raviolisays...Canadian Forces does too!
Shepppardsays...I actually have to say, although I may be slightly bias, I think my favourite is the Canadian recruitment ad, followed very closely by the American ad, then the Swedish one.
Reasons being, the Canadian ad shows both sides, some of what happens on operations (the hostages, the boat etc.) aswell as training and run-of-the mill things.
The American add is too.. soft. It makes the military look very glamerous, all of the things seem to be shot within a training ground. (Rope swings, wall climbing, dress uniforms, etc.)
And the Swedish one just seems.. too gritty. Comparing meaningless/fun everyday things (fireworks) to horrible tradgedies.. It gets the point across, but not in a truly effective way.
gwiz665says...War is hell. It's like swimming in a septic tank; sure, you get exercise, but at WHAT COST!?
The Swedish was good, but could be far more gritty. The US one was downright deceitful.
alizarinsays...It really pisses me off when the US armed forces puts ads that imply battle is like a game next to cartoons and inside stuff like gaming clients like Steam. Somebody's going to hell for that one.
rich_magnetsays...Not to critique the advertisements nor the military agenda of either nation (though such critiques are warranted), it's possibly of merit to note that participation in the US military is purely voluntary, whereas the Swedish Defense Forces has traditionally (until 2010) been based on conscription.

true, in Sweden they have so far always advertised for specific things, like Nordic battle group, overseas service or officer recruitment, all of these requires you to already have completed your basic military service.
Whereas in the US(and Canada), the ads are made to get people to enter military life for the first time, thus all the honor, pride, army of one, be all you can be, and all those platitudes.
But all i ever did with any meaning in my service was to stand in front of Stockholm's castle for six days with a fully loaded assault rifle shouting at people not to pee on the fountains, i mean, how much honor and pride is in all of that.
Fletchsays...Fantasy versus Reality.
garmachisays...Having served, I can honestly say that our recruiting videos contain a certain amount of *lies.
siftbotsays...Adding video to channels (Lies) - requested by garmachi.

rottenseedsays...Well it's easy to dissuade people from joining a military you never use. It's hard to persuade people to join a military that is overused.
