Tommy Emmanuel playing guitar how it should be done

even if you don't play guitar you'll most likely dig this just because of the sheer musicianship and showmanship
and if you DO play guitar well... as scar said, "be prepared"

aww sad. i wanna make it to the front page. i tried posting a video with real music in it once and it didn't make it by one vote. now this one is languishing already. i blame you captainplanet... or is your name ted turner...?

I agree with some others. He's amazingly gifted, but it doesn't really draw me in. And while I can't play like this, I've known a number of studio guitarists who can play similar riffs. I'd like to see more of what he can do, though.

A wise man once said music is about the space between the notes as much as the notes themselves.

favorite guitarists?

If I had to pick one, probably Jerry Garcia, but the list of great guitarists I love to hear is way too long for this little box.

Tommy Emmanuel's a great master who's not just technically brilliant but is great at entertaining the audience. And being him, this was probbabbly improvised as he went along...a lot of people can play difficult riffs and strokes but few can arrange and entertain like Tommy has done throughout his career both in a band and not.

MINKsays...

his amazing technical skill is undeniable, his entertainment value is subjective.

I would compare him to a typist who is very fast and accurate but hasn't really got anything to type other than "i'm a great typist!"

I don't mean to sound so harsh though, i mean he is amazing. It's just i couldn't be arsed to watch it all. hence my decision not to vote up or down.

MINK, jonny, nazdorvia, deathcow, all hit it-to musicians, this guy lacks the quality that developing a sound of one's own produces, but plays the manic, wreckless noodling card off, quite well....like everyone fawning over a guy like buckethead, or Stanley Jordan who can make dreamy sounds, and has an initial presence appeal, but the technical grace can only carry you so far.

Cobain? His tortured, fast-burning flame of soul, wash a white-washed cry for help, and for me, that over-shadows any potential for greatness of merit....just look at the ilk that treat Kurt like a god-buncha manic-depression candidates, coffee addicted and screaming for help in their own way, 20-somethings, with a fried internal navigation system....

another one really gets me pissed-Dave Matthews and his College Cult Crooning, ....that man's shit, runs together like a Jackson Pollock mural-and the kids who worship him wouldn't know good music if it collided with their flavor-of-the-week, world views.....

Doc Watson, Django Reinhardt, Merle Travis-
Jeff Beck, Zappa, Ronnie Montrose, yes, the Winter Bros., hell....Angus Young....whaddya know, most of these guys are either still alive, or lived long lives with smiles on their faces...not needles in their arms, or booze in their livvers.....
