
Gandhi...murdered.
Reagan...wounded.
choggiesays......they were all wounded, one not mortally-No middle name recognition for a president wounder....Public pressure resulting from the Hinckley verdict spurred Congress and most states into enacting major reforms of laws governing the use of the insanity defense....
...The Hinckley trial highlights the difficulty of a system that forces jurors to label a defendant either "sane" or "insane" when the defendant may in fact be close to the middle on a spectrum ranging from Star Trek's Mr. Spock to the person who strangles his wife thinking that he's squeezing a grapefruit. Not to mention the reactionary Brady bill,....no more streetsweepers!

rembarsays.......attempt.
mlxsays...Great historical video, but please change the title.
siftbotsays...Tags changed from "president, ronald, regan, assassination" to "president, ronald, regan, shooting" by gold star member therealblankman.

Farhad2000says...I don't think you can typify Kennedy's gaping head shot as a flesh wound...
joedirtsays...ant, I guess you haven't taken the hints... CHANGE THE TITLE TO SAY "attempt".
Raw Video Clip of President Reagan Assasination Attempt
It is disturbing to see you re-writing history as him having been knocked off.
antsays...I had no room in the title to put "attempt". I think I will remove Ronald part.
antsays...farhad2000: It must had been Pigeon user leading the group?
antsays...joedirt: I just got here and didn't have subscription to my post for e-mail notifications. Also, I don't check VS 24/7. Sorry.
Nebosukesays...As far as I can tell from the video, Reagan was gone not more than 5 seconds after the shooting. Protecting the President was very organized. But getting the wounded and the shooter out of there took time.
How do you like the Secret Service agent with the Uzi?
Kruposays...The Uzi thing was cool - so if I understand this correctly, the shooter was the guy by the wall who was tackled by like a dozen cops, about 20 seconds in, right?
Wild video.
Kruposays...Also, is it just me or does cosmicshame's name appear 'blank' on this page?
joedirtsays...His name appears "white" as in white as the driven snowy webpage background. I guess that's what the charter member thing can do for you.
Kruposays...Ctrl-A certainly proves it; I thought we had some colour restrictions to avoid little glitches like that, no?
phelixiansays...Scary how many guns were out so quickly.... Damn.
messengersays...It's all those guns in the hands of well-trained people that make me feel safe. It's the guns in the hands of Hinckleys that scare me.
swampgirlsays...This was one of those "where were you when it happened" days.
